A literally had a Deja vu moment for a while because i remember seeing a similar video on your channel but than i rechecked and this is like an extended version of that video . This type of music did deserves a seperate video Gabe good work !
The first song is a traditional Greek song that originates from Asia minor. It came along with the Greek refugees from Turkey after the exchange of populations back in 1923. it is called TZIVAERI, which is a word of Turkish-Arabian origin and means "precious". A mother cries for his son that lives away from home in a foreign land. The lyrics are as follows Ah! The foreign lands are taking happiness from him My Tzivaeri* My flower with the beautiful smell Slowly and humbly Ah! It was me who sent him there My Tzivaeri With my own will Slowly i step on the ground Ah! To be damned foerign lands My Tzivaeri You and your good Slowly and humbly Ah! That you take my little child My Tzivaeri And you made him yours Slowly i step on the ground And here is the song with the lyrics. th-cam.com/video/H1kjhhoZUI0/w-d-xo.html
@Nikolas When you say "Slowly and humbly" in Greek the work is sigana (σιγανά) which can also be translated as speaking with a very low volume, almost whispering. I think this is what the song means. The mother complaints that she has lost her son to a foreign land but almost cannot say it out loud as she has given her permission as well and she feels she understands that she needs to remain humble as this was also God's will. So she is making an almost silent complaint throughout the song, that's why the song follows a slow tempo with no climax. At least that's how I interpret it when I listen to it :)
I was on Anafi recently. Because of high winds I had to stay 3 more days and I think I was at the same festival (8th Sept), but there were a lot more people dancing. Maybe it was later in the evening.

Gabe, have you been to the Croatian islands? I will be there next week. It will be my first time in Europe. How do they compare with the Greek Islands?
I went to one of the islands on this boat tour: th-cam.com/video/YUZrImTvLG0/w-d-xo.html But I can't say I explored them properly. Definitely want to at some point. You'll love them, they look amazing.
My Mother Asleep by Leonard Cohen From Book Of Longing Gabriel, Love your channel. When ever I think of Greece I think of this poem by Leonard Cohen. Hope you like it: remembering my mother at a theatre in Athens thirty thirty-five years ago a revue by Theodorakis those great songs she fell asleep in the chair beside mine in the open-air theatre she had arrived that day from Montreal and the play started close to midnight and she slept through the mandolins the climbing harmonies and the great songs I was young I hadn’t had my children I didn’t know how far away your love could be I didn’t know how tired you could get
Hard to watch. I just came back yesterday from Naxos, which is north to Anafi. The two days drive back home helped a little bit to get back into reality... I envy you Gabriel....
Is it typical of Gabriel or local accent to pronounce the 'a" so distinctly as "eh". Most people in the English speaking world say "ah" e.g. " there is ah party" or in Australia " ay party" but don't recall people being so distinctively " eh".
Excellent. Respect and peace from Turkey.

Music sounds similar to Middle Eastern... Cool 👌
suru unconditional luv Well Greece is right next to the Middle East. Turkey is literally right across the water.
Yep, you got third Suru. Hi from Mykonos island. :)
They both use similar scales and share history and influence.
Greek world from the ancient times was influenced by east. There isn't only a Greek folk music , you can find lot's of categories in Greek folk music.
@@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath Yeah Half of Turkey goes with Middle East n the other half with Europe 👍 😊
