Yeah, this was a re-run episode, back when my videos were a bit more personal in nature. I know some folks dig that. Others show up at my house with torches and pitchforks. Granted, the torches and pitchforks were probably for other reasons.
I'm going to assume the first story of Mark Gregory being discovered is the more accurate one. This is essentially how these low budget action films were cast, go to a gym, round up some Meatheads and send them to the wardrobe department, need some starlets for your movie? Go to a wet T-shirt contest and cast them from there. And since this particular movie was primarily an Italian production don't worry about thespian skills, any and all versions of the movie will be dubbed and redubbed to the content of whoever is releasing it in whatever country. The second story doesn't quite hold the mustard, I really can't imagine thousands of young thespian hopefuls lining up to appear in this production which wasn't exactly to Hollywood standards.
Sounds logical to me. The second account does kind of have that ring of a publicist inventing a "Hollywood" success story. Or at very least exaggerating said story. There's quite a bit more strangeness when it comes to the late Mr. Gregory and how he met his untimely end. I just didn't want to discuss such matters in the video itself.

This movie could've been played on WFTY late on a Friday or Saturday night back in the 80s or 90s. (WFTY was a UHF station out of DC where I saw the likes of movies like _Equinox_ _Frankenstein Island_ and _Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death_ (which starred a young Bill Maher)
That sounds like a very good use of your time and money. Though I do wonder about your decision to wear it to jury duty. Or was that just implied? That's a good catch with the Geddy Lee at Hogworts. I hadn't thought of that, but I know exactly what you mean. Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death is a good one. Lots of fun and much more lighthearted than the title would suggest.
@@AtomicSnackBar Well, it's a sure fire way to get out of jury duty. I mean, for the amount of money I'm gonna pay for the costume I might as well get multiple uses from it! If you haven't seen _Equinox_ (1970 film) you should track it down. Sam Raimi's _Evil Dead_ films share too many similarities to be coincidence. Dunno if they should be considered a ripoff, an homage, or just movies with lots of influences from the other film.
@ AtomicSnackBar - I saw Equinoxes at a Drive-in in 1970 and it always stuck with me. The VFX was done by Denis Muren ( I think) a recent graduate of USC's film school. He went on to a few other minor films.😉 But especially considering what a fan of Stop Motion you are, there's a bit near the end which will no doubt impress you. @ AtomicSnackBar - Hey...how about doing a 'Bronx' series. Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx is a lot of fun and you haven't dipped into the Martial Arts genre since the name change. Or is it too outside of the parameters of the SnackBar?
@@tonysantiago255 That is an excellent question and suggestion, good sir. I'm really not sure. I'll need to test the waters a bit, but I have feeling that without a sci-fi element, martial arts wouldn't go over too well.
Little believed fact, there was a third movie greenlit called Bronx Cheer, but the light turned red before production. In that script, Trash was taken out by the NYC sanitation department and wound up in a Staten Island landfill. His outfit was donated to the Tom of Finland Museum of Soiled Leather. Fred Williamson, who didn't get a part in Across 110th Street went a few miles north to star in this movie. Vic Morrow, who played Hammer, was up for a part in Toolbox Murders but he was rejected after his abbreviated performance in Twilight Zone The Movie. Chris Connelly who played Hot Dog, wound up in hot water in a street cart and was eaten for lunch. Daisy May, who appeared in the shampoo ad, was a romantic interest of Li'l Abner, until she found out why they called him Li'l. These liner notes were sponsored by the Sterling Institute for The Preservation of Decomposition.
The great epic of Li'l Abner and Daisy May was quite the story in its day. The moonshine was a flowing in celebration. That is, until the truth came out. The hideous truth of the Hot Dog/Kolchak debacle of '45.
Man, it's been awhile... I grew up on Roosevelt Island in nyc. Some of the exterior shots from 90BW were filmed there when I was about 12. I know this bc my dad took me to see this movie in 1983, and towards the end, there was my "playground" - burned out, rubble strewn southern end of the Island...with the CitiCorp building in the background! The exteriors in the clips you showed us were filmed in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with the Twin Towers in the background! 😂 Might have to watch this again.
Ah man, that's really neat, especially that you got to see it on the big screen. I got to see a lot of really cool movies at the theater because we didn't have a chain theater, but not any of those. You should definitely give it another watch.
@@AtomicSnackBar I will. Yeah, it was a fun moment that helped cement my love of this town. As a kid, I didn't appreciate the b movie aspect of the movie. Ted!! Didn't know he was in it! Cannot believe they made a sequel... Next up, _Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer II_ .
I saw this movie a long time ago. This was the kind of movie you'd see on HBO or Cinemax. When you use the word "wacky", do you mean funny in an odd way or something else?
Well, now that is certainly an interesting question. I don't mean funny, per se. Wacky isn't always funny. Just more so oddball or peculiar with a sense of whimsy.
Why is it every time I see Mark Gregory I feel like breaking into 🎶 Ohhhh...we're half way there-ere🎶Oh, oh...livin' on a prayer..🎶 ? Actually, this was quite enjoyable one. Very over the top fantasy and colorful, considering the Broncos seediness. I'll be checking out the sequel and the others you mentioned. Right after I wax my chest and pull out my Bon Jovi albums.
Or you could go the Paul Stanley route and just rock the overflowing chest hair with your long, flowing locks. That's the thing about the 80s dystopian retro-future, they don't judge you on your chest hair choices.

The only film I have seen that you mentioned would be the obvious one Humanoids From The Deep. I don’t really know what my problem is because this one is right up my alley because I love Escape From New York and L.A. Anyway that’s all I have for this one. Don’t disown me… Keep It Snacky good buddy!!
I'm sorry, I can't respond to this one. Too busy disowning you. No, I kid. I kid. I didn't see the Warriors for the first time until I was in my late 20s. It just never crossed my path. But it's a darn good movie. It's really quite grim and serious, even with the colorful and weird gangs.
[ Note to future self: Update this placeholder with a belated yet suitably amusing comment, possibly about how “Trashy” this movie is, but hopefully something way better. Oh, and don’t forget to buy booze after work tomorrow. ]
How you feel about this movie probably depends on where you were in the human life cycle when you first saw it. As a thirty something, I thought the movie was hilariously awful with Fred Williamson being the only redeeming acting asset. Undoubtedly an entertainingly bad movie but definitely a schlockingly bad one.
Was this a sci-fi movie: a post apocalypse type? Now “The Warriors” wasn’t post-apocalyptic. That was just the way New York was in the 70's. The way it was portrayed in “Death Wish”. Overrun was gangs and crime everywhere. Just like a Stephen King movie😉. Is sci-fi about how to make the world a better place? Usually it’s about the opposite: how we ruin everything. “Soylent green is…” you know 😮. How these post apocalyptic movies end is …always the same. A victory that gives hope but the future is still bleak. Maybe less so if the same leaders who got the victory could form a coalition and get a consensus on how to go forward with… aww who am I kidding. The purpose of a post apocalyptic movie is to make people feel good about the future of…morality? There ARE still good people left? Even in the direst circumstance all you need is not morality. You need good looks and muscles 💪! Yeah, you need clerics in your campaign, but you mostly need fighters. Paladins would be the best of both worlds.
A very good question and also a good distinction. Much like "The Warriors" this one is more a dark or dystopian future type deal. No big event is stated that has made the world what it is. That said, folks often do put this one, as well as The Warriors and Escape from New York, in that very category.
@@AtomicSnackBar An idea just popped into my head. What if, instead of “gangs”, you substituted cults? In a post apocalyptic world all the different cults who prepared and survived, because of their different beliefs, now had to live with each other? Have the machines from “Terminator” and “Matrix” live with the cults/survivors from “Omega Man”, “Road Warrior”, “Planet of the Apes”, “Resident Evil”, Cthulhu cults, Devil worshipping cults, etcetera. Now that would be a Battle Royale!
Love this movie, always enjoyed the bizarre drum solo on the dockside when the gang find that corpse.

I think Criterion gave the film a Bluray release as well.
@@tonysantiago255I love how it's chock full of classic tropes like the crazy old man who provides exposition (i.e. Zadok Allen from "The Shadow Over Innsmouth") and the musty old grimoire from which monstrous things are summoned. The whole film is on TH-cam, so I'll give it another look today. It's been decades since I've seen it.
@@Driven2Beers No, I sure haven't, but with appearances by Forrest J. Ackerman and Jim Danforth, it sounds like I need to.
Did they raid a K mart for the props ?
I know I sure would.
Fr me the highlight of these urban chaos genre films are the flamboyant gangs. A fine example is the gang that battles Paul Kersey in Deathwish 3.
I too enjoy a good, flamboyant gang. Movies and TV sure got the future wrong.
Leave the Bronx, you are order to leave....oh wait wrong film
But if you squint hard enough . . .
Another sterling job, Mr. Sterling.
Thank you muchly, Mr. Dee.
This was a great post apocalyptic flick, I've never seen the sequels tho, really should get around to that one day.
That you should, good sir. Could save your life one day.
@@AtomicSnackBar 😀
Might have to watch this again.
Another awesome piece of work, you Magnificent Son of a gun. Really interesting looking film.
Thank you muchly. But I think the proper term is "Magnificent Bastid."
Don't think too hard about this movie. Just sit back and enjoy.
I find that thinking just messes everything up.
Impressive cast in this movie.
Very.
Solitary was not nice... But, I am BACK. Dang cracking topic, kudos Mr. RS. Must run, the amoebas are getting spooked. Regards to TS et al.
It is unfortunate. But I have to say, you sure do look good in black and white stripes.
Broncos. It wouldn't be a Comment Section without the algorithm retyping something. B*stich machines.
Or you could go the Paul Stanley route and just rock the overflowing chest hair with your long, flowing locks. That's the thing about the 80s dystopian retro-future, they don't judge you on your chest hair choices.
When people talk about the south bronx of the 70's and 80's , here it is kids - 100% raw and real - it was wild in those streets. Still got my roller boots and hockey stick from my gang days Bopping Ballet Dancers (2nd Division) and the Lords Of Lavender (Perfume Divison). We fought against all the big gangs- Blood Bunnies, Bowel Gas Gestapo, Screaming Turds, The Grandpas, Nutsack Nuns, Fare Dodgers, Booty Scratchers, The Panties and the Cheese Helmets. Rough times, but i wouldnt change it for the world!
I had a feeling this film was far more factional than the media wanted to let on at the time. I mean, why would the filmmaker make that stuff up?
Hard to go wrong if you got Vic Morrow in it. Not seen this one before. I will forever think of Vic as Sargent Saunders & one great actor who we miss dearly. This one may not be my cup of tea but if Vic is in it i would watch it.
And he is quite good in it too. Certainly worth a watch to see him play as a villain.
@@AtomicSnackBar He was a real bastard in the TZ movie so i know he could act in any role & pull it off. Such a sad day when he was killed. I'll look for the movie on YT . If i had to choose a fight between those bikers or the Hells Angels i would take the Angels.
I've heard YT likes comments because they show ingagment. This video was a Good recommendation for me. I found it informative, entertaining, educational and relaxing. So stuff that in your algo YT. See you next video!
Many thanks, Sol. And that is very true. Same goes for likes and dislikes. YT doesn't see the difference. All they see is engagement.
I’m definitely on the right channel but I’m not really sure what you are going to do with me… because I technically haven’t even seen The Warriors.. I have only seen bits and pieces of it.
Hey! Just because a wasteland is lawless, doesn’t mean the inhabitants will break the rules of the road!
Clearly, you've never driven around here.
@@AtomicSnackBar I used to drive my parents mad, but that’s about my limit
@@haitch2676 Oh, I bet young Haitch was a delight.
@@AtomicSnackBar young Haitch was an angel, a blessing to be around
@@haitch2676 I know. I've read the pamphlets.
Check the pronunciation of Castellari. He’s a minor God of Italian cinema
Yeah, I made mention of my incorrect pronunciation twice in the video.
That’s the Brooklyn Bridge. Not the Bronx.
I have a feeling they didn't care too much.
[ Note to future self: Update this placeholder with a belated yet suitably amusing comment, possibly about how “Trashy” this movie is, but hopefully something way better.
Oh, and don’t forget to buy booze after work tomorrow. ]
Would you also note to your future self that no matter what he says or does, lime green corduroy suits with an orange ascot are not going to catch on.
I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. But hey, potato/tomato and all that good stuff.
Thanks for watching.
Haha the original g.l.o.w. girl commercel awesome late night memories
