Nice video! My setup is Synthstrom Deluge OLED, Linnstrument 128, Hydrasynth Desktop, Behringer ARP 2600, Empress Zoia, Novation Mininova and a Nord Stage 3. I use a Midas MR-18 to connect all the audio. I only use it to make music for myself, usually never finish anything, just having fun. The Deluge is the only thing I for sure will NEVER sell. And if it breaks I'll buy another one.
Have to agree. The deluge really is something special! Def my favorite and most important piece as well. How do like the Linnstrument? It looks super fun to play!
@@oaklandghosts0510 The Linnstrument is propably the next to last thing I will sell... 😄 It's really shines when you play using MPE with really expressive instruments working filters and other parameters with the Y-axis and aftertouch as well as creating nice vibratos on the X-axis. And slides can be really fun as well. Just an awesome synth controller. In some occations I definitely prefer using the Nord as a regular midi keyboard but Linnstrument sits just on the right side of my Deluge for a reason! 🙂

Great run-down Ryan! I've had the Model 12 for a while now, and just got the Deluge this spring. Being more of a keys player, I run my Korg SV2 and Minilogue XD into the Tascam, then sub out to the Deluge, then back into the Tascam for monitoring. I agree so much with you about the Deluge, totally changed the way I make music, and the immediate workflow, all the amazing features + the new community features, you really don't need anything more to make full tracks with, and you can just use it anywhere as it is so portable...
Any channel that raises my G.A.S. deserves a sub ;-) thanks for your talk, I am a hybrid music maker using DAWs and hardware like modular and semi-modular, and always wondering about my next move. I hope I can pick your brain some more in the future.
Just got a Deluge Oled and I love it. Before that the only groovebox kind of thing that gelled with me was the circuit tracks. I tried the digitakt and the sh-4d, and both weren’t to my tastes, or at least not as intuitive. I definitely think gear choice is very personal, and that is the fun part of gas. Trying all this different stuff and seeing what is the most fun and intuitive to oneself. I’ve got a lemon drop and it is super fun to mess around with, but I’ve yet to make anything with it. It almost dominates the soundscape a little too much, lol.
Ya the lemon drops a weird one. Admittedly, if I got rid of a piece it’d probably be the first to go. I’ve found it’s def one where you gotta kinda start with it and build around. It’s much harder to add it later for sure. But I have made some pretty rad tracks with it and I can def get lost in it just goofing around. Nothing beats the deluge tho. It’s so awesome and so versatile!
4:58 - What you want is distortion-per-voice, usually applied with the filter's overdrive. Moog does this with almost every synth, that's what gives them the 'sound'. Some cheap synths can pull it off, like the SonicCell but most modern synths either omit it or just implement 'good enough' filter saturator, which usually does not give you the epic growl of the synts from the 70s and 80s.
@@oaklandghosts0510 Sadly, the SonicCell is hopelessly outdated and is more of a performance module. But there are some really cool synths out there that have really nice filter drives, like Matrixbrute and some of the Novation's stuff.

Zoia and Microcosm are on my shopping list... however, I'm opting to buy Microcosm first (I like to play with ambient sounds). Currently, my main effect pedal is Zoom MS-70CDR. 5. The idea to not overlap other instruments? Yes... of course! However, very often the definition of "overlapping" is so different and flexible... so it's hard to avoid it. 6. Three oscillators in an analog synth? Yes, yes, yes! I also wanted to try it... but in a less expensive instrument than the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga. I have more instruments than inputs in my mixer (8 inputs in Flow 8), so to efficiently switch between a few more instruments I use a patchbay (PX2000 from Behringer). 2. Arturia 49 Key Analog Experience The Laboratory - because sometimes you want to record to Deluge some longer, more organic sounds that come from your heart... and it's built like a tank! 3. nice. I use a Hapax - but I need multiple midi outs. Hapoax has 1 Din in and 3 out - plus 2 USB ins/outs as well as CV ins and outs (I dont use those). With that I get 48 midi channels in and 80 out. Why? I use a Fantom from a USB out (so thats 16 channels already lol) a virus Ti2 on another (so another 16), a TR8s (I use this by a 3rd midi out so I can have one sound per channel if I like - or all on a single one). Apart from the synths mentioned - I then run an MRCC midi patch bay to a Sequential Prophet6, Oberheim OBx8, Moog Muse, Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave, and a Waldorf Iridium (keys for the polyphonic aftertouch). Mixer wise, I use a digital mixer Rack mixer (Presonus 32 Rack)- so if I need to actually change mix levels I do need a PC or tablet open but everything routes directly to my mixer if those are off. As an aside I utilize a Fractal Axe-FX3 not only as a guitar processor - but 2 lines of hardware FX..... Oh - I have a Roland RD2000 for pianos if I need lol. Its not a cheap set-up...........
@@oaklandghosts0510 I like Muse. I didnt have any Moog flavour as I dont gel with monos. The Osc arnt as beefy as monos - but then polys arnt in general or it gets messy as they overload the mixer in poly mode. It does have the Moog sound even if its "Moog lite". Couple of issue they need to sort out - keybed scanning rate needs increasing to sort velocity inconsistencies, and the FX are prone to crackles if the mixer OP is too hot. Both of those are FW fixable though so hopefully they wont take too long to fix them.
V cool upload...............I have a DAWless set up with a Deluge....I love my Deluge because, as you say, it keeps getting better.......I do have one big complaint: especially with the new Community Firmware, lots of times, I don't have enough processing power for even some simple set ups. I have a regular gig @ a Gong Sound Bath .....so people are laying on the floor with eyes closed, listening....... I just use it for samples, (rain, wind, birds, waves, etc.) and many times, I have my notes cut off, because it can't keep up with what I'm playing back (long samples).....very frustrating, because it's live, improv and people are paying attention................Great upload, love the info, and especially your gear choices................................
Totally agree with you 💯! In some ways, in my experience, the community firmware has improved a lot of memory/CPU management.. but my biggest gripe with the deluge as someone who really tries to push it - is that it feels a bit underpowered. I would absolutely by a version with more cpu/memory! Cheers!
Deluge + model D + Hydrasynth is the perfect setup for my needs. I just adore the deluge, so easy to transfer daw knowledge to it. You can dig into the endless ableton tutorial production tips and apply their concept to the deluge most of the time.
Nice! I’ve almost pulled the trigger on the model D a few times. Sound so so good! The Deluge is such a perfect gateway for anyone coming from ableton or any DAW really. I love that it’s simple im and intuitive on the surface so you can jump right in, but incredibly deep if you wanna go down the rabbit hole! Cheers!
I Just found you're channel, excellent work, I so appreciate anyone who delves into the Deluge, I virtually have the same set up as you, except mixer, speakers I have a Vestax fader fox (fx on this machine are the best) and a spectralis 2, Shruthi XT. 🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑
@@suzannealdridge1404thank you! And welcome!! You’ve got some rad synths in the quiver.. the spectral is and the shruthi look awesome! How was the learning curve??
@@oaklandghosts0510 Spectralis is deep, and you have to put away a few days, just like the Deluge, to get you're head around it, it sounds amazing synth wize, from sweet ambient, to grinding hip hop, pro sounding, Phat, deep, 8 synth outs, ins, a Beast. Shruthi XT s instantly hands on, tons of great presets to jump off on, gritty, gnarly, slighty thinner digital sounding, more like a euro rack synth... I have a few smaller Struthis but without all the knobs of the Struthi XT, their a bit boring, bug I hook em all up by MIDI using the XT as the main controller, it's rip roaring, I have the SSL Six desk, Adam full spectrum speaker set up.
Very cool setup! I might need to make a video about mine as well. I was in the box, stopped making music because I kept getting sidetracked on the computer and had screen fatigue, then got a Deluge and Virus Ti2 (16 parts of multitimbrality = 16 discrete synths in one), was gifted a Microfreak , got a digital mixer, a Zoom CDR multistomp and TR-8, and am now slowly introducing the DAW back in for FX and recording/arranging.
Dude I feel you. I don’t think I even realized how much I was feeling that distraction and just dislocation working on my computer. I do like using my DAW for FX on some things. Having a hybrid mixer that allows for that is awesome. And def still use the daw for final mix and master- although I quite like arranging on the deluge too. Heard a lot of great things about the virus. Would love to see how you have it set up! And the micro freak makes some amazing sounds! Cheers man!
If you can handle 8 inputs (excluding USB ones) the Zoom R20 is a nice compact option too. And an interesting alternative to the Zoia are the Mod Dwarf/Mod Duos (although you do need a computer (web browser) to edit the patches).
Oooh the mod dwarf looks awesome! That wasn’t even on my radar. Very cool! And the Zoom R20 is a great and more affordable alternative to the Tascam Model 12. Especially with the built in synth engine…
Haha. Or Reason V1! I think hybrid is the way to go. I’m not fully DAWless and don’t really see the point of fully abandoning a DAW. I just find I use it more as it was originally intended these days- as a recording studio basically. Still leaps and bounds better for final mix/master and adding instruments beyond my electronic stuff (like guitar, bass, drums, etc) but I do like the freedom of building tracks outside my DAW just goofing around on various instruments.
@@oaklandghosts0510 lol I started with Reason 3 which I was instantly fascinated with. Yeah DAWs are useful especially for constructing, mixing, and mastering songs/ albums, but for instant unleashing of creativity hardware is the simply undeniably the way to go.
There hapax is rad. Totally amazing sequencer. Probably the best for just that - but it overlaps too much with the Deluge so i don’t need both. Thanks! Watched it last night.
nice setup!
I like it! Cheers.
That is a monster setup my guy! Awesome! How do you like the Muse??
Cheers!
Nice, I just bought the Hydrasynth Desktop and have owned the Deluge for years...😊
I Just found you're channel, excellent work, I so appreciate anyone who delves into the Deluge, I virtually have the same set up as you, except mixer, speakers I have a Vestax fader fox (fx on this machine are the best) and a spectralis 2, Shruthi XT.
🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑
@@suzannealdridge1404thank you! And welcome!! You’ve got some
rad synths in the quiver.. the spectral is and the shruthi look awesome!
Cheers man!
very rational choices. also one of the few english speakers on youtube who know how to pronounce 'et cetera'. kudos.
@@LRonHubbard-um1tp 😂 thank you!
Hybrid for the win
💯
this dude is John C. Reilly's son
😂😂😂 🤫
Everyone is so DAWless now I feel like the non-conformist thing to do is stay is pull up Fruity Loops with only stock plugins again
Yeah DAWs are useful especially for constructing, mixing, and mastering songs/ albums, but for instant unleashing of creativity hardware is the simply undeniably the way to go.
what no hapax?
There hapax is rad. Totally amazing sequencer. Probably the best for just that - but it overlaps too much with the Deluge so i don’t need both. The deluge is a pretty incredible sequencer as well but it’s also so much more. Of course, if you don’t need the extra stuff the deluge brings to the table.. the Hapax is a great choice!
@@oaklandghosts0510 i have owned both and hapax wins hands down. deluge is better at arrangement and has a pretty nice sampler. but if you want to truly animate your gear, hapax is unbeatable. its the best hardware sequencer ive bought in 35 years of buying hardware sequencers. including cirklon, oxi one, elektrons and mpcs. i did love jjos2xl tho!. theyre all pretty nice of course!
i have 10k subs, no one sends me anything.
Not to discourage, just being honest. Music is a weird buisness model (if you really want to go for that route). And I have been doing this stuff for ehm... quite some years now.
I mean.. I’ll take free gear if someone sends it but Na, I was just making a joke cuz everyone on the Internet seems to think anyone who shares their passion for making music or playing with gear is an industry shill. lol
I’m not tryna make this a career. I’ve got one. I spent most of my 20s and 30s in the industry as an artist and have no desire to swim in that pool again. I started making music again cuz I love it and for no other reason. I think I’d like to keep it that way. But I certainly don’t mind sharing my passion and hopefully inspiring people out there to make stuff!
Props to anyone making their way in this cutthroat business! Love your channel btw. I started messing around in reason v1 when it first came out in the very olden days on one of those old ass first generation candy imacs. Made some really cool stuff back then…
Cheers!
Subbed just so “they” can send you gear to review.
😂 thanks dude! A boy can dream… 😂😂😂
Very weird of you to rip off the logo of ghostly international
Did anybody tell you that they cared? No, they did not.
😘
No, you didn't. Saved everyone a waste of 13 minutes.
I mean.. I do say right up front at the very beginning that MY ultimate setup is likely not YOUR ultimate setup 🤷♂️
What does your ultimate rig look like? I’d love to hear it!
