On one of my early trips I booked a tour package from BKK to Angkor Wat... Was supposed to be a big tour, etc, etc... When I got to Siam Riep... Found I was the only one on the tour... so a completely private tour... The tour guide, let me determine where/when/how much time per site/etc... along with going to places not normally visited... Was one of my highlite trips NEVER to be repeated (Siam Riep will never be the same again)... Never took a big tour ever again... Now a days, way too many tour groups, way too many Chinese zero cost tours, etc... avoid like the plague...
Memories are one of the few things that last forever and way longer than money !! I've had many unique experiences in life, and one I'll never forget or regret as far as hiring a private tour and then even having the ability to extend and Modify it, was the 1st time to Thailand in 03 with 4 other guys and rented a classic Thai 60ft double deck boat for 2n/3days hong caves in the bay off phutket with all the trimmings, extra was the 3bs(beer,buds,babes(picked up new ones,babes, on day 2 when refueling,since we added another day/nite( not me, I had the best !). Incl., kayaking day/nite into bat caves, swimming, middle of hong(island), snorkel, fishing, more smoking 😊, camping equip (cabin xtra $5),3 meals,deserts, etc etc etc. It was all so Cheap whete as ive pissed away more on a ,wish I didn't and forgetable nite ! Sorry for the rant, great flashbacks ! Thanks
Sometimes it's worth it to pay a little extra for a private tour experience. The mass group tours in Phuket average $100 US so paying 150pp for 4 is a deal especially in terms of the quality of the experience!
For every crowded Maya Bayz Thailand has a hundrednother beautiful and hardly visited places. I can't stand the crowds, lived in Krabi for 2 years and never bothered going to Phi Phi Islands.
That sounds like a much better way to go.
Uncle Ramze definitely knows how to vacation. Doing these more private and exclusive excursions are the way to go if you can afford it.

Once took a big and slow boat off Koh Chang and learned the hard way the lesson you’re telling us here. Never again for me.
The big organized tours are a once only deal, if you go back again then you’re a glutton for punishment 😊😊

Pretty cheap to hire a private van/taxi with driver as tour guide for a small group.
