    So if I heard that correctly each barrel was worth $1800. If that warehouse had been full of TV sets, or other electronics valued at half that price per unit there would have been a security guard, or at the very least a security patrol and alarm system. If something has value it has the potential to attract thieves. And I didn't like the way that guy being interviewed answered the question "was the Federation involved in the theft," either. Something about his body language just made me suspicious. I'm no expert on that sort of thing, but I've had kids that looked the same way when they lied. It's possible he was turning a blind eye to it to collect on the insurance in addition to a little cash on the side.

      They must have figured who would steal maple syrup and who would buy it from them? they probably just didn't think that somebody would be able to profit off of it so much that it would be a viable thing to steal hence the lack security procedures

    • @tommybear1097
      @tommybear1097 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob Robert
      I think it was more of a logistics issue that they relied on as being a deterrent. Each barrel weighs upwards of 600lbs and it would take some serious manpower to manhandle these things into trucks or vans. They put a lot of faith in their employees and entrusted that they wouldn't or couldn't coordinate such a theft. The federation obviously didn't see much risk in storing these in a warehouse where a fence was the only form of protection. Maybe they were in on it, maybe they had suspicions and turned a blind eye because of debts owed/extortion, or maybe they were paid to turn a blind eye and they were expecting an insurance check so they didn't really worry. Then again they could have stolen their own product and moved it to an undisclosed warehouse where it would be hidden in an attempt to collect an insurance check while they slowly move the "stolen" product back into rotation or sell it off in small sales that wouldn't be deemed suspicious. The reality is that we may never know what truly happened but it does seem as though they relied too heavily on these barrels being 600lbs and a logistical nightmare that your every day criminal wouldn't have been able to move or house, nor would they be able to facilitate that large of a sale.

  • @WJack97224
    @WJack97224 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The "Federation" is opposed to the free market and uses force to impose its dictates. So, by creating such "laws" there is built-in the attractiveness for crime and the black market. In short, "The Federation" facilitated the criminal activity by fixing the market for syrup. America has made this mistake with alcohol and drugs, prohibiting their uses and in both case they have led to massive crime/robberies/murders. This is not to excuse the maple syrup thieves but their evil was facilitated by "The Federation." Best to let the market decide prices or value of goods and services and the government should not intervene. The competition from the US is of course the punishment for the dictatorial power of "The Federation." The Federation is a form of legalized crime empire and it must be terminated.

    An event about molasses.
    Boston Molasses Disaster or the Great Boston Molasses Flood.
    Sometimes referred to locally as the Boston Molassacre, occurred on January 15, 1919, in the North End of Boston.
    A large storage tank burst, filled with 2,300,000 US gallons.
    (8,700 m3; 8,706,447 liters)
    (12,000 tons; 10,886 metric tons;
    24,000,000 (lbs) of molasses.
    A wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150.
    The event entered local folklore and residents claimed for decades afterwards that the area still smelled of molasses on hot summer days.
    The humanity the humanity.

Maybe you should have hired a security guard oh yeah that would cost us money and we are so cheap and greedy even at $1800 a barrel that we just left it there. Well someone knew it was there unguarded and viola it's gone. Breaks my heart.

  • @Dwightstjohn-fo8ki
    @Dwightstjohn-fo8ki 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    a few years ago we had an ice storm that literally destroyed orchards in Quebec. that's why you have/introduce "supply chain" management. decades ago our homesteads were no where near the markets: corn, beef, chickens, horses, grains....that's why these systems were so good. roads in Canada were a muddy disaster just a few decades ago. However, static control should be progressive and not afraid to change, but you end up with lifelong employees that are happin with no change.

    Sounds like the federation is losing ground. I don't think it will last for long, but Quebec is known for creating hurdles. The black market exists everywhere, but it is definitely high in Quebec. There's no way that somebody would leave 30M without security... little shops on the market with 5,000$ of merchandise have at least a security system. For the ones in the USA thinking they can take the market... remember that there's a lot of maples that are not tapped here too... You guys don't accept that there's a climate change which changes the whole thing for the future of maple syrup in the USA. One if not the biggest producer has 162,000 maples and the season is longer here and the demand for the real maple syrup is from Canada not Aunt Jemima from the USA. I had Vermont syrup and it's very similar and instead of working against one another it be an advantage to not to fight. Good show / report thanks.

I suppose if you have a taste for it that could be true. And it most certainly is true when you compare it to the artificial stuff that is mostly corn syrup with colors and maybe some flavoring. But I have recently had some maple syrup that was made here in the USA, contains no corn syrup, has no artificial flavors/colors, and tastes quite wonderful. I had some with homemade French toast for Christmas breakfast just yesterday.

    As a Vermonter, I'm always sad to see the sugar trucks heading north for the Quebec border... the Canadians use our sugar as part of their scheme to control syrup prices and I think thats ultimately a form of monopoly... our syrup producers may enjoy the higher prices they can demand from our puny local stock (sold mostly to tourists because locals tend to have friends with sugarbushes who sell them the best dark amber at fair prices) but then Canada can flood the market any time they want and then what?

      Then we don't buy, we control the prices, take a year off and eat something else and see what happens. The people have power if they choose to wield it. There are other types of syrup one can make due with for a year or two, or forever if need be.

    Wisconsin set worldwide cheese prices for decades....they didn't scam the little farms and it worked for everyone as far as I know. Why can't the Canadians do it right for their own syrup producers?

    I cant think of another single industry where growers are legally forced to supply only one wholsesaler. Essentially its legalised price fixing which in my country is illegal. And then they wonder why theres a huge blackmarket.
    If i make or grow a product or item i will sell it to whoever i want at whatever price i want.

    Why would no one think people would steal maple syrup exspecially if its real canadian maple syrup ? Real canadian maple syrup is way better than any of the fake syrup we get in stores here in the US and its also really exspensive just to get a small bottle of it shipped to the us cause it has to go through the border and therefore goes through customs also
