    The BEST version there is! Outstanding, Stokowski!

    Absolutely marvelous. If I have to lay forth my honest opinion, Bach's genius shows best through orchestra. On keyboard, whilst syntactically and theoretically still spectacular, in a musical and emotional sense, it does not get communicated as effectively as through a full romantic orchestra. At the risk of sounding redundant---this is just my humble judgement.
    Anyway, thanks for uploading, and great thanks to Stokowski for the arrangement!

      I completely agree. The fraudulent and sophistic "authentic" movement of the 20th century, as well as the academic Modernists, completely disagreed, but they are in the past or fading fast. The 21st century has seen Romanticism come back into performance where it belongs, from what I've seen and heard. The great Richard Taruskin no doubt played a role in shifting the culture back on this matter!

    My favorite FANTASIA progame un that one there's only masses of colour or great landscapes or Vague Shadows or geometrical objects floating in space or whatever there's in this FANTASIA PROGAME.

    It's good that there is no acceleration in the middle of the fugue (as in most performances)!

    At 3:34 this tune what reminds me is of that scene of Howard hughes taking his XF-11 prototype aircraft to the runway for it's first and final flight from the movie the aviator

    Do you know where I can get Stokowski's scores? I'd love to study his orchestration.

      That's funny, just before I read your comment I was thinking the exact opposite. The orchestra version is much more beautiful to me than the overly grandiose organ. Thank you for uploading this video Bartje Bartmans.

    • @OdinComposer
      @OdinComposer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha me too. The organ gets too much reverb and cluttered sound for complex bach peices. This suits it much better imo.

      Odin G.S I agree: I think the same would hold true for an orchestral version of his passacaglia in C minor

  • @rustydog1236
    @rustydog1236 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You must realize that JS Bach almost certainly did NOT write this.

    • @bartjebartmans
      @bartjebartmans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not certain at all. It is undecided. No proof he did write it, no proof he didn't write it. So yes, JS Bach until proven wrong as the manuscript score by Ringk is the closest to the source as we can get.

      @hudebnilidlprodukce5137 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this period of History we do not almost anything for sure, when it Come to music. On of bach's son took bach's pieces after his death And made them look as his so we can not tell.

    • @jjgeoffphhcinkkllee
      @jjgeoffphhcinkkllee ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly true of many Bach works actually but oh well. It really doesn't matter WHO wrote things if they are great and beloved. The Shakespeare skeptics have proven the same point

    • @jjgeoffphhcinkkllee
      @jjgeoffphhcinkkllee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hudebnilidlprodukce5137 Indeed! Even in recent times, such as with Charles Ives' scores, we are in doubt concerning the dates of many scores, given Ives' possible falsifying of scores to appear more progressive earlier, thus "beating" the Europeans. Stravinsky is one of the most uncertain of all, not concerning his music but just his whole life, given his almost pathological lying about himself haha
