I thought he was doin collars, it looked like heavyweight. Hell I’ve done 10 inch collars faster with 2 ropes and why didn’t he have a rope for the elevators?
He could've racked that skinny collar much quicker. He was having a hard time with his ropes. I had the floorhands tie some sash cord to the latch or I just swung from the ladder in my riding belt. My rig hook load capacity 2,050,000 14 line 1- 5/8" cable. I miss it.
When drilling directional racking back 3 stands 10 3/4" monel collars each more than 105' length. Each stand going in took me less 3 minutes. That derrick hand's got a lot learn. I worked derricks 6 yrs. All but 1 double (Ideco full view) were triples, inland drill barges. My favorite is the standard derrick. Anyway.
That was no collar. The 6 inch collar weighs 57 pounds per lineal foot, 3 hooked together roughly 100 feet long weighs 5700 pounds. You don't jack that to the back of the board, it was a 5 inch drill pipe
Jason A lol it’s a collar they come in different sizes idk why you think they only come in 6” collar. Another thing is they are on a work over rig so it’s a double not a triple. The Whole crew including the pusher might not know that a sash cord through the elevators could help him unlatch the collar a lot easier and he wouldn’t even need the rope to pull back with he would only need the rope to tie back the tbg and collars
Looks like a 4 3/4 slick collar. Most doubles you need to use the old rope through the latch trick. Would like to see how this guy would go if that old rope he was using broke while he was up there 🤣🤣
i work derricks for long time but this 5" dc its nothing a can pulled back by hand with out a rope i want to see this guy pulling 6" or 8" that its fun i stell miss those days pulling pipe and dancing up there's
I don’t know how tall the rig was but simplest fix would have been to use longer bails, that way blocks could come down to Derrick man instead him climbing to reach elevators.

Yes. On a tall stand like that I would. And ride the elevators up on the way into the hole to latch it. But normally, that is a one rope, piss-ant collar.
This is stupi to do this you put a rope across the door in the elevetors so you just use that other rope to pull the collar and ones it lands you pull the lil rope in the elevators and they open this is a lose of time tats whatvit is

@@geneautry2091 I was just saying a hypothetical. Used to be a derick hand. Racking pipe all day no problem, but drill collars. I'd probably lose my mind.
Is easy to see that no one in this crew has ever pull drill collars the work over operator should advise the worm how to unlatch the elevator with a rope and latch them as well but they never have worked on a drilling rig is just a pulling unit where they pull rods and 2 3/8 or 2 7/8 tubing most the time
Worm! I love my oilfield brothers but dude……. What the Fukk was all that? One pullback rope and a rope on the elevators for anything under 6” on a double for sure but on a triple with that little BHA you can just snatch that mofo outta there hand! Grrrrrr git it done!

Simplest job on the rig ! The elevators come up full , empty em ! They come up empty fill em !

Why is the drill pipe stand so high WTF? I've worked on big rigs in western OK in the 80's never seen anything like this.
Cuz he's working on a service rig and the monkey board is more suited for production tubing. A single joint of production tubing is about 31, 32 feet.

good thing there is typically only two maybe three stands of drill collars

rope on latch and not wrap it all the way around the collar and stand on the hand rail
They need some drill collar nubbins instead of that lift sub

tie off collar with two ropes . it doesn't move around and make one rope high up easier to reach elevators
