The roots of Bhushi Dam date back to the late 1860s, when it was constructed for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway. Its primary purpose was to serve as a water source for the steam engines that once powered the railway system. Cast-iron pipes were used to carry water from the dam to destinations like Lonavala, Khandala, and the railway's reversing station.
The monsoon season, which typically spans from July to September, transforms Bhushi Dam into a spectacle worth witnessing. As the rains pour down, the dam gracefully overflows, creating a breathtaking sight as water cascades over a series of steps and rocky terrain. This unique combination of terrain and water creates an irresistible attraction that draws crowds, especially on weekends and holidays.
