Yknow I haven't really thought about it before, but when spamton's eyes go staticy like a TV with no signal, it's almost like he can finally speak. As if the signal he is always receiving isn't the real him. It solidifies the theme of control(and lack thereof) that the whole game really emphasizes. Maybe I should have grasped this concept earlier... I'm a little vague lol
There's a theory out there about how that's not Spamton speaking at all, but someone we'll meet in later chapters. Some say Dess Holiday, other's believe it's Mike. idk myself, just spreading the gossip. =P
This is an amazing cover, but I don't understand the comments that say it's calming It's a vibe, that's for sure, but it's unsettling to me, uncanny, something dark and tragic about it
For me, this isn't calm. It is unsettling, yes, but if anything, it's more depressing. It feels like the representation of spamton failing to achieve the freedom he so desperately desired, designed for the sole purpose of being pushed around.
@@CherryRibbon I think it's calm in a sort of "it's finally over" way. Spamton literally crashed and burned in his journey to break free but his obsession with freedom was a prison in and of itself. It was literally all he ever worked towards or thought about. Even if he got his freedom, he would almost definitely be constantly paranoid that it could be ripped away from him at any moment and he would be back in the dumpster. He couldn't enjoy it even if he got it. At least now he can move on, even if doing so is pretty depressing. He develops a new sense of purpose after he's defeated though (i.e. "let me become your strength") so I've always interpreted "Dialtone" as depressing and a bit eerie but also tinged with a tiny bit of hope for what's to come next.
A lot of people like soft melancholy music and even creepy atmospheric music. Maybe they're insensitive, but it just sounds interesting to casually listen to

I still get chills that Gaster is slowly making himself known to the world of Undertale and alot more in Deltarune (not just being a slight creepy easter egg found in the files all those years ago) and was able to communicate and corrupt Spamton and Jevil. It almost feels like he's doing this to show he's the real villain of the story and might escape from wherever he's trapped in.

Spamton is an amazing character. He deserved so much better. He was just a salesman struggling, and when the only person helping him left, he fell apart. He knew that he needed Mike, but he plays it off like he needs nobody, and that he just needs to get bigger, and not be anyones puppet anymore. He pushed everyone away. And inevitably, never got the reasurance and support he needed. I feel like the fandom sometimes whittles him down to just "funni salesman lol", but he is so so so much more than that.
If Mike is the TV, then he was probably unplugged so he couldn’t communicate with Spamton. And the phone ringing in Spamton’s shop is Mike trying to call him, but spamton never picks up…
I struggle with constant disassociation and this song captures what it feels like, as if you're on autopilot and the ringing is being brought back to your senses if only for a moment. but for the most part you're just there, seemingly alone in your own head, only being able to forget that it's there occasionally but never escaping, always being bound by these strings, always on autopilot, always alone...
Some in the comments say it's calming and some say it's unsettling. I think it's a weird mix of both. It's got a feeling of sadness/creepiness, but it still feels like an ending, like all the tension is finally gone.

It reminds me of someone who’s friends had told them to meet up somewhere, but they waited and waited and they never showed up. Their friends were never found, and the person was lost too.
I remember one online game I used to play long time ago. I met someone there and we used to meet there everyday. But once, he didnt show up. I waited for him and waited, until I lost hope. I remembered about this game two years ago and it turned out that the servers were closed. 😞
I love how much i hate the way I felt with this cover. It took me a sec to recognize that it's the same piano synth as Fallen Down with a little extra noise. And it works so well to create a perfect hauntingness to it that i really felt uneasy with, in a good way. You've done very well and it's very fitting to Spamton. Be proud.
I don't know why but, when I listen to this I feel something in my chest, a void. I feel incomplete, or something like that, maybe lonely? No other song makes me feel like that, toby fox is truly a god on composing
Ya know it sounds silly, but the more I grow I relate to this character. Losing friends,losing partners, losing jobs, having little to no money/barely scraping by. And at the end of it all feeling like your life has no real course of action, like your just a puppet. It's maddening, but smiling regardless because you never know if something will come along and improve your life. Great character that idk if toby intended to be so deep lol
Oh wow... the vibe of this cover is just slightly different enough... that I could fall asleep to this... Imagine this is a lullaby that would play if Spamton was actually cared for as a child, and was being tucked into bed or something. The meaning of the song would be comfort and peace instead of loss. And then when he gets older and his life is ruined, the song sounds sad and slightly offputting because of his newly gained trauma and loss of peace he had in his childhood.

I don't know why i like dialtone so much, specially when i play it on the piano, it just makes me not think, only the music is here, i don't even think about the position of my fingers anymore because i already mastered it. i don't find it creepy enough to the point it's disturbing neither claming enough to the point it's relaxing, it makes me tense yet not thinking about anything, i guess i just like thet feeling and my brain gets to rest because i think so much about so many things throughout my day. i wanted to talk more about it, but it's so empty there's not even much to talk about, for me it represents nothingness so well, i know it's supposed to be a dial tone, that's the name of the song, but for me it's nothing. The overall presentation of this video both with the cover photo and and music give me a type of nostalgia I have not felt before, it reminds me of before I moved out of my grandparents home 3 years ago. It's sold now, but this video feels like it's a part of those memories, probably because that's the last place I can remember before my life started to go wrong for me.
This video also gives me a false memory, where I'm alone, in the woods, on a slightly cold day. Just sitting there, on a bench, not knowing what to do, while I see somewhere, a field full of kids, socializing, yet I still sit and wait for someone, to come up and sit with me, but no one ever comes. The kids don't care to listen to me, only there friends. When I used to try and go up to the kids, they'd be rude and insult me. Even though I was just trying to be like them, but no one ever cared, they just thought I was some weirdo. So now, sitting in the woods, I make a choice, and that choice is to sit there, and wait.

I get up with a short view and wake up to a light. an eye-dazzling ray, despite my look of the stabbing fire of the sun. But I come an expression of discouragement before, like a wet sky. cold, cold and empty, as always.
Listening to this took me down a little mental rabbit hole, This is the socialital insanity, manifested in the form of hyperlink funny guy. This song ignores the persona to completely reveal that core. The inherit insanity nobody realizes they have. The desire to keep being greater and greater at the cost of everything. Rising sales and depression rates, a false cycle of success leading to success, ultimately ends up being a downfall in of itself. Nothing we ever do is good enough to others because the bar is constantly moving. Like a form of voluntary slavery, but the person is illusioned to thinking its somthing else entirely. We don’t need money to live, but we made it that way, for what? More money to play abstract games called transactions with? People often make great sacrifices just to gamble with it, and we look down on those people, but many of us don’t realize we're doing the same thing, just by being passive instead. Any of that work you did can come shattering down in an instant due to bad decisions from higher ups, or you if you're one of them. Then, you have nothing to fall back on, as even natural resources required to live have a price tag, and we often pay more for groceries that aren't stuffed with chemicals and taste worse. All this is to say, in isolation, any of these would be considered, well crazy, dystopian, horrible, yet we act like we're perfectly logical and rational in making those decisions. Everyone is insane as far as logic and reasonability is concerned, but no one is insane because it's so normal. I find this an interesting contrast to Jevil, a character who fits a social convention of insanity. He treats his hinderences as a way to be more free, and while spamton is treated to tracks such as this, jevil is upbeat. He relishes his own somewhat strnage and illogical veiw and becomes happier because of it, where spamton is stuck in an illusion, constantly chasing after something unobtainable, even when it looks barely in reach, becoming sadder because of it.

I know Toby haves a F*** tone of leifmotifs but this song is a direct rip-off, made by Toby himself. XD Hell! Gaster's main theme if played side by side fits perfectly with both TWR & Big Shot. I know that's not much to take from, but knowing Toby, he's most likely make the next 4-5 "Weird Secret Characters" theme song also fit Gaster's. =P.

It's used in World Revolving, as well as BIG SHOT, connecting both characters. Spamton is an amazing character. He deserved so much better. He was just a salesman struggling, and when the only person helping him left, he fell apart. He knew that he needed Mike, but he plays it off like he needs nobody, and that he just needs to get bigger, and not be anyones puppet anymore. He pushed everyone away. And inevitably, never got the reasurance and support he needed. I feel like the fandom sometimes whittles him down to just "funni salesman lol", but he is so so so much more than that.

I struggle with constant disassociation and this song captures what it feels like, as if you're on autopilot and the ringing is being brought back to your senses if only for a moment. but for the most part you're just there, seemingly alone in your own head, only being able to forget that it's there occasionally but never escaping, always being bound by these strings, always on autopilot, always alone...
I also have dissociation, and an anxiety disorder, and you described it very well

Some in the comments say it's calming and some say it's unsettling. I think it's a weird mix of both. It's got a feeling of sadness/creepiness, but it still feels like an ending, like all the tension is finally gone.

I love how much i hate the way I felt with this cover.
It took me a sec to recognize that it's the same piano synth as Fallen Down with a little extra noise. And it works so well to create a perfect hauntingness to it that i really felt uneasy with, in a good way.

Ya know it sounds silly, but the more I grow I relate to this character. Losing friends,losing partners, losing jobs, having little to no money/barely scraping by. And at the end of it all feeling like your life has no real course of action, like your just a puppet. It's maddening, but smiling regardless because you never know if something will come along and improve your life. Great character that idk if toby intended to be so deep lol

Imagine this is a lullaby that would play if Spamton was actually cared for as a child, and was being tucked into bed or something. The meaning of the song would be comfort and peace instead of loss. And then when he gets older and his life is ruined, the song sounds sad and slightly offputting because of his newly gained trauma and loss of peace he had in his childhood.

I don't know why i like dialtone so much, specially when i play it on the piano, it just makes me not think, only the music is here, i don't even think about the position of my fingers anymore because i already mastered it.
i don't find it creepy enough to the point it's disturbing neither claming enough to the point it's relaxing, it makes me tense yet not thinking about anything, i guess i just like thet feeling and my brain gets to rest because i think so much about so many things throughout my day.

The overall presentation of this video both with the cover photo and and music give me a type of nostalgia I have not felt before, it reminds me of before I moved out of my grandparents home 3 years ago. It's sold now, but this video feels like it's a part of those memories, probably because that's the last place I can remember before my life started to go wrong for me.
This video also gives me a false memory, where I'm alone, in the woods, on a slightly cold day. Just sitting there, on a bench, not knowing what to do, while I see somewhere, a field full of kids, socializing, yet I still sit and wait for someone, to come up and sit with me, but no one ever comes. The kids don't care to listen to me, only there friends. When I used to try and go up to the kids, they'd be rude and insult me. Even though I was just trying to be like them, but no one ever cared, they just thought I was some weirdo. So now, sitting in the woods, I make a choice, and that choice is to sit there, and wait.

Listening to this took me down a little mental rabbit hole,
This is the socialital insanity, manifested in the form of hyperlink funny guy. This song ignores the persona to completely reveal that core. The inherit insanity nobody realizes they have. The desire to keep being greater and greater at the cost of everything. Rising sales and depression rates, a false cycle of success leading to success, ultimately ends up being a downfall in of itself. Nothing we ever do is good enough to others because the bar is constantly moving. Like a form of voluntary slavery, but the person is illusioned to thinking its somthing else entirely. We don’t need money to live, but we made it that way, for what? More money to play abstract games called transactions with? People often make great sacrifices just to gamble with it, and we look down on those people, but many of us don’t realize we're doing the same thing, just by being passive instead. Any of that work you did can come shattering down in an instant due to bad decisions from higher ups, or you if you're one of them. Then, you have nothing to fall back on, as even natural resources required to live have a price tag, and we often pay more for groceries that aren't stuffed with chemicals and taste worse. All this is to say, in isolation, any of these would be considered, well crazy, dystopian, horrible, yet we act like we're perfectly logical and rational in making those decisions.
Everyone is insane as far as logic and reasonability is concerned, but no one is insane because it's so normal. I find this an interesting contrast to Jevil, a character who fits a social convention of insanity. He treats his hinderences as a way to be more free, and while spamton is treated to tracks such as this, jevil is upbeat. He relishes his own somewhat strnage and illogical veiw and becomes happier because of it, where spamton is stuck in an illusion, constantly chasing after something unobtainable, even when it looks barely in reach, becoming sadder because of it.
When all your dreams are crushed and you're forced to do something you don't like for the rest of your life.

I know that's not much to take from, but knowing Toby, he's most likely make the next 4-5 "Weird Secret Characters" theme song also fit Gaster's. =P.

It's used in World Revolving, as well as BIG SHOT, connecting both characters.
