      @@BenchrestMarksman I have been away from home, I haven't tried to do all the paperwork yet. I got my A and B licence when I was 17 years old, I'm 48 now. In that time I haven't had a visit from the police, to check that I'm doing everything right. I had a really good safe that was bolted into the concrete and it had to locks on it. And I was the only person who had the keys.

    Thanks, buddy. It took me 10 months to wait. I am an ex-military. My mate is not ex-military. He got his in 12 weeks. I am now building my armory.

      No problems at all and yes there is no consistency of timeframes from licensing

    It was 12 months between applying for my license for AB and getting my first firearm.
    License took forever to come and my first PTA took forever too.

    • @BenchrestMarksman

      Yes before the wait times are absently crazy. My licence took 11 months to be approved and two months waiting for my PTA

      That's insane. I applied this year and it took about 7 weeks to be approved. Seems they've significantly improved the time frames for newer shooters, which is nice atleast.

    Same goes for Victoria, the PTA takes around the same timeframe,
    The firearms course is where I found some people get stuck, it’s simple enough to do but if this is your first time doing this without ever even holding a firearm at a range and taking a shot, then it might be a little hard because of the lack of understanding, sort of like learning to drive online but never actually being in a car on the road. I would strongly encourage anyone interested to attend a open day or a event day at the local sport shooting club to learn a thing or two before hand as it will make a huge difference when you do the test. Now days the tests are offered completely online from most reputable firearms dealers.😉

      Thank you very much for your comment and yes I highly agree that people need to go to a Range day at There local club and have an actual go at handling a firearm.

    Hi I'm just wondering do you need a certain amount of land and if you do are you aloud to get a license and store it on a family members property

      Hey thank you very much for your comment and I would highly recommend you contact QLD weapons licensing to discuss your individual license needs (07) 3015 7777 9am to 3pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

    Great content very informative, I’m looking into getting into the sport, I recently did pistol shooting in NSW and fell in love with it but always gravitated towards rifles. My question is what’s the overall start up cost for a beginner once licensed. Cheers

    • @BenchrestMarksman
      @BenchrestMarksman  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much. With a rifle side of the sport it all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to compete in PRS or Benchrest or Silhouettes. The best place is to start is to figure out what you want to do and then build your rifle around that.

    I didn't know my licence had expired, that was several years ago. I was told that I have to do everything again! I haven't ever done anything wrong, and I was wondering lately if I could get my A and B licence back. I only want to target shoot at my local range. Could you please give me some information on getting the licence back? Thank you mate 👍

    • @BenchrestMarksman
      @BenchrestMarksman  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you license expired several years ago you would need to do everything again. For the purpose of target shooting you can use SSAA as a genuine reason to obtain a firearms licence.

    Damn expensive. Look at all those fees. Why do they have all the different categories too, makes no sense. Should be a simple back-ground check then full license (no categories). Australia needs to relax the laws & hoops to obtain. If you're a good guy, have a license. If you're a bad guy, no license.

    • @BenchrestMarksman
      @BenchrestMarksman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes they make it very difficult for anybody honest wanting to get a license

      Makes lots of sense if you are a surviving relative of the Port Arthur or Collingwood mass shootings. We Aussies who remember crazy people shooting innocents for “target practise” tend to have rather long memories and think otherwise!
