2:50 "They are a close-knit family" When you're raised in a single mother household where Uncle Sam is the surrogate father and replaces the traditional father, a "gang family" is the next best thing. BRING BACK THE FATHER TO THESE BROKEN FAMILIES!!!!

I was born and raised in Oakland. I went to Fruitvale Elementary, Brett Harte Jr High (when it was still a Jr High), and Skyline Highschool. I am Oakland. I have lived there since 1982 but (finally) moved in January 2024. The city has gone to absolute sh*t and now I avoid it at all cost. Its not home anymore.

my mother, who is 96, was raised in Oakland. This was before the projects were ever built. It was a great place to live and grow up in. She lived on Linton Street and then Orange street. Even through the Depression, it was very family centric, and community minded. Going downtown to shop was a treat. Lake Merritt was abuzz with families enjoying their time together. Did they have crime? Not much… but yes, some. By the 1950’s, the idea of the projects was taking hold and being built. Families began to move away from Oakland as the crime rate rose. Fast forward to the 1970’s. Oakland was a dangerous place to live in or even drive thru. 98th Ave was scary. Many family run Business had left the downtown which by the 1970’s was a filthy mess. Who did this to the City? The Citizens.

Wild. So rare to hear from A black that was here before 1938. How COOL! I am 52 and been in Bay almost my whole life and Palo Alto was very different but always chill. I think the whole section 8 philosophy has gutted our beloved Bay Area. The massive influx of unskilled workers that we drew from the south in WW2 was the single biggest disaster we ever did. I just keep hearing over and over the last generation of blacks w "American values" are dying. No more two parent households... Crack babies are real and we have crackcrackbabies now and w my best friend on Sunnymere above Fruitvale... Its destroyed. 510... never coming back

Straight to the concert no wondering around. Fruitvale was known then for being a bad area (worst then Oakland). Now l can imagine how much worst it has gotten.
