  • In this video Alexis brought Jelly Roll, Son of a Sinner. This was my first time hearing of him and his music and wow! I was shocked! He has a very warm voice with power and soul.
Fresh off his big win at the CMT Music Awards this song has been gaining a whole new audience. His sound is a great blend of country, gospel and even a little reminiscent of Aaron Lewis from Staind.

Jelly Roll has been making music for a long time like 10-15 years. He used to do rap, then moved, to country rap, now country/blues/gospel. He used to deal drugs and was incarcerated for a good while. Hence his face tattoos and his gold and silver teeth. He's also recently, within the last few years going from country rap to country gained a lot of weight, but I'm sure that's because he's gained some wealth and has a very loving wife who gives him practically anything he wants. She is his queen and him her king.

He just sold out the Ryman in Nashville and all the process went to a music program for that same juvy jail he was in. @@flickeringboxofficial jelly has released rap albums and mixtapes for like 20 years or so going back to this street days when he was selling drugs. After having kids and serving 18 months in prison he turned his life around for his kids and the fact that he had two convictions in Tennessee which is a three strike state. He had an underground following but he really blew up when he decided to make more mature and meaningful music when he embraced the independent country rap garnered which was blowing up in the late 2010s which is when I first heard of him. He was selling thousands of tickets each show as a completely independent artist who was never played on the radio. Jelly Roll is great. His life and how he turned it around and the success he’s found is an amazingly inspirational story. Even more amazing is how humble and authentic he’s remained and gives back to the community he came from. Musically his lyrics are outstanding and he’s able to bridge country, rap, and rock in a way that is not at all gimmicky. The different types of music are just in his soul. I was able to see jelly roll in concert and cried like a baby because that’s how deeply the music touches you!! He’s a big believer that just because you went down the wrong road that doesn’t mean you can’t come back better than before!!!
