I'm so sick of all the "mountain biking is only sending road-gaps or doing back-flips in the air" mentality. I've been mountain biking since the early 90s. It's always been about the journey and traversing nature. It is my escape vehicle from life's ho-hum daily blah. My Xanax to modern society..
I feel you!
Got into mountain biking via hiking not bmx like alot of riding buddies and definitely feel the same way. If I can't make a cup of coffee or take a chill out break mid ride, something went wrong
Man I feel this. When I got into mountain biking, the cool kids rode fully rigid steel framed bikes with only a single gear cassette. Now it’s about spending $6000 on a full suspension trail bike to ride perfectly smooth trails.
Right on that's also why I got into mountain biking. In 91.
@@JerryNelson828 That's when I started! After breaking the forks on an 80's road bike by bunny hopping it over logs! LOL.
Honestly, I don't know why Dustin doesn't have like 200k subbies. This is the best channel on the YT.
Now My heart is full! 🤗
Me either. The cosmos operates in mysterious ways.
Lately I've been binging old DK videos while riding my indoor trainer. So far no Sasquatch. But I'm hopeful!
I'm with you on the "traversing the forest" school of biking. I have the skills for the chunky bike stuff, but I find it too risky for my old bones. Gravel grind the Forest FTW!
Well said!
riding 'party pace'
Exactly what I was thinking. As a 65yo I don't want to do the same stupid stuff I did a couple of years ago causing a severed rotator cuff. Instead of buying a dedicated gravel bike that I might use once a month (no roads near by) , I was looking for a xc bike for the trails near by but take to a gravel event ever so often. The supercaliber seems like the right bike for me. Thanks for the great video.
This review is spot on. I love your honesty and humility. I like jumps, gaps, rock gardens, and the like, but I also enjoy a long cross-country ride. Why limit ourselves? I rode HOspital Hill today and remembered your video... Gotta get back there in a few weeks when the wild flowers are blooming.
I agree, this is what I'd want as well. My Santa Cruz Hightower CC was too much MTB for my riding style and lower capabilities.
I recently added a very similar Canyon Lux Trail to my stable - it also has a triangle that fits a bikepacking bag, but has a bit more travel and a lot cheaper for a given spec (and it does have a dropper post from factory). I love and frankly even on plush rides where a gravel would suffice, this MTB so much more pleasant in soaking bumps. Without knowing I also hit my PB fastest ever times on local trails that I've traversed with a gravel bike many many times. So the right tool for the job IMO - if the terrain gets rough or you plan to ride rooty singletrack, full sus MTB is the way to go!
nice find, but 6 months delay here 😅
This is what mountain biking is at it's core.
🙌🙌🙌
We are on the same page regarding mountain biking. I tried the recent modern geometry MTB bikes and find them sluggish and clunky for the traversing in the woods kind of mountain biking I like, so I opt for my cyclocross bike with 40mm tires. I think an XC hardtail or something like this is next bike for me.
Good lookin out w this review. Just noticed you have doubled your subscribers since I started following, not all that long ago. Congrats
As a dutch flatlander, this bike seems perfect for the "mtb" terrain we have here, which is far from extreme 👌🏾 awesome video once again, keep 'em coming Dustin! 🙏🏽🤘🏽
Marco is the Man!
It’s been on my dream bike list. The rear shock system leaves enough frame space for decent bikepacking capability
I used to own a Trek Fuel Ex (140/130, 66ha) but sold it to get a Supercaliber. I still run a 150 dropper on a L, instead of the lockout. The Supercal is such a blast to ride, even on the North Shore here in Vancouver. Sure I can’t go as fast on the downs as my Fuel, but I can spend the whole day climbing. And then I can double duty smash gravel roads faster than a lot of dropbar bikes.
Great video Dustin. The disconnecting makes for fun riding. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! I’m a grinder coming from mtb and hating my enduro bike now. Looking for a gravel+ and thinking about a power Crossbike maybe from a hardtail. Seen some of your videos in this but how would this SC from Trek perform with a dropbar? 😜
Loved the editing, beautiful place. I still think my fav MTB is my old trusty hard-tail. :D
Great well produced entertaining video man. Im thoroughly impressed and inspired. subbed!
Player you just made my day!
I agree with all of this. Unfortunately I’m allergic to carbon fiber.
Trek had a problem with the fork stopper thing. It was cracking head-tubes from the inside out. They fixed it with a metal insert. Worth checking for damage on bikes you don’t know.
I have the procaliber which is the “hard tail” version of this bike. It’s perfect for long rides on single track that isn’t difficult.
The tree was epic!!! Love the style of that bike too. I think it’d be a blast
Great adventure! Looks like a fun day.
My experience cycling is on fixed, road and rigid mtb. I’ve been considering a 120-150 travel hardtail mtb and never thought I’d want a full suspension. This bike has me interested. But I also want a electric cargo bike soooo I just want all the bikes
I have this very bike. It feels like I hard tale when locked out. Very nice bike.👍🏾
have it a year now. BEST !! It was hard for me to get rid of the hard tail until i found it... but then, Great bikes.
Also check out the Trek top fuel. It's their other cross country/"down country" mtb that's geared more towards the downs. The top fuel has new updated geometry for 2022 that everybody is giving high praises about.
Just wanted to say hey. Enjoy your vids. We appreciate all that you do.
The video editing with the music beats... *chef's kiss*. hits so good.
my man!
Why do xc bike handlebars tend to have less sweep? Flat seems pretty uncomfortable compared just 5-7 degrees or so
Mint vid, bike looks great. Thought you were very lost for a while! 😂😂🏁🏁
I have a Procaliber, it's a rad Downcountry bike.
Did Dustin just invent a totally new bike segment called the Forest Grinder
Yes I have a supercaliber too. Awesome bike. Good video too :-)
I rode this bike and it is one of the best xc bike in the game for me...awesome review btw ;)
Fuck yea. As a mountain biker that bike (yes I have thankfully been on one) is crazy capable downhills. I got way gnarlier on that thing than a hardtail and it was super fun. Sounds like it goes both ways!
I'm seriously considering the Canyon Stoic or Neuron cf/al
3:40 I see what you did there:) Thats living Barry!
The main purpose if I remember correctly of the knock block is to keep the fork crown from striking the bottom of the downtube, which would be a bad thing on a carbon frame.
This makes much sense
Hope you review the new Gen 2 Supercaliber. It has more travel and a dropper post.
Gotta get the ole MTB out for a backwoods adventure. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍
My work here is done!! ❤️
What do use to edit the videos i have Gopro 8 i film in 4k and its a nightmare almost wish i did not buy it
Hi dude what’s the backpack your rocking nice colour 🤙🏼
I wonder how this compares to Niner's full suspension gravel bike
Actually, have been looking at the Super Caliber for exactly what you’re talking about here. Looks like it would be great for exploring the woods here in the Midwest.
You will be stoked!
Loved it!
4:18 Type II fun!!!
I am with you, I am single track rambling kind of guy myself. How does the Supercaliber compare to your Specialized Epic hardtail?
They are very similar to each other
Ridden both bikes, plus the epic full sus. I bought the Supercaliber. Best in my view
I recognize the trails you are on, that was my home turf for a lot of years.
Love that zone!
You had me at "traversing in the woods"
why not slash for open capabilities? :)
What type of gloves are those?
I wonder if they ship to Cyprus
Do you know if Earl has talked to the Pro's Closet?
what's the frame size and how tall are you?
This was a fun video bud🎉🎉
Appreciate you Player!
Nice vid I will stick with my Giant anthem however.
This was just...so great.
I wonder what Kooter McGillicuddy thinks about the Trek Supercaliber. (I realize that isn't his name, but I don't have the energy to dig through the backlog and find his proper name).
What park is this?
Does anyone know what backpack he’s using?
Omg dude you are awesome!👏 greetings from Germany 👊
Hey, thanks PLayer!
Boom… nice one! …. My local bike store is (also) a trek dealer - and they been trying to convince me with one of these …… hmmmm I feel the balance might be tipping
Highly suggest taking one out for a spin at least. I would be very curious to see what you think.
What glasses are those?? Need to know!
Link in description!
What's size fits me? I'm 5'8 1/2 without shoes..I used cleats when I ride
I think you would be fine with Med or Large!
@@EverythingsBeenDone ML will be perfect fit?
"Why buy new when you don't have to?" Because, right now, their used bikes are priced at or near what a new one costs. I can't blame them. They are a business and bikes are still a bit hard to come by.
Im getin the procaliber next week
I am envious!
@@EverythingsBeenDone the specialised creo is the dream bike
Need your eyewear....where can I get?
mi piacciano i tuoi occhiali molto belli e funzionali per riparare gli occhi dalle intemperie...mi puoi dire la marca e dove trovarli?
Cheers!
3:37 man, that reminds me of a tree I hung out in for a day on mushrooms.
I think Surly, Crust or any of the other niche bike brands should hire you to write copy. Your vocabulary would fit right in!
I appreciate you!
Specialized Epic HT w/ PNW Suspension Dropper 💁🏽
Hey man told you this was a perfect mtb candidate for you a year ago, maybe! 💪😅
I’m a late bloomer!
Wow, I don't think I could do that at 4:20pm :D
Easy pick for you any xc hardtail mtb whit 100mm travel Word for you
I’m down!
Nailed it....
He forgot to bring his Garmin, but we still got The Ride by The Numbers. Respect.
Hey, how you smoke (you know what I mean) and then ride;😁 Greetings from Greece mate!
Is Ron to you who Vern is to Ernest.......?
Think I have a new dream bike
Lol. I want to ride there too.
“EBD” is good but “just another middle-aged guy tryin’ a get rad in the woods” has a nice ring to it too. I feel seen.
🤣😂 better together! 💞
Wrong Turn! 😱
📲Shall we Instagram?: bit.ly/DkleinIG
Get rad!
9!
My Man!!
I'm so glad you climbed a tree. And, well, you know.
Loved the Blair Witch vibes
GET RAD!!
Never call yourself middle aged. Until you well into your 40s. Ok player I'm 60 and you're scarring me
what is life expectancy for males in N America? LOL
@@EverythingsBeenDone for Mountain bikers about 35
That thing is gorgeous. It would 100% get me killed though.
LMAO
They say he never made it back. This video was posted by the person who found his gopro :P
Hahhahahahha
What tires? What’s Ron doing...tax return?
Did he just hit a blunt with his bike hanging from a tree
LOL!
Supercaliber is a good XC bike, but the Scott Spark XC, weighs less and has full variable lock suspension. The Trek Supercaliber is just not as capable as the Scott Spark, and is the best way into a capable bike in a wider range of terrain.
Just another middle aged guy trying to get rad in the woods...story of my life
The perfect mountain bike for a gravel rider is a 25 year old mountain bike

nice cop bike
Cmon, those were all gravel/rigid MTB trails. Overkilling it bigly on overpriced FS mtb. However, the video is perfection.
I enjoyed the comfort ride 😉
Sorry but i won’t buy a Cop bike
US $6300?! That’s a hard pass from me
