I sometimes wonder how a choir can sing such music and not get choked up by the sheer emotion of it. The third movement is so impossibly beautiful and sad.
I sang this at my cathedral two years ago on All Saints. Trust me, there was silently weeping after we were done on the final cadence. And I wasn't the only one.
I sang this when I lived in chicago a couple years ago with an excellent group that exists up there. So sad to have had to leave a group which did material like this so well, but life goes on.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for posting this utterly gorgeous piece of music. i have only recently discovered H.H, especially his Hymnus Paradisi. Beyond words really. It affects you at a much more profound and deeper level than everyday listening. Sublime and incredibly moving. What a talent he was and yet he is not mentioned in the same breath as EE, BB, RVW, GF, etc. He bloody well should be!!!!!!!
Fantastic! Absolutely! Hail to Conspirare Austin Texas wit Craig Hella Johnson and the Compay of Voices!..a Harmonia Mundi recording, 8-20 October 2005 at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, New York
What a performance!! This beautiful piece of music is very difficult to sing. I'm looking forward to performing it in Lyon, France, in November. I humbly hope we will do a decent job.
Such exquisite beauty and so sensitively sung, a fusion of great composition and choral expertise
Thanks for this marvelous upload... It drives me to tears and serenity. Howells was a genius...
Third movement sends shivers down my spine, it's so good. I'm starting to imagine myself conducting it and getting caught up in the emotion of it.

A stunning performance by truly great artists.
Such a beautiful piece from the first note to the last.
I did this with West Village Chorale (NYC) and loved it. What a beautiful recording this is.
+Warren Moore I'm always very jealous of anyone who is able to participate in performances of such incredible music!
