But the question that puzzles me is why didnt Bhishma accept Karna as a kshatriya then when he knew the truth about Karna's birth. Why didnt ge intoduce Karna to the Pandavas as their elder brother. According to the rules of those days, even if Karna was born to Kunti before marriage, he would still be eligible to be the rightful heir to the throne. So if Krishna says that, then by all means that is not illegal or immoral during those times. Besides, if you are thinking that Karna is illegitimate, then my argument is that all the Pandavas were born illegitimate as they were not born of Pandu. Truth is the Pandavas were not born as a product of sexual intercourse but by divine gift given to Kunti by sage Durvasa.
