Marc has always seems like a top guy and best ref in the business (IMO). Much respect. Id love to see him on again and hear some more stories from back in the wild west days!
Love how much bisping enjoys talking about fighting himself and his career I’m all here for it !! Absolute legend and great person hope to meet him one day
What’s up, Michael? Busy from Stockton 209. Big fan ever since you stepped onto the scene ultimate fighter show I’ve been watching UFC since the pride days like your show like your podcast I could barely tell you only have one eye.lol. Keep up the good work best of luck.
People pick a few examples out of the hundreds of fights they've seen him ref so they can say he sucks. He is very good most of the time imo. They do it to Herb too, it's annoying.
Goddard is one of the best refs ever, and I appreciate his contribution He's had a bunch of mistakes over the years, and it's totally acceptable, that job is crazy hard, reacting in split seconds and he usually does a perfect job. However, it kinda irks me to hear him say he's the first to know if he made a mistake and he's hard on himself. Yet, there are very few examples of him or the commissions publicly admitting to their mistakes
The half point deduction for an eye poke would still be dependent on severity so it's about the same thing... Groin strikes and eye pokes can be horrible but also can be not that bad and I don't want any actors out there getting free point deductions
Regarding points deduction, my current view is: any foul made if it is deemed accidental, this includes head collisions, will result in a warning. And every subsequent foul, even if it were accidental always 1 point deduction minimal.
As much as I agree with Marc about the overall judging, the thing I don’t understand is how the judges who make bad calls consistently over the years still get work for the commission? Chris Lee, Sal D’Amato & Adelaide Byrd spring to mind. The thing about judges is you shouldn’t really know their name, we only know those examples because their name is tied to many controversies, I’m sure some have been around for years & us fans don’t even know who they’re as we hear Buffer say the names then we forget & they correctly judge their is no story in the first place.
The one incident with the fighter who stepped on the piece of glass was crazy. A fighter stepped on a piece of glass in the cage mid fight and told Mark, "Can i get this glass out?" Mark says, "Keep fighting. " The opponent heard what was happening and told the guy,"Just take it out" as he was lifting his leg to get the glass out of his foot mark called the fight and doumbe lost the fight. Made no sense to this day why it was a loss should have been a no contest. Want a fighter to lose, throw some glass in the cage smh 🤷
Mike, stop worrying about having off the cuff chats with guest and talking stories etc thinking we don't want to hear it, I promise you, we very much do as most time, they're the funniest of the podcast
The only question I have for this man is, why did he let Usman fake that nut shot against Covington in the first round when Covington looks like he was about to finish him. It was above the belly button the kick. It was smart of the champ to do it. I just wish the referee didn’t stop it because he was 100% wrong and probably costed Covington the title right there. I don’t think he did it on purpose. That would be messed up, but if you’re not sure about seeing it and not seeing it, I stop it? Just because somebody grabbed their area you stop it? That can’t be right. I’m not some huge Covington fan, but that bothered me.
@1:08:00 Marc's argument against 5 judges is that 3 competent judges are sufficient... but they're often not competent, which is why more judges would act as insurance against rogue incompetent judges - it'd be interesting to hear what negative impact he thinks having more judges could have because it doesn't sound like there would be any.
Well seems pretty clear, if there is a complaint against 3 judges being idiots, 2 more idiots wouldn’t help. 3 competent judges does suffice, but the keyword is competent and there needs to be transparency of the judges decisions and reeducation of fans on what they are looking for as well. I’ve met a few fans after my own fights that still have old judging criteria in mind like old ufc where you had to damn near ko the champ to win the belt, whereas now you can win on a close decision due to the new criteria for unified mma based on damage first, control, aggression and effective placement.
Good ref but the eye poke excuses are bs regarding Jones who never apologized for it and was never warned by a ref. Dana for sure told refs to let his former goat Jones do whatever he wants. Toes excuse is bs. Anderson knocked out Bisping.
goddard is right and schooling bisping here. you cant score on visible damage, thats just nonsense thats literally how a casual would score it this "scoring by damage narrative" is for casuals, "just bleed bro" type of fans thats all there is to it, and ufc shills have to support whatever they come up with for the casuals and if they come up with "visible damage" as scoring criteria, ufc shills have to stand by it even when it makes no sense bisping got multipe decisions he won where he looked a lot worse than the other guy
What are you on about Mike? Time to start getting to know your audience. We could sit and listen for hours about the stories from the good all days. You’re too regimented for your own good. Take a leaf out of joes book and just kick back and have a conversation. 😉
Mike u have it all wrong we want to here the old stories that haven’t been shared the shit mma fans don’t see. Tbh I could care less ab how he got his start in refereeing yada yada.
What do you mean we wouldn't be interested in old tales between you two. That'd be ace!
Exactly
Yup
Most annoying thing about Bisping, he always does it. That’s what we want to hear 🤣
Right he's always saying we don't want to hear something we actually really want to hear 🫠
Bisping listen to the people 🤣

Marc Goddard best UFC ref bar none.
People pick a few examples out of the hundreds of fights they've seen him ref so they can say he sucks. He is very good most of the time imo. They do it to Herb too, it's annoying.
He’s a great ref, but I prefer Mike Beltran
@@PandaMMANews Beltran and Herzog are the best no bs
Mark such a good speaker one of your best mike
Marc comes across so professional and serious as a reff, but is comes across as good craic outside of the octagon 😮
To quote the commentators many times, "Mark Goddard... one of the best in the business" fuckin legend!
Goddard is one of the best refs ever, and I appreciate his contribution

It's organised crime, gambling fixes. Been going on for decades. It goes unpunished bacause it can't be proven, judging fights can be subjective.
Good content here you two fine gentlemen. And i also screamed when max chinned Justin the only time its happened to me aswell thats brilliant lmao

I’d buy that book Mark!
Marks the man my first MMA trainer
Great guest Mike....you cannot beat natural chemistry.
One of the best refs in last decade in UFC for sure if not the best overall in MMA in the world, keep up the good work mate, greetings from Macedonia.
No dude
Marc needs to author that book Mikey was talking about!!! Iy would be legendary!!
Mike, stop worrying about having off the cuff chats with guest and talking stories etc thinking we don't want to hear it, I promise you, we very much do as most time, they're the funniest of the podcast

When's this book out?
STOPPP STOPPP! ITS OVAA!!
Goddard is a fkn legend
On paper, Antony Smith is a ray
OF COUSE I KNOW THE MMA RULES
@bisping we are interested in old stories and your rehab
Hey it’s the MMA Gurus son
All I heard was I don't want to take points off a fighter because I'm scared to be on the hot seat.
Great interview, Marc not so Baddard
The Count That Is King.
Wow the big man marc is 50 he must be taking care of himself 💪

Maybe they are competent and it's you that isn't 🤣
Do you and mark know Abdul Mohamed the wrestler from Middlesbrough
Michael “mayweather” Bising 😂
1:22 Gentlemen we fought a war and became a country over English men speaking sternly to us
5 judges is still a better idea if you make sure they are the best and most capable...
How about if a fighter gets a splinter in the toe?
i train at stevie bs gym (the gym that mark mentioned)
i post some clips on youtube. i did wana learn how to grapple but bjj is expensive.
Cormier is definitely one of em..
a 10 points must system sort of works but if nobody uses 0-6 then the "10" bit makes no sense
Me gooch ey🎉
On paper Goddard is a great ref 😅
Felder freezing indoors?
Good ref but the eye poke excuses are bs regarding Jones who never apologized for it and was never warned by a ref. Dana for sure told refs to let his former goat Jones do whatever he wants.
Toes excuse is bs.
Anderson knocked out Bisping.
Not excuses. They are legit reasons. Learn the difference.
32:02 this rule is never enforced if so it would happen in half the fights.
EEEEYY BOODY
Moicano Denis was a 10-8 round Bisping not a 10-7
Bisping, 5 judges for sure. That eliminates the occasional idiot as you said.
goddard is right and schooling bisping here.

If your judge friends are so smart then why does Jared Gordon have a loss against paddy pimblet when he dog walked him?
Keyboard Bruce Lee's everywhere m8 😅
Imagine I spent the past few months defending Anthony Snake Heart Smith. That guy just lost the only fans he had left
What are you on about Mike? Time to start getting to know your audience. We could sit and listen for hours about the stories from the good all days. You’re too regimented for your own good. Take a leaf out of joes book and just kick back and have a conversation. 😉
Shutup nerd.
mb? ffs MIKE!!!! xD
Big respect for the refs but nah bro when it comes to the judges that’s corruption. Or at best it’s absolute unacceptable incompetence
Is Anthony not part of the show anymore?
Sadly, no he's not. He's started his own channel or joined a different channel. One of the other
Joint 3rd best ever.
1. Big John Mccarthy
2. Smoke da Herb Dean
3. Marc Goddard/ Dan Mirgliatta
Mike u have it all wrong we want to here the old stories that haven’t been shared the shit mma fans don’t see. Tbh I could care less ab how he got his start in refereeing yada yada.
