I can't speak to the comic art collector side of things, it's a whole other world from me as a comics fan and creator, but Transformers had some solid comic runs with the Wrecker trilogy (my personal favorite being Last Stand of the Wreckers) and More Than Meets The Eye (MTMTE). They explored many aspects of the world of Transformers that many writers and artists seemed to be too timid of shy to dive into. Again, to each their own on what happened prior, but I definitely had fun with what was coming up before.
That said, it's exciting to see DWJ kick off a whole new chapter of Transformers comics. It's fresh and will put a jolt of excitement in for the books that I do agree had been missing that allspark. 😉 DWJ does in fact have the touch, and now has the power to transform these stories into something thrilling for a whole new generation.
