BTH KC2 magneto - repairing a damaged thread in aluminium

  • I have a pair of new (made in 1936 but never used) BTH KC2 magnetos for a JAP J99 engine. Both have been serviced and bench test well but one has a damaged thread in the alloy body. I fashion a cost effective (cheap) permanent repair.

    That was a great repair. I remember doing something similar on a outboard motor once.

      Thanks! It's certainly better than a helicoil and cost nothing to produce.

    Wouldn't it have been so much easier to use a Helicoil. They are made in all the standard sizes.

      Of course, but that wouldn't have been half as enjoyable. It would also have meant spending money better spent elsewhere. My repair was ideal.
