Excellent demonstration of Geostrategy according to Macknder; Rimland vs Heartland. If the Heartland unites, it will use the economic might to eventually push into the waters. The Rimland depends on trade and the control of World Seas.

Island fortress could be balanced with a wonder victory option if you want more pilgrims matches since they are so much fun to watch.
Could also just make the starting islands smaller to prevent large island fortresses.

I know this isn't smart but if you are trying to dock, wouldn't the play be to rush a castle or two down in an area, then build docks, then produce galleons/demos to keep it open long enough to produce a sniping navy of galleons and cannon galleons. I think the landed player should always win since you can similarly guard the shore line except sinking a transport kills way more units and then even if they land they need time to build. The only way i could think the island player wins is to send some bait in one direction and then land a sniping army elsewhere
Hey T90. I haven't played AOE2 in years, more of an AOE3 fan but consistantly watch your youtubes.
Games this long on this map is why pilgrims is less and less frequent of a FFA map. Also t90BlowyBois.
Make shallow water paths to all the islands?
Or shallow rivers throughout mainland.
It'd likely make the games even longer, but yeah, in the interest of balancing different strats I like it. It seems like going water heavy on this map can be really strong in the middle game, helping your King survive while players betray each other. But it gets progressively worse as the game goes on where wood is depleted and market prices worsen. So for players that go water they need to have some kind of plan to secure land when other players are distracted and/or have realistic chances to snipe if they want the win.
I'm thinking about getting the game again after 15 years to play online. Should I go with Steam HD version or regular?

Can they make a pilgrims map that has so small of an island that all you could make is just 1 dock? No TC or anything major.

You know, you could make a "boobies" command, and be a real wise ass by having it show an icon of a certain bird known as the "Blue Footed Boobies" (I'm serious, that's actually what they're called) XD
Another entertaining game! Truly deserved, really, that was dominant from teal while camping the islands is kinda boring
Maybe make the islands smaller or a wonder victory, that might get rid of camping. I think pros will just quit like viper did when he couldn’t push water nor want to wait around in that one game, sorta lame they avoid most combat and wait till they get the last 2 hours just camping and holding out.

Brett McConn He had no space, only had trash on land and was going water. You'd have won anyway, in fact you'd have won 20 minutes earlier if you had remained ally with him. Would have been so much easier to take out Bobby.
Mind you, I know those kind of games can make your paranoid. So I get it. But it was still a backstab and it wasn't very smart. If Bobby had managed to gain a foothold on land after you killed Pluto, you'd have been done for.

I rooted for you, completely agreed with that decision to kill off pluto, celts can be very tough to deal with if you wait too long for them to die haha, also you'd have no land army left if you killed yellow before pluto!
Why does everyoen just advice voobly? HD works fine for me. Its only for MP? But problem with that is you got all these 'laggers' from accross the globe.

Yep. With wonders on I think it's viable. Otherwise they need a plan to retake land control before it gets down to 1 strong opponent.

Wait, why is corner a good strategy. You're forced to stick to a booming strategy without water, and with large delay. How is that going to work out for you?
Decent King safety/protected position. Ability to boom while other players contest the shoreline, then backstab at the right moment to take more land.

Only reason I can think of is that post-imp Mongols are deemed OP what with fast siege and Mangudai, making King snipes too easy.

S.T. Funken you can get the hd edition on steam and then either play it on steam or voobly. Might want to watch some youtube videos of people showing what to download to make it work on voobly.
