    Oh my god, after 30 mins of debating my life because I couldn’t get the filter to work and the instructions were unclear I turned to TH-cam only to find out you need to fill it with water. Thank you 🙏🏻 it’s finally working

      Yea most of the hang on backs you have to add water. Here is the problem with them. During a power outage ( if your not home) it will sit there trying to fill up. Most times it wont after about 4 hours of this the motor will usually burn out...

    For the past three months I had a 9 gal tank that kept getting dirty quickly, the filter was also super loud so I assumed it was broken. Today I got a new 20 gal (to fix the problem) and the loud noise returned! It NEVER states anywhere to add water in both of these instructions..thanks to this video I realized you need to put water in the filtration system. wow, I feel dumb..thank you so, so much. I'm so happy there is no longer any noise :)

    Thank you for sharing. I changed my filter and couldn’t remember which way the bio cartridge should go.
    I would just like to make a couple suggestions…. 1st the filter is recommended to be rinsed before use to get any carbon dust off and 2nd the aquarium water should be used to fill the filter. To my understanding, If you use regular tap water you will be putting your fish at risk for chlorine and any other harmful elements in the water.
    Thank you for taking the time to share this.

    ‼️ IMPORTANT‼️ One thing id say is DO NOT change your filter like TopFin says. The brown “gunk” on the filter is ESSENTIAL bacteria that converts the toxic ammonia from fish pee to nitrates. Every time you change the filter, you’re restarting the bacteria colony. Unless the filter is physically broken, or clogged to the point that it isn’t flowing, DO NOT change it!! Enjoy!

    • @muffmcgruff8572
      @muffmcgruff8572 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, Sean! Thank you for adding this comment. I JUST changed my filter. I saw the brown “gunk” and definitely thought I was doing my fish justice by changing it. That being the reason, and because the blue/red indicator was red. Of course, the Top Fin instructions says to change it when red. Since reading your comment, I won’t do that again! My question for you would be, since the brown gunk is an essential bacteria, how often would you say to change the filter?

    Decent video. A couple of tips (some already mentioned).
    1) Rinse the filter with water for about 15-30 seconds before use to remove dust (not harmful to fish, but it could make your water more cloudy).
    2) The "suction tube" is extendable so extend it so it is quite close to the bottom, ~1 inch so it can suck up more stuff.
    3) If you have a lid for your tank and plan to use it, make sure there is a large enough "cut-out" for the filter (can probably modify if needed) and position the filter in the tank accordingly (i.e., with regard to the cut-out location in the tank lid).
    4) Add water already in the tank to the filter to start it/purge it instead of new/tap water.
    5) If the filter does not seem to be working, make sure the water level is almost to level of the discharge point of the filter (e.g., within 1") and that the suction tube is in the "open" position. If that doesn't work, the filter could be clogged by something. Turn off/unplug the filter, remove it, take it apart (very easy to do) and inspect for any obstructions, especially in the intake tube. Reatach the parts, fill/purge with tank water and restart the filter.
    6) Unless your filter cartridge is ridiculously dirty/gunky after only one month, you can actually use the filters multiple times, at least twice (i.e., for two months instead of one). Just pull out the filter and rinse thoroughly with tap water until the "rinse" water is realtively clear/clean then replace the filter.
    7) Also recommended to do a thorough cleaning of the entire filter system (ref. #5 above) every few months or as needed since larger particles can get stuck in the intake tube and hinder the filter's efficiency.
    Take care.

      See if the pipe is extended all the way, try adding more water, place cardboard or something soft underneath the aquarium, stick something soft behind the filter in the area where it’s touching the aquarium on the outside. It is a noisy filter, but try the suggestions and see if it works.

    I just got this filter and converted it into a multi-media hub with 5 inch 50w heater tucked in the back left for my sw 5 gallon reef tank. Media is black foam on bottom, then filter cotton, then fluval biomax ceramics. I chucked the included media, and a tight fit. Not sure if flow is affected but i may upgrade to bigger impeller if possible and putting in a wavemaker. Extremely quiet, noiseless filter.

    • @chilledreviewguy3584
      @chilledreviewguy3584  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The part that dips into the the tank - the pipe extends out more, in case that was the issue, it has to be submerged in water . May be fill tank with little more water to enhance the flow(as recommended for your tank). Try pouring water in filter to see if the water falls out freely to check it's flow and to see if there is no obstruction. If it still doesn't work, there is always a chance the motor could be faulty, or the power supply not sufficient in the plug point or the cartridge has some obstruction inside hindering the flow. Hope this helps.

      By tubing, do you mean like a vacuum cleaning tube for fish tanks, because that is handy when it comes to getting the fish poops out and changing water. This package didn’t come with any tubing. We had to buy the vacuum cleaner tubing separately. Keep it if you got it, it makes getting water out easy for changing water .

      Try wetting the filter cartridge under running water or soaking it in, water should be able to go through the filter without obstruction, increase the water level in the tank, the pipe extends a little further so see if it’s extended, pour water in the filter and then switch it on and keep it on high. Still if it doesn’t work, it could be a faulty filter.

      This happened to us too, We figured out that some fishes poop more than the others, so we vacuum the poop regularly, weekly water change is recommended, my wife also washed the filter thing ( the white filter cartridge) under running water, although I don’t know if that’s recommended. Also check on your fishes to see if any of them are sick. There are salt remedies on TH-cam for healing fishes ( from veterinarians). Or if there are way too many fishes in the tank. This is the best advice I could give you. Hope it helps.

      The pipe extends more, see if that's extended, fill a little bit more water, add water into filter before switching on, wash the cartridge to ease the flow through it , try putting a padding underneath the aquarium if possible and see if that helps. Honestly, we keep ours away from the main room because the noise does get to you eventually. It is a noisy filter.

      See if the pipe that goes in the water is extended, pour water in the filter till it falls out, soak the cartridge before putting it in , increase water level in aquarium. If it's working but still making the noise, then that's probably the equipment itself. We found it to be a bit on the noisier end as well. So we placed our aquarium away from our sleeping area. Hope this helps.

      The mechanism seems to be the same, try soaking the cartridge in water and then putting it in, check the level of water and see if the pipe extends all the way in , try a different power outlet, add a little more water in and then switch it on. If it still doesn’t work, you might have a faulty piece, if you have the receipt, try getting it replaced with a new one or get the store employee to check it for you. Hope these suggestions help.

      Once the filter is off, the cartridge starts drying out a bit , and water also starts getting hazy with the fish droppings. When we have to switch it off to clean tank, my wife washes the cartridge in plain water before putting it back in the filter (It’s not recommended, but it’s just something we do ).

    Mine is kinda loud anyone know how to fix it

    • @chilledreviewguy3584

      Try increasing water level a bit, may be see if it’s touching on a wall or something that might be increasing vibration sounds. The pipe extends all the way down, so , may be see if that’s fully extended. Hope this helps.😊

    Aren’t you supposed to wait 25 hours before allowing your fish inside the tank it’s toxic for the first 24 hrs is what pets smart told me

    • @chilledreviewguy3584
      @chilledreviewguy3584  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We prepared the tank first and then put the fishes in one day after. Filter was put in a day after that. But yes, ideally you have to prepare the tank with the ph and stress coaters and filter and introduce the fish after a day.

      No you actually have to wait until your tank cycles. Then you can put your fish in the tank. Those people at petsmart do not know what they are talking about at all.

    Could you just take a couple of runs before you turn on the camera? Make points on what you want to say. It doesn’t seem like you even have an aquarium. I appreciate the effort, because it was more than the picture shows on Amazon. Really you could do so much more.
