I think it would help you a lot with your general "feel" if you watched a quick video on how to hold the pick properly. Really great stuff over just a year though; please keep going and posting your progress along the way!

@@hPnpeeble oh yeah the first few months are the hardest and most frustrating, once you push past the like 6-8 month mark things get easier and more fun. I've gone back to songs I tried playing the first couple of months and its so much easier.

If I was you, Marty Music is definitely a channel to see. His pentatonic scales are magnificent! You should probably start learning the basics so you can go from there. Happy Learning K!

The more you practice the better you play what you put into it is exactly what you’re going to get out of it I notice some of you played better than others some of you practice more more dedicated. I should know this I’ve been playing guitar for almost 50 years I started in 1974 I’m 70 years old and still play and love every moment of it, don’t try to do things that are too advanced for you. Don’t be confused by too many teachers, pick one teacher and stick with that learn to read music and chord, charts learn every now on the fingerboard of a guitar learn as much as you can and then when you’re ready to play songs, then you can read music and you can play anything you want to keep going. Yes, even at 70 I still find myself playing. No less than four or five hours a day sometimes even more. There’s no arthritis in my fingers. I’ve been reading music since 1984 picked up a guitar the first time in 1974 at the Ride job ripe old age of 22 ha ha. I am a solo instrumental, guitarist And I love it. I think guitar playing is beautiful you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Do you wanna play cheater Cords? My advice is don’t do it when you need other fingers to reach other notes and you’re playing cheater court there’s no way you can do it. I’ve learned a lot over the years whether you’re a new at this or have some time into it stick with it you’ll love it I do. Dang, I love watching these kinds of videos, it’s truly inspirational. I absolutely love how the paths that guitarists take vary so much. We are all taking a different road at varying speeds, but we all have that one love for the instrument. ( I’m 15 now and have been playing for about 3-4 years now and have absolutely fallen in love with the guitar) I began playing acoustic and recently picked up a classical. Near the beginning I always wondered how people got so good so fast while I sounded so bad 😅. But it’s a different road, and has its own pace. I always had the mindset that I was walking up a slope and that when I get to the top, I’d finally be free on the neck. But it really isn’t that way at all. It’s more like carving a sculpture. We have all the ability and skill already to begin with. It’s all there, in the block, like Michelangelo carving out David. Our block is just waiting for us to chip away at it, and refine our David if you will. Your doing an incredible job and most importantly enjoying the ride. Keep it up, and press on! Who knows what incredible things and opportunities lay upon your path.

I may be late but this l noticed. It's obvious you have talent. Just work hard take time away to play an see where it leads you. Just don't quit always try for something new . Keeps your mind fresh an learning.
I like to recommend to any body learning guitar to not neglect acoustic. You practice that for a a while and go back to electric and its gonna be a whole new world of awesome. If serious, sheet music is 100% worth it to learn. Proper musical theory lays a foundation that will catapult you into anything you want. I know the comments are chalked full of positive feedback and that's great. There's gonna be a time down the road though, that you may start to regret not doing the above mentioned. A strong foundation will make 2-3 years rival most with 10+. More importantly be able to push you past a plateau. We all hit a wall sooner or later. At that point its not about learning new stuff, its un learning bad habbits that limit our progression.
Hell ya! Just realizing after the vid that this was posted 10 months ago hahah hopefully you're still at it strong! I started in 08 for a about a year but didnt take it TO seriously. Got back into it fall of last year and been absolutely obsessed. I bought a new acoustic to dabble with then after i was hooked got a new prs s2 cu24, Marshall, fender and spark amp ton of pedals and i played every bit of free time i had. 6 or so hours a day, every day even when my fingers where raw from the acoustic 😅😅 past few months work has gotten in the way but im back playing regularly again 🙃a lot of people give up early its hard to make it past that entry point for many but once you get to the point where you understand how things work and your playing starts to makes sense and sound good it really becomes this super awesome thing!! ROCK ON GIRL!!⚡⚡🎸⚡⚡
The first appearnce of the Fender - so great ! Very good joice to make those public to encourage others. Wounderful progress for a year - shows just how much consistency can do for you in this short time. Getting back into it myself again showed me how hard it can be not having played for years once you dropped it. Keep it up and keep those vids coming !

Good job keep going I'm currently on 2 years barely. Keep practicing you will keep on getting better. For me practicing made me better and playing challenging songs. I like to play polyphia and it taught me many techniques

That's a whole lot of improvement for a year, I'm extremely impressed. I may be a kid but I've been around guitars all my life, and I've been recently getting into them more. Both sides of my family have excellent guitar players, and I strive to be like them. This gave me a lot of inspiration, amazing video. It is inspiring! :) You can see how the tension in your arm diminished as you got more comfortable playing, your rhythm and strumming evened out, your transitions smoothed out, nice bending and vibrato, and trying new things, more advanced things as you progress. Well done. It's probably been mentioned that you should work on alternate picking. It will make your playing sound more fluid and will help you play faster. You can practice by going up and down a scale using up & down strokes. Your focus will be your alternate picking but it will also improve you touch and feel on the fretting hand. Minor Pentatonic, position 1 in Am. Put in a few minutes a day with a metronome and you'll be sounding like a pro in a few months.

It is inspiring! :) You can see how the tension in your arm diminished as you got more comfortable playing, your rhythm and strumming evened out, your transitions smoothed out, nice bending and vibrato, and trying new things, more advanced things as you progress. By 4:48, you were just jamming. It was nice to see the change and you relax into the music. Well done, Amber! And great song selections. I also know your songs got more hardcore too. :) I'm just picking up (acoustic) guitar again after a 12 yr break!

Well done. It's probably been mentioned that you should work on alternate picking. It will make your playing sound more fluid and will help you play faster. You can practice by going up and down a scale using up & down strokes. Your focus will be your alternate picking but it will also improve you touch and feel on the fretting hand. Minor Pentatonic, position 1 in Am. Put in a few minutes a day with a metronome and you'll be sounding like a pro in a few months.
