Do you have any advice on how to judge swells ?I have a 14ft Broom speedboat converted for sea fishing (25hp two stroke outboard)( no seats at the stern)The boat has good stability, but a shallow draft.
When there was not so many we released them all but I always said if the octopus became a problem we would start taking them. Having said that on my boat we still will not take or kill anything we have no use for.
The last few years spider crabs been hanging around all year (mostly smaller ones) mackerel were being caught from boat and shore last week. comber, tuna & octopus becoming common more types of bream.and cold water species moving north all points to warning waters, milder winters or even a shift in the gulf stream.
That's because we dont we wear lifejackets we wear flotation jackets and carry life jackets along with vhf radio, flares, spare engine and a waterproof phone.
@Trojwaterman flotation jacket's and suites are only affective when zipped up otherwise they turn you over in the water life vest 🦺 have been proven to be the most effective not much good on board when your already in the water 😕
Where I fish there is little to no boat traffic if you fall in outside the bay you will head out to sea fast either north or south depending on tide direction. The waters are very cold and your survival time will not be long in the water. A life jacket will be pretty useless in this situation apart from body recovery. The flotation jacket will give you a longer survival time. The other alternative is to take off the life jackets or flotation jacket and swim for it, cross cutting tide before you freeze to death. I have weighed up all options for where I fish. In another area I may do things different. I take all possible precautions but ultimately I accept the risks if not I would go do something else.
@Trojwaterman Point taken you know your waters better than me , when we had a fishing boat out of. Littlehampton life vests were a must tis a very busy shipping lane , best of luck to you both always enjoy your videos brings back fond memories we sadly lost a couple of our crew so my buddy and I decided we were getting too old to handle the boat ourselves Tight lines keep up the great work.
Cost of exporting here is very high. I have eaten octopus several times in the past but its not my favorite and these things are huge. So that's a lot of octopus.
I think I'm gonna have mackerel for lunch now, nice one 👍😊
It would be great to have a video of your smoking process one day.
Keep the fab content going, thanks both 👍🏻
At some point we will do an up to date video but there is this older video : th-cam.com/video/TiOWBV2x56c/w-d-xo.html

Swell here is produced by low pressure out in the Atlantic just keep an eye on low pressure systems moving around out to sea.
Nice one guys. I’m not at all jealous of the mackerel lol
Mackerel the peoples favorite 😁😁🐟
@ absolutely Troy
Good morning from Ottawa Canada 4;00.A.M.

it's a,shame how no octopus gets released anymore . by any potters

You have to find a way of getting rid of the octopus before all the lobsters are gone.
I think they are here to stay for now unless we get a very cold winter.
What's going on Troy, why's there still Mackerel, Longnose, Spiders around, sea temps?.

Troj, have you ever tried eating octopus?
Yes I have had it before
Don't see the wearing of life jackets 😮
