Vian is a kind of cult figure in Argentina, my country. Not only his books were translated and published for decades but there was even a famous culture magazine called "With V of Vian" in the nineties. I figure this odd fact would really liked Boris Vian!

I was strongly suspecting the author to be a Black American expatriate living in France, Terry -- kind of like Josephine Baker did, and bestselling novelist Frank Yerby did for a time.
