    I'm a 59 year old black woman and sadly, I find that in a lot of black " churches", there is Biblical illiteracy. They focus more on the singing and music but there is little, to no actual Bible study. That is why I appreciate a pastor like Dr.Tony Evans ; he is a TEACHER. I attend a church in the Philadelphia area and the pastor is also a Bible teacher. We study the Bible cover to cover, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. I'm alarmed at how many black people claim to be Christians but when I engage them in an in-depth conversation about the Bible, they give me a blank stare because they have no clue as to what I'm talking about.😮 Not only is it sad, but these so-called " pastors" will answer to God for failing to properly teach their congregations. Ignorance not only makes you a target of the enemy but if you are not truly redeemed, you'll miss heaven and that is the biggest tragedy of all.

      That's a discipleship opportunity. We who are biblically literate should truly be on mission to help other believers understand how to read and study the Scriptures. One believer at a time. Too often, we look poorly upon this without participating in building the body given this dire need in the Church. And it's not just black churches.

      @@KanitaRutley I agree with you. That is why I take the knowledge that I learned from studying under my pastor for the past 29 years and I use every opportunity to tell people the truth of Christ. I've had medical issues my entire life, have been on dialysis for the past 26 years and in 2016, suffered a catastrophic medical crisis that left me in a coma for 3 days. I have always had a passion and urgency to tell people the truth of Christ's saving grace. A childhood friend that was a Christian, sent me some Gospel cartoon books, that tells Bible events in an easy to understand format. I order these books every month and on the back covers, I'll refer the reader to a church or other Biblical resource that is solid and in line with scripture. I've lived in 2 retirement homes and I make it a point of keeping a basket filled with these Gospel books, down in the lobby and the residents tell me how much they love and appreciate them. I hand them out everywhere I go. My original desire was to do missionary work overseas but because of my medical condition, I could not travel. My pastor told me, that everyone who crosses your path, is a mission field. My background was in Marketing, so I look for creative ways to present the Gospel and it's been so much fun. I love "being about the Father's business". ✝️😄 And HE has used me in ways that really blows my mind.

    I, as a Black person, left the Black church for multiple reasons:
    1. Too many political grandstanding, particularly from Democrat politicians. It's true that White churches do the same, particularly from Conservative Republican politicians. Too much activism as well, especially in the sermons they preach.
    2. Too much entertainment, insufficient sound doctrine
    3. Too much charismatic theology which steers me away and have me questioning my faith and salvation. This "name it and clain it" crap has led folks to nothing but catastrophic disappointments.
    4. Too much skin color worship.

    As a black man 'born and raised' in the church, I have come to realize that, even in Christianity (interestingly, if you read Acts and the books after it, you never see the apostles/believers referring to THEMSELVES as Christians, but the term was used by those OUTSIDE to refer to God's people) especially in the black church, it is seen through different 'lenses' depending on the culture. I often wonder how much slavery has affected how the black segment of the human race has viewed God, not whether we believe in Him, but WHAT we believe ABOUT Him.

    The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses-extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Saviour attempted no civil reforms. He attacked no national abuses, nor condemned the national enemies. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and external measures. To be efficient, the cure must reach men individually, and must regenerate the heart.
    Again and again Christ had been asked to decide legal and political questions. But He refused to interfere in temporal matters. Christ stood in our world as the Head of the great spiritual kingdom that He came to our world to establish-the kingdom of righteousness. His teaching made plain the ennobling, sanctifying principles that govern this kingdom. He showed that justice and mercy and love are the controlling powers in Jehovah’s kingdom. {Ellen G White - Counsels for the Church pg 314}
    Christ is our example, and the model in which His church is to follow.

      The true church of God is in the human flesh: if then the church of God is in the human flesh, and Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions and to keep oneself unspotted from the world, James 1:27;
      Then, why is they saying the outside building is called church, and many run to it, and not God in JesusChrist?

    Great topic. I recently told my wife that Christians have more allegiance to culture than Christianity. I have lived in Asia, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and throughout the USA and the dominant culture has always stood out. We have to ask ourselves "why are churches so segregated in America if we all believe in the same Jesus Christ and the same Bible?" Because we put our race and culture ahead of Christianity and the only way that I will accept you is if you assimilate into my culture. So we continue to remain separated. We have even accepted the separation as "normal". Ephesians 4:4-6
    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
    5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
