I’m also an ISTP and i’m obsessed with this documentary called Minimalism “a documentary about the important things”. It truly adds another layer of clarity to how i see targeted ads, objects in general, and compulsive spending. Did you know the average home has over 300,000 things? The documentary’s all about focusing on what really matters and such, honestly I can only think of ISTP’s to enjoy this because we’re so anti-bullshit

As an ISTP, I can say that my personality repels certain types of personalities due to my “silent skeptic” traits. Bullshitters and narcissists avoid me like the plague and have told others in the group that “she doesn’t like me” when in fact I’ve never said anything to them.

    • @Jebusbach223
      @Jebusbach223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

Jebusbach223 - I feel like as an ISTP woman, that my personality draws people in, but repels “normal guy” love-interests away too quickly. I think I’m too transparent, they’re not willing to get deep and intense, and I want to know everything about them. As for narcissists, I’m a freaking magnet. But I’ve learned through experience and in studying about them what to look for, and because of them, I grew tremendously.

    • @Jebusbach223
      @Jebusbach223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Pookie Loko I can relate to my personality drawing people in but I’m pretty socially selective and I keep people at a distance until I’ve screened them and figured out if I want them in my bubble. @@fedup1606 I think each type is misunderstood in some ways. Most folks who are not type aware, tend to judge others through the myopic and distorted lense of their own personality.
I am, yet another INFJ, but I thoroughly enjoy the HD 4K high resolution version of Ti that ISTPs have and their uncanny ability to calculate odds. The smart ones have an under rated intellect and have a genius for problem solving, especially concrete problems.
One weskness I have winessed in most ISTPs is communication. I attribute this to Ni with Fe. Since I am aware of their type stack, I dont hold it agaist them.

If mbti was an rpg, istp would be by far the best class to pick. High intelligence, unmatched physical prowess, adaptability and high survivability skills, not reliant on others and completely indipendent. Where other types seem to have weaknesses, the only weak point of an istp would be the fact that they prefer to stay alone and don't really care about others, so it'd be easier to rise a team to hunt them down and outnumber them. However, without another istp in said team, the whole plan would probably fail anyway

Oftentimes when I see people go around and learn so many skills at once, I would go wonder, "how many of these skills are they going to master?" This is absolutely brilliant insight. I'm writing a character who I've recently realised fits ISTP incredibly comfortably, and this explains several aspects of his personality that I'd kinda danced around, as an INTP, but didn't know how to REALLY nail down (yay professional bush dancer, opener of many doors and closer of none!). I find so many of your videos incredibly useful for this purpose; after I've really started to nail a character down, I try and see how they line up against mbti for the simple reason that a consistent character is a believable character, and your vids really get into the delicious nooks and crannies of how to build that consistency. Which is, of course, a huge part of mbti :)

Guess there is a pattern there. My INTP brain has butted heads with ENTJs in my life more often than it has for ESFJs. Might have something to do with the 3rd function. It's really important for me to do things accurately and make things polished, due to being conscious of my less-than-perfect, yet very incluential Si. So I hate it when the Si-polar ENTJs I've met, decide to sacrifice that polish for the sake of broader efficiency, like it's not even a concern to begin with. Is there a similar dynamic in your conflict with ESTJs maybe ?

Been trying to figure out which personality type I am. I've gotten INFP-T and ISFP. This time it gave me ISTP when I went to a different website and so far I relate more to this type than the others. The spontaneity and how I can be quite skeptical of anyone first before getting to know them hits home, among other things.
Ive been known to be INCREDIBLY private and quiet. In school I was quiet, observant, and looking for something to interest me enough to get involved but I never did. Finally now after many years in I'm starting to narrow it down more with the help of my brain seeming to develop more fully than it was. I have many talents (mainly stuff like the guitar, video games and I really enjoy giving massages or putting my hands to good use for others especially, even if that sounds strange).
On top of that I know chaos a little too well, which gives me insight into what peoples intentions are and how to keep myself from being pulled into something I regard as boring, bullshit or just stupid (like drama).
I can be quite arrogant outwardly, definitely seen as weird, but most of the time I'm told that people feel comfortable around me. Like they can spill all secrets to me and I usually try to listen, though if it's of stuff that doesn't hold enough for me to give advice (like relationship stuff) I usually just don't have a lot to say. But if there's something I've personally experienced then I'll use it as reference in my mind to come up with some kind of advice for them, which usually turns out quite good I think.. (I have to get to know something deeper before making judgement calls or being able to know what to do most of the time, but usually I find myself in situations I've already been in before, which helps me make a decision faster now).
I enjoy reading people or allowing them to present all that they may or may not be, so that I know how to approach them or the situation. I try to understand exactly what they mean and where they're coming from, and most of the time I take it as though I'm dumb and need it to be explained further, without realizing that it's just them having a difficult time opening up.
I also definitely have the ability to spot a liar from even the internet, let alone in person.
I tend to think most people either find me too difficult to read, or intimidating due to my cold first approach which may warm up depending on where the conversation takes us.

When I'm chatting with people, and I'm skeptical about a claim or belief, I learned to simply don't say it if it doesn't benefit either of us. For example, I know someone who is very religious, and he talked about things their religion says that he believes are absolute truth while I believe are simply stories made up by ancient people or greatly exaggerated since they were written.
I don't say I don't believe they are real because that person feels too strongly about the topic and I don't want to deal with that, I simply continue the conversation and don't ever turn it into what I personally think about it.

Okay so I've been trying to understand myself for some time now. I took the test and got istp and i think i can also relate to this type the most, like 90%. Bt some of the istp traits, i think, do not match with me. Like, I'm not a blunt person. I try to understand people and try to talk in a way that won't sound rude. Like if anyone asks me "do i look good in this dress?", I'll answer something like "yea it's okay bt you looked better in the other one." Although I'm not good at understanding other's intentions, i try my best not to hurt them.
I see ISTPs are mostly portrayed as people who do not feel obligated to follow rules bt for me, i try to find out the reasoning behind the rules, why it is necessary and why i should follow them.
But the rest of the narratives match really well with me like the logical thinking, going with the flow or problem solving....
So... Am i an istp or what?

I’m so excited for another ISTP video, Thank you Nathan! All good stuff in here. One thing though, I am also enneagram 4, and so I’ve had a lot of the same kinds of struggles that they talk about in INFX and empath groups.
A huge weakness of mine has been in dating, I’ll know a guy is probably no good for me, but the charm and love bombing appealed to my Fe, it’s a huge dopamine rush, and many times I have ignored the wisdom of my mind in order to jump into that pool of bliss, and Iater I realize it was actually a snake pit and I get to tell myself I told me so. I think I’ve done that enough times that I’m now done doing that. Being single allows me to be more in flow. I really like being single, but the biggest downside is I don’t have anybody to share experiences with, so if I go on a trip by myself, I have fun but then feel lonely at night, sigh.
Do other ISTPs have similar struggles? Or is that enneagram related? (It’s incredibly difficult to find material on ISTP type 4s). I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. You’re my favorite INTP ❤️

I can relate to feeling alone at night after having a great and fun day. Broke up with my ex in February and don‘t really want her back, but sharing my experiences with her and knowing that someone was there if needed was great.
I think we was as ISTPs can bottle up our emotions really good, but the lonely, silent times trigger our emotions to come out, because there is nothing to analyse but ourselves.
You are not alone in this :)

Well what you've described definitely isn't exclusive to a particular type in my view. I have an unconventional view when it comes to the dating situation you described since people who are 'no good' for you in certain areas (excluding obvious things like abuse of all kinds) can still be enjoyed for who they are as long as your expectations are reasonable. ~ Nathan

Luce M Actually, the path towards health for 4s is similar to that of ISTPs. One Example: the way out of a Ti-Ni loop is to get out of my head and into my body and do something, like jiu jitsu. Same for a 4, to get out of my head and ‘show up to the world,’ practice meeting people where they are in the shallow end of the pool, because most people are afraid to swim deep.
I think before you start giving advice based off your beliefs, maybe you could try studying the topics in-depth, just a thought. Thanks anyway though.

ISTP here. as an ISTP, i would say it is true that we do go indepth rather than broad base. Because once we dig, we set up systems to allow us to understand things ever more. Only when we cant find the bridge, thats when we go broad base. We are pretty straightforward and live really simply. We always find ways to attain things at easier or cheaper cost because it is easy for us to search and dig for information. The thing is, because we love systems and operations so much, alot of people tend to think we are not flexible or creative. FALSE. we can be creative and flexible as well. Just that we know the world runs in logical sense if not, during creative times, we can be really creative.. usually based on our mental calculations it is 98% right. and whereas for the 2 %, its either partial right or the person or situations does not happen in logical sense or in an irrational manner. We do not complicate things. In summary, you can call us a 3D mindmap(thats how we think as well) As we think at least 3 to 4 things at once, we are pretty quiet as our brains are in constant thinking mode. For ISTPs, we know we have to keep our mind active. even if we are lazy or do not want to move, we will play videos or audio books for us to learn.

My dad is an Istp and I'm an Entp. There is a certain clarity he has which is amazing. I will always remember his advice for me lol
"Sometimes just doing things is easier than thinking about doing the thing" really helps me when I'm overthinking, I can go fuck it I'll see what happens later.
He is also very intellectual, I thought he was an N before he took the test.

When you say it like this I don't feel you meant exactly playing like some types of people , if you allow me , I would call them snakes or scorpions, but i think being an istp myself , you meant it's like a challenge or a fun game , your competing with your analytical skills to see who wins ?

As an ISTP I'm just not bothered by how anyone sees me, especially by the intuitives. I don't need their approval.
Anyway, I haven't seen anyone mention the use of music to elicit response/emotion. I see that as a weak way to sell a product or idea- it pretty much loses any credibility at that point.
I'm female but have never felt at a disadvantage in a male dominated world. Maybe cos I haven't got a little girl voice or huge tits that make men feel like they want to dominate/protect. ( ie lose their minds). I did have a hugely manipulative ENFJ in my life for awhile, but he learned not to under estimate someone who doesn't and has never played those games. I learned a very painful lesson, as did he.
I see most men as weak for allowing their genitals and ego to make their decisions.

While I feel the whole personality stuff is barnum effect to an extreme, I can see what some people think. I will say that there's no way in hell I'm abstract and stick strictly to logic and facts but I see people looking at philosophical stuff in the same category, this leads me to believe that the system needs a 5th character for A and R characters, (abstract and rational) to sort between ideologies
