  • The saddest movie ever made!--'Nights Of Cabiria' (1952)--Film analysis of Fellini's 1952 comedy drama starring Giulietta Masina. Giulietta Masina’s performance in The White Sheik that inspired Fellini with the idea to make Nights Of Cabiria, a film that owes its gritty look to a style borne out of a post World War II film movement called Italian neorealism.
    In 1958, Nights of Cabiria received an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Giulietta Masina also received a Best Actress Award for the film at The Cannes Film Festival in 1957.

      I love Fellini and this amazing film. Masina should be mentioned among cinema's elite actresses. Truly heartbreaking ending. They just don't make many films like this anymore with the movie franchise mentality that's running amuck nowadays. Sad. Thanks for checking out the video!

      The Godfather Of Cinema Not only did I rewatch Nights of Cabiria, I was inspired to rewatch Black Narcissus and Seventh Seal after going through your playlist! It’s always great to get a fresh take on a great movie. I look forward to more of your film analysis!

      @@rosestone5091 I am glad that my take on these films enabled you to enjoy them all over again. These movies are great because you can always discover in them something fresh. Right now, I'm editing INTERSTELLAR and it'll be up in a few days. After that, I'll be putting up A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and after that maybe MIDNIGHT EXPRESS or something else, maybe THE ELEPHANT MAN. Any suggestions?

      @@godfatherofcinema Great! I rewatched Kubrick's filmography last month. I just watched Sergei Eisenstein's IVAN THE TERRIBLE. Besides the symbolism, I'd be interested in your take on whether the film fulfills Stalin's propagandist goals (likely to justify his authoritarianism) OR whether Eisenstein was subtly creating a caricature of Stalin?

    • @godfatherofcinema
      @godfatherofcinema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Ivan the Terrible in my collection but I have to rewatch it again and I love battleship Potemkin though one of my favorites if you have not seen it you should see heart of darkness a documentary on the making of Apocalypse now that is as compelling as the actual film

    Thank you for this outstanding, informative and entertaining review of Nights of Cabiria
    Would you please consider doing a review of the 1967 movie The Incident and the 1977 movie That Obscure object of Desire ?
    These are two underappreciated and unheralded movies which have very powerful messages...
    Thanks again for your fine work .

      The Godfather Of Cinema I thought The Tree of Life was one of the best films of the decade. If you haven’t watched it before, watch the theatrical cut. (I haven’t seen the extended alternate cut, and the director has said the theatrical cut is the definitive version of the film).

    • @godfatherofcinema
      @godfatherofcinema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardsreviews8820 I saw that film when it first came out and at that time I did not like it; however, almost 40% of my favorite films are those I did not like on the 1st viewing. I know that Criterion adopted it so I will definitely give it a second look as it did remind me of Koyaanisqatsi, another abstract film I plan on doing. Any other films you would like to see me cover?

    • @godfatherofcinema
      @godfatherofcinema  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardsreviews8820 I will definitely have to see it again. Do you have the Criterion and if so how is the picture and sound quality compared with the regular DVD which I have?

    • @richardsreviews8820
      @richardsreviews8820 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Godfather Of Cinema I got the criterion from my library. I assume the dvd will be good since the movie is only from 2011, so I don’t think the criterion did any restoring the movie. They mainly worked on the alternate cut which I haven’t seen. I think the dvd should be good.
