Paul has had an amazing voice for decades. He's toured none stop it seems like with little breaks in-between.. Probably one of the hardest working bands in the world has alot to do with his voice along with other issues that comes with age..

@@thomascavanaugh5895 Paul actually ruined his voice when he played Phantom of the Opera. They had him learn a different technique. I've seen KISS over 75 times with the first being when I was 8 in 1977. There's no way this was Paul live as it sounded great.

I have to disagree with hum ruining his voice with learning to sing differently for Phantom. He sand properly during that run, and that won't ruin your voice. My opinion is when he first had the vocal surgery, he didn't take enough time off. He had the procedure and then was at on tour within that same year. I wanna say 6 mths but I can't remember. He should've taken off a year and then work with a vocal coach to make sure he wasn't damaging his voice. It was weird, I saw him on his solo tour, and he sounded amazing, and then just 2 years or so later he started having serious issues. It just happened so quick. But Paul will never say what was wrong and/or what happened. He keeps a wall up between the public and his personal life.

Paul Stanley is one of my favorite singers of all time. Major vocal problems were evident since at least 2008. By 2018, his voice was basically completely shot. His performance of Love Gun in Barcelona that year is an example. On the 2018 KISS Kruise he started miming to backing tracks. He sometimes sings some of the vocals - such as the first verse of Detroit Rock City. These tracks were then used starting on the End of The Road tour that started in 2019 and continues until December 2023. th-cam.com/video/VPDFQoqLN40/w-d-xo.html

Indeed.I noticed it on the Rock the Nation tour in '04.
A little bit of cracking and a little less power in his vocals than all the previous times I had seen them.
Musically they were SO tight though. And outside. So they played LOUD!🤟🎶
And they played a deep cut on that tour.

Age and mileage have surely played a role, but his voice was as good as ever before Phantom of the Opera and he hasn't been the same since.
I don't know if those vocals damaged his voice, or the training for that style of singing destroyed his natural talent. 🤷 But I don't think it's a coincidence.

If you listen to the early kiss albums and the 80s kiss albums now what I noticed about the 80s kiss albums is that not only are they some of my faveroutes but vocally wise seem a lot more challenging to sing and certainly combine that with the constant touring over the years it has definatly taken a big toll on Paul’s voice but I’ll give him credit up till a few years ago kiss had been doing fantastic shows and you could tell it was live not pre recorded

As far as the lisp, I've noticed that since the '70s. I always attributed it to his microtia and being deaf in one ear. I am no speech expert but I noticed that many hearing-impaired people have a similar impediment. Regarding his voice, his "stage" voice is very different, much higher, than his speaking voice. It must have been a strain over the decades. His recent Motown covers album, where he sings in a more relaxed voice, seems to me to be more in his range, for lack of a better term.

It happens to most musicians, I feel. The only one he was able to preserve his a good majority of his power was Dio. I mean, my favorite vocalist Phil Anselmo, he can barely sing anything from the Pantera days. But thousands upon thousands of shows, coupled with age and distortion/falsetto will do that to you.

Paul does have some hearing issues because he was born with a defect where one of his ears didn't develop properly.

You're working with a singer who was born with one ear. Amazing in its own right that he was able to front a band. The years and his style of singing has just aged and worn his voice to a point that we hear now. Stayed at it too long. There was a time he was in tune and his voice was a perfect example of a great, hard rock voice but that was many years past.

Long story short Paul's voice packed in sometime in 2008. Which is when kiss should have called it a day. I was lucky enough to see Paul's solo tour in Sydney and he blew the roof off the house that night vocally speaking. Now that was Feb 2007. I still remember watching letterman 2009 and it was the first time I became aware his voice was having problems. He was in my opinion the greatest singer in rock before that. I mean he played the phantom in phantom of the opera for 6 months so the guy could once sing opera

To Mr. VOX Singing academy. I wish at the risk of upsetting some of your commentors, that you would clear up once and for all "age" and singing. Many of these apologists here are thinking that a rocker cannot maintain a very high level of singing well into their life. You have soooo many comments that are saying "but he is 70 years old"
I would think it would be your job to straighten these folks out.
So here is a list of rock singer's that are up and some waaaaay up in their years that still bring it.
Tommy Shaw (Styx), Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent Band), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Steven Tyler, Glen Hughes, Tom Johnston (Doobie Brothers), Dennis DeYoung (formerly of Styx), Joe Lynn Turner, Roger Daltry (The Who),

Dude you tour for 50 yrs and see how you sound and also everyone knows about Paul's ear

  • @thomasdonohue1833

The problem with Paul Stanley's voice is he was never a proper singer. Paul was a screamer and he has screamed into a microphone for 50 yrs. Paul never took proper care of his voice and he never used proper singing techniques. Now I know Paul had surgery on his vocal chords but that was because he didn't properly care for his voice. Other singers in his age range don't have problems with their voices because they took care of themselves. Kiss needed to retire about 15 yrs ago.

Thomas, in part you do NOT know as much as you think you do. Paul most certainly DID have proper technique and he gives the credit I believe to SLS Speech Level Singing. It is well known that Paul was a student of SLS of which was Seth Riggs outfit. I recall hearing Paul give credit a LOT to his proper technique as a result of his training with SLS. If I am not mistaken this was around the reunion tour or possibly before but Paul would always get hit with the question of how he kept his voice in such good shape. And the answer would always be the same.

When you are constantly critical of all other bands and even your own band mates. Carma may come to you. Paul has had horrible things to say and I.M.O. he is paying the price. That was a Covid show. Funny they screwed the fans who payed for V.I.P. packages.

In the early days, its said they froze his vocal cords for the show because he'd lose his voice 20 min in to thw show. I've never heard of that being done. I would think that'd hurt more than help. Idk. I think it was Bill Aucoin who said it.

I have seen Kiss a few times and could tell that Paul is not singing 100% of the time. A few times during a show it is obvious, but so what? The band is playing (piano for Beth is the exception) the whole time. Paul sings 95+% of the time. They entertain their fans and give it their all. If Paul lips a little here and there, a) after 50 years he's earned it, b) they want to sound their best, c) still give a kick ass performance, d) so what?

  • @darinski68

You wanted the best and you got the best!
Yes The Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis Hotel & resort, I can confirm 😎. Paul is an entertainer and KISS are a bussiness. Yes a great show if even using two members dressed as ex members, hey it’s all about the brand.
Backing vocals are definitely tracked, I guess Gene and Paul needed that security. Great observations and criticism, all on point, Paul is getting old but he’s still a great front man & that original vocal in the bridge is damn high!
All I can say is, seeing them in ‘96 here in Australia with Ace and Peter was the bomb.
Still, ( and as you stated ) credit must be given for their hard work and quality show, Gene and Paul after all were the ones who started the whole empire that is KISS.
    Thanks Peter.
    👏👏👏👏

Gene is KISS' money making brains......he'd probably has the vision to keep it going like a corporation with new younger members performing the KISS catalogue for the decades to come to carry on with the KISS legacy. BTW after your performance on The Voice you should be elevated to the rank of Sergeant.......I dub thee not the unforgiven.....I dub thee Darren 'Sergeant'. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
