Epee fencers ALWAYS FORGET about this ATTACK!

  • One of the least discussed attacks in epee is an attack into opponents recovery.
Consider provoking your opponent to make an attack and your work hard to get out just enough not to get hit. Consequently, as opponent will fall short, you shall change directions and attack into their recovery.
This works, because when opponents attacks, they have to transfer a lot of weight forwards. And in order for them recover they now how to transfer weight back. This weight transfer is slow and if you time it right you will be on-target quicker!
    Good Luck!

Nice format for a video lesson: great lesson footage, very helpful to have the text screen.
Helps me to articulate what seems so characteristic of mid-high level epee: false attack draws a counter-lunge and creates opportunity for a second intention _attack into the recovery_ that you describe. Bing-bing-beep.

Hi Tim... I must admit I was distracted by the targets behind you with arm and leg.. can you show us the design and pictures of it (video of someone using I guess) as it looks better than the crappy ones I have made...lol
bloody left handed french grip epeeists!! lol.... they keep righties on their toes!!!
do you know if there is a good video explaining the benefits of pommeling with an epee french grip? and the tactics to use against a person fencing while pommeling? I tried to find one ages ago to explain to some people that fencing with french grip is actually a good thing and tactic and not to think it a bad thing at all!!!
I haven't fenced hard competitively in years and at a recent Australian national events veteran epee I was seated about last going into the direct elimination and drew one of the top fencers... but I noticed (well he was tall!!! lol) that he was fencing with a french grip and pommeling.... I had ok point work (I used to be quite good at it but... well out of practice) .. so a tactic I was taught and have used successfully against a french grip and/or pommeller is to attack the blade aggressively and close distance...
it worked and beat him actually quite well - people were shocked and remarking taht he had often won the event and how did I a lowly nobody do that !!??? (how soon people forget I was a good fencer but that was 20 years ago...lol not many know me now... and I have a bum leg so my footwork is really really pathetic [if I say so myself...lol]).
It was a good feeling to be able to pull one off again after so many years...
anyway so if you could do one of pommelling that would be interesting to see....
and another attack and forward recovery launching into a lunge again.... and again... pushing opponent back and back and to lose their footing....
and of course the targets ion the club as they look pretty good.... nice venue by the way....

Hi Albert! Thank you so much for such wonderful comments! I am sorry that I do not respond right away or post as often, but we do our best. Anyhow, we will make sure to post some clips of our fencing dummies, if it can be helpful then we will gladly do it!
....Never too late to get back on the strip, over the years i have seen many people come out of the woodworks with solid fencing experience and after 20-40 years of not fencing!
Thank you very much for all the suggestions, we will try to make them into a reality!
      Tim & Yarik

    i need tips about parrying.
When I engaged and successfully parried and got his blade and when i do my attack my arm is too stiff and misses my opponent. My coach told me i need to rely on my parry’s cuz i only do it for blocking. I started with french grip but my sword broke in half so i changed to pistol.

The sleeve is indeed self-made out of thick cows skin. It's nearly indestructible. Used to go through 2-3 sleeves per year before this one
