  • Let's learn how to use the particle YA や in this lesson.
    Just like the particle TO と, YA や connects nouns. The only difference is that TO と indicates the all-inclusive list whereas YA や indicates the examples.
    This lesson is from げんき GENKI Lesson 11

    I like Japanese food and also Italian food. It is correct.

      Grammatically incorrect to add 'also' after 'and'. Maybe acceptable for non native speakers of English.

      The best way to phrase it is, “I like Japanese and Indian food.” You can use more than one adjective to qualify the same noun.

    So, you use the particle YA to explain, among other things. And the particle TO, to explain AND, a continuation of something.

    what if you're listing more than 2 things? would you still use ya to connect them?

    Maybe obvious question, why does Japanese food and Italian food not require the ‘no’ particle between, eg: nihon no ryouri ? Thx

    • @MrDaviddavo
      @MrDaviddavo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In non-formal Japanese they omit some particles a lot of the time, so maybe it has 'transcended' to the formal world.
