Can't believe I'm the first to comment here! I found Paul Brady and his arrangement of the song Arthur McBride for the very first time 3 days ago...Maybe it's only 2 and half days....it's hard to tell.....time has lost its meaning.....my tax returns are late, I've already been fined once, and I still can't stop listening to, and looking for references to this astonishing song....the guitar is on the setee in Open D and I've been attempting a few short licks on and off before I settle down to some tutorials .... Often in my life as a musician, I've been sidetracked, diminished the importance of music in my life and even for while tried to leave it behind me almost, like something I'd grown out of. When I hear someone like Paul Brady it's like I've suddenly been thrust out of the murky depths of stagnant water into the life-giving air of a fresh summer's day... like I've been shaken awake and remembered suddenly why the hell I'm here.... at the same time as grieving a life almost lost, it gives me the courage to pick up and dust down, and thank [insert higher power of your understanding] for the chance that is still here.
LOVE this documenting the process and impact of this record! I stumbled on a taped recording of Paul's Arthur MacBride with NO attribution in 1980. For two, almost three years I had a record shop owner friend in Boone NC hunting for whose record this was. It took such a long time! She found the record and I about wore it out. I know this is probably my most favorite album EVER, and I'm 78 now. I played it constantly while I was pregnant, and found Paul's Hard Station and danced to it through my pregnancy, plus his follow up. I was totally smitten! Named my only child Paul in fact! Finally ordered the Paul Brady and Andy Irvine recording on CD so I could listen in the car all the time still! Now cars have no CD players and I'm not a very high tech person...

If you haven’t already ,look for Transatlantic sessions ,Paul Brady is on there along with other greats .
Open G, if you want to play it the same way he does.
If you haven't seen this, be prepared for the most fantastic live performance by Andy, Paul + Donal Lunny! th-cam.com/video/O2L05TsbciE/w-d-xo.html

Nothing in the whole trad catalog tops Lough Erne Shore, Arthur McBride, Mary and the Soldier. All in one album! ❤️
