10:24 when they went into that RUN DMC segment i got i to my hip hop feelings. I agree. When i heard RUNDMC the first time you definately could feel the culture of rapping shift.
Its great to see that Fat Joe is giving props to Black Thought, when it comes to lyrical sparring with the great Pun.You really cant compare those two on "super lyrical" joint. They are both Gods when it comes to hiphop. They just have such a different approach in that collabo.
Anybody wants a quick class in Hip History, just point them to this video. That said, Wu-Tang and André 3000 should have at least been in the conversation.
Yerr! These guys didn't even mention the Wu?! Are you kidding me?! 93 - 97 was Wu-Tang rampaging through hip hop! The whole clan in 93, meth was hit or miss in 94 - (couldn't compete with Nas that year anyway cause really nobody could!), in 95 two the hottest MCs in the game were from the clan! GZA and Rae with their solo debuts! Ironman by Ghost in 96! And in 97 it was Wu-Tang Forever! C'mon bro, in one form or another these niggas had their hand in that hip hop jar, don't front yo!
@@mawandemdutywa2571 clan would have been greater if they all remained with rza and not go their own way, rebel INS is proof that going to loud put him second tier behind rae, ghost and meth. He had the most insane verse on Triamph even though it's a recycled verse he used before Wu tang forever. U God is pure wack, should have never been in the group he's always been hating and causing internal beefs, Al though he did some amazing work on 8 diagrams, he's a below average rapper, not to mention masta killa is so private some people don't even know what he looks like.
Jeffery Johnston you're crazy... you seriously think Pac would out rap Nas? Maybe Nas is too complex for you.. only thing Pac over Nas was emotions.. otherwise Nas had emotions too but he's pen game is out of this world.. he carries the same message like Pac in his songs but Nas is just on another level and creativity wise
Hip Hop is 45 years old but it's hard to say NOW is one era. From 2000 to 2018 is like 2-3 eras in itself. You got the era of 50, Ye, T.I, Jeezy, Cam, etc Then the Kendrick, Cole, Wale, KRIT, Drake, Cudi, etc
Just because he make hit records I don’t think people understand how hard 50 cent was spitting back in his prime. Definitely one of the most impactful in the game
I need a hip hop Netflix show showing these eras with fat joe narrating. That Netflix show had a good start but it ain’t it. Netflix is stupid if they don’t make this happen. Every season is a diff era.
xtac you came up with the idea push it bro figure out how you can get the concept and script artist to narrate and everything you can make something shake with this plan if you wanted to before someone steals it we definitely need that
Key Dot facts but it’s all about who you know. Plus it would take me years to do a proper script cause being 34 my hip hop starts with momma gonna knock you out lol
Plenty of dudes do if not more. QTip produced on Illmatic and all of Tribes classics. He could probably talk even more than Joe. Or Pete Rock, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Caz, etc. Just because they aren't in the spotlight anymore doesn't mean Joe's the only authority. But shouts to Joe because he gave us Pun and for that he can have my respect despite some of the things he's done.
Joe is still hurting against Nas over the Nas & Jay peace thing that happened without Nas giving him a heads up, you can see it every-time he mentions Nas in conversations, he never got over it, he feels betrayed...
You can't really do a top 5 in Rap or even a top 5 in the 90s without leaving people out. In the 90s alone they left out: A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan (collectively & individuality), Mobb Deep, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, Outkast, No Limit (not lyrical but dominated late 90s) then DMX
The people's champ! If we're talking about the greatest MCs, Jadakiss has been spittin' fuego for over 20yrs. I think Flex recognizes it more since he's a DJ and has probably heard more of Jadakiss' underground mixtapes and albums that aren't as commercial. He definitly needs to be in the top 5. There's never been a flow like his. He's just not commercial. He's the people's champ! Top 5 All Time (no particular order): Jadakiss Biggie Jay Z Rakim NAS
Jadakiss is my favourite rapper. Verse for verse, no-one can fucks with him. He deserves to be in the top 10. But he can't be above Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim. He doesn't have as many classic albums as these dudes.
As far as common and skillz.....that's a tight one. Common has had more commercial success, but both of them have great content. They are both lyrical and conscious at the same time so it's almost like a draw to me.
As far as Busta Rhymes versus special ed, I am going to have to give it to Busta Rhyme because of his whole body of work. I don't really think Busta Rhyme is all that lyrical or should I say I think he's decent when it comes to lyrical but I think his strength is his energy.
No body greater than Pac. I'll argue that to my grave. nobody, and i mean NOBODY, had more influence over the masses like pac did. Nobody was as versatile as pac. Pac had a voice and flow that was powerful and unmistakable from any other rapper to this day!
Thats facts tho. If you go back and listen know you might realize other people were nicer....but during that time that he was out and even after his death he was like a God. There was just a vibe.
I wudnt mention meth cause if were talking wu ghost raekwon and inspectah deck were the best lyricists in the group...hell even gza, liquid swords was a lyrical masterpiece.... Redman hella underrated

One of the best interviews I’ve seen in awhile ...hip hop historians
Kurtis blow was the first rapper to go platinum. Da brat was the first female.
nicholas peterson FACTS my brova
That's a fact!!!
Jermaine Dupri wrote all her rhymes and wasn't Lyte the 1st female MC to go Platinum?
Above The Law naw Brat was
So where you leave Roxane shante
Dammn lauren hill , props fat joe !
The D.O.C No one can do it better
He's another what "if" .... We saw his whole career, if it wasn't for that accident he had.. He was lyrical beast
They need to separate the 2000’s and 2010’s
There’s a complete difference✅
BIG FACTS
Big facts just like they did 80s and 90s and 90s and 2000s its only right
LL early bars are DEFINITELY underrated
No love for the Wu. Sad! Meth, Ghost, Rae, GZA and Deck are all top notch MCs
Liquid Swords and Ironman are by far the 2 best solo albums from the Wu. Both classics.
Only built for Cuban links
Jeffrey Porter gza???????!!!!! STOP!!
Jeff Galland wwwwwwwhhhhaaaattt???!!!! You’re inSANE. Purple Tape is maybe the greatest hip hop album of all time
Deck is a monster
This convo was a necessity!
One of the best conversations of all time
I don't know half of the rappers they're talking about but this is entertaining as hell.
HAHA HAHA educate yourself ! We should know our history. Respect
Lmao subscribe me bro
WALDOE2FUNNY it’s done
They all legends
FACTS
2Pac is the GOAT
😂😂😂😂 stop it
Sean Kelly You Stop it 2 PAC is the Greatest
Jeffery Johnston Nas is better HONESTLY
AdamAndEve AAE Nobody's better than Tupac Shakur! Point Blank Period.
THE VIDEO OF DMX, BIG PUN, CANNABIS, MOS DEF, AND FLEX IS ON TH-cam IN THE BAR.
Mos Def , Gang star
Watching these guys geek out is awesome!!!!!
The 3 greatest Careers That Never Was :
- Slick Rick
- The D.O.C.
- Big L
Canibus with a good producer
Hip Hop is 45 years old but it's hard to say NOW is one era.
From 2000 to 2018 is like 2-3 eras in itself.
You got the era of 50, Ye, T.I, Jeezy, Cam, etc
Then the Kendrick, Cole, Wale, KRIT, Drake, Cudi, etc
Richie Buz thank you for putting Tip in there ppl sleep on bro frfr
Pooh Dickerson
T.I > Wayne
1998-2004 is like an era. 2006-2013 is like the full fledged trap era. 2013 on up is the whatever era
Danny Wilkes
Nah. 2006 to 2013 is too much.
Hip Hop took a big shift around 2009.
It depends on how long you've been ingesting hiphop. If 2006 to 2013 is too much for you to process as an era then you're probably under 30yrs old
Just because he make hit records I don’t think people understand how hard 50 cent was spitting back in his prime. Definitely one of the most impactful in the game
yo i'm not gonna even front, this interview was super dope. it was like two homie just kicking it and reminiscing talking about hip hop.
Plus it would take me years to do a proper script cause being 34 my hip hop starts with momma gonna knock you out lol
xtac that's a gr8 idea
Nobody knows hiphop like Joe...
No one!
moons92hds Busta
Plenty of dudes do if not more. QTip produced on Illmatic and all of Tribes classics. He could probably talk even more than Joe. Or Pete Rock, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Caz, etc. Just because they aren't in the spotlight anymore doesn't mean Joe's the only authority. But shouts to Joe because he gave us Pun and for that he can have my respect despite some of the things he's done.
KRS 1
Ralph McDaniels
moons92hds lol
1.Rakim
2. Ice Cube
3. D.O.C
4. Kool G Rap
5. LL.Cool J
Cube was good but never top 5. Maybe his movie career killed it for me 😭
Joe is still hurting against Nas over the Nas & Jay peace thing that happened without Nas giving him a heads up, you can see it every-time he mentions Nas in conversations, he never got over it, he feels betrayed...
@Raghib Ali He could have given him a heads up. Joe had his back .
I’m so glad Flex put Chuck D in his top 5, my fav MC of all time!!!
Fat Joe look crushed when flex said t la rock ain't write it's yours
You can't really do a top 5 in Rap or even a top 5 in the 90s without leaving people out. In the 90s alone they left out: A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan (collectively & individuality), Mobb Deep, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, Outkast, No Limit (not lyrical but dominated late 90s) then DMX
TREACH most underrated imo. Rarely gets a mention... but go listen. Naughty by nature incredible
FACTS...ive said that for years, but people aint buying it
He is super nice
The people's champ! If we're talking about the greatest MCs, Jadakiss has been spittin' fuego for over 20yrs. I think Flex recognizes it more since he's a DJ and has probably heard more of Jadakiss' underground mixtapes and albums that aren't as commercial. He definitly needs to be in the top 5. There's never been a flow like his. He's just not commercial. He's the people's champ!
Top 5 All Time (no particular order):
Jadakiss
Biggie
Jay Z
Rakim
NAS
Jadakiss is my favourite rapper. Verse for verse, no-one can fucks with him.
He deserves to be in the top 10. But he can't be above Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim. He doesn't have as many classic albums as these dudes.
Sales shouldn't even be a factor in any top 5 convo.
Vanilla Ice sold millions. Talk to me about his impact. I'll wait
The amount of people you affect is based on sales. The amount of people who lived their lives around your words is a major factor.
I wanted them to go on for at least 2 hrs
HE MAY NOT BE ON A LIST but Don’t! Forget ! COMMON Sense!!!
I would easily put common before biggie.....and jay z wasn't that good back then.....dmx would have been on that list!
I would agree.... jay z is before busta rhymes
Sound of the pound was super dope. I used to love her solidified him as a lyricist.
Melle mell was one of the best ever. And I'm born in the 80s, but I respect and recognize his greatness/genius. Peace to Beat Street.
Raekwon was the sleeper in that Jay-Z, Biggie, and Nas era along with Prodigy.
Facts
No body greater than Pac. I'll argue that to my grave. nobody, and i mean NOBODY, had more influence over the masses like pac did. Nobody was as versatile as pac. Pac had a voice and flow that was powerful and unmistakable from any other rapper to this day!
Your opinion but not the ultimate or absolute truth 😉
tupac was garbage.
Thats facts tho. If you go back and listen know you might realize other people were nicer....but during that time that he was out and even after his death he was like a God. There was just a vibe.
Big L, Biggy, Eminem, rakim and Nas are superior lyricaly.
True bro plus the volume and quality of work produced for his life span was more than most artists could produce in a life time
Kool G Rap - Greatest of all time!!! Even Pun kissed his ring,... Enough said! 🙌
Pun did kiss the ring. But pun was better
Damn right!!
Punisher and Em are two of the greatest technical rappers of all time. The two would have wrecked havoc together.
I'm 50 years old lived through all these years used to bump New York rap as a young teen but then the West Coast blow them off the map also South
That's okay good for the culture
About time rakim gets his respect
Fat joe has the best back in the day stories I've ever heard lol
I freaking love Fat Joe he’s so animated. You can tell he’s passionate about Hip Hop music though!
Redman, Method Man, Talib Kweli were there before Em. Why no mention? No Mos Def?
Nah. They are cool but no.@Jarrel Ely
I wudnt mention meth cause if were talking wu ghost raekwon and inspectah deck were the best lyricists in the group...hell even gza, liquid swords was a lyrical masterpiece....
Redman hella underrated
Jarrel Ely not better than em
What about Redman Yo Eminem got his style from Red what about Treach
True. Chino XL, Percee P, AZ and Masta Ace seem to have influenced him the most in his early days as far as my ears tell me.
Treach too for sure. Treach was ahead of his time.
Odell Goodman-EL trench is underrated for sure.
Odell Goodman-Bey Eminem style ain’t Redmans it masta ace to a teee listen to masta ace flow
They have excellent chemistry. They’re Hip hop history walking books.
Proud to be from the same place joe from
Dudes forgot about the Wu
Brehon Mills I absolutely loved Wu but they don't beling near a top 5. Rae's album was a classic but he still not on that level.
Wu is legendary but the group thing takes them out the convo
It is disrespectful that Meth is not mentioned though
Brehon Mills we didn’t forget lmao
Brehon Mills damn they did
Dope discussion/ interview. Everything Joe saying is true. That's exactly how Forest Pojects was. I remember the Jams in the basketball court. Why doesn't this have a million views yet?
If you never wore Cazals, a shearling and Bally's, you might not fully get this interview.
Tone Riggz false...I was too poor for that shit.😁 (and its Gazelles)
See I told you I was too poor, you're right...Cazals
Blackelly 5 Gazelles LOL
