That is a fantastic repair job. Unless you are looking at the door jamb, you are not going to notice at all. Your visitors would never know it was repaired. Only a trained eye would notice that - such as a relator or a home evaluation person. Thank you for showing us how it is done. I actually have to repair a gate that has some rotting. posts, it has given me the confidence to do it myself . SO THANK YOU!!
Hi there, great video. A pro tip for everyone. If you own a table saw it is a lot cheaper to make your own door jam, personally i like to use dry treated 2x6, and use a table saw to make the form, sand and prime, install it, paint it, done alot cheaperand last 5 times.
Ive got a similar side door and bought an adjustable height sill cap, but it is weird cause theres an external storm door and like a gap between the storm door and the footer. Havent got into it yet, but Im gonna take pictures and see what advice lowes can give me.
Back in the 70s my Dad would treat any termite wood damage with Chlorodane. The stuff was outlawed. But it sure worked! That area should have been addressed for termite infestation. They are there , and will still keep eating. Just a suggestion….
You should have done something about the termites. You will very likely have additional termites in your house. Just covering the damage they did your door with trim will not make them go away. On another comment YOU ARE GUTTZY, lady, I’m very impressed- Col. Jack
I called a professional exterminator to get the house treated. It cost around $1200 and they applied liquid chemical deep into the soil along the exterior wall of the house.
It's called oscillating multitool, and I put an amazon link to the one I used in the description box below my video. I bought the least expensive one I could find and it worked really well.
Nice video, that oscillating tool sure looks handy. I find it ridiculous that the big box stores don't sell door jamb material with the groove for weather stripping, By The lineal foot. Home Depot has a set of PVC door jam molding to do a complete 7-ft door for $70.00
I don't know if it's different in other Home Depots, but mine has " Woodgrain Millwork 1-1/4 in. x 4-9/16 in. x 85 in. Primed Finger-Jointed Exterior Frame" for $30.
Since I'm not a professional carpenter, I don't know what's reasonable to charge. If someone offered to do it for $150, I would pay them to do it for me. If they charged more, I would just do it myself, recognizing that the qualify of my workmanship would NOT be as nice as that of a professional carpenter.
Your impressive, Very smart...I love your videos. I've watched several so far. Thank you for sharing you r fix experiences. Helps me
Kelly: Kudos to you. Replacing a door jam in winter.

This is a great video. Thank you for showing me how to fix my own. Btw, what did you do about the termite problem?

Repair looks great. But what did you do about the Termite infested wood? Just left it there! Did you treat the Termite?
Yes, I got the house treated professionally for termites.
Can you please give me the name of the tool you used to cut the wood door jam from Amazon.
Thank you

Thanks for that ... they sure do. (not enough for a complete door though - only one side.) Much better deal than the "Boss" door jamb kit.

U should have done something about the termites. U wail definitely have additional termite damage
I got the house treated for termites. 🙂 I hired professionals for that job and wasn't going to follow them around videotaping them.
How much would you have paid since you have an idea what goes involved.., what’s a reasonable price for this job

The was no need to remove the bolt when changing the blade.
