Why does it look like they're having an argument in the middle/second-part of the first-half? Is it about the "ss of smokes" (I don't know what that stands for)?

yes i think it was about that, back then you could play CS in 16bit instead of 32bit color depth and get an advantage because you could see enemies better through smokegrenades.

ss means screenshot.. meaning everyone had to take a screenshot of smoke to make sure they were not using 16-bit colors.
