For as long as video games have existed, gamers have found community in the hobby we share.
And those communities didn’t just form around the games. Fans have also become obsessed with the characters themselves. Sometimes to….frightening degrees.
Unfortunately, due to the limitations of character creators and local craft stores, finding a character that not only looks like you but also matches your voice and personality is near impossible.
However, it’s not completely impossible.
Meet Shannon Williams, the ex-K-pop star-turned-Twitch content creator who serendipitously became the voice, face, and personality of Valorant’s most popular character: Jett.
So, how did an Instagram DM take Shannon from singing to headlining Valorant? How has she built an entire community out of just one voice role? And ultimately, who really came first: Shannon Williams, or Jett?

I used to support Shannon when she was still a kpop star, It's so upsetting how her previous company didn't care about her. I was so happy when I realized that she is the voice actor for Jett!
She's the common one in that Industry. Every other kpop star you follow goes through the same thing.

one thing not pointed out here is that Shannon didn't originally got the part, she was told that she didn't get it. But weeks/months later, she got a call saying that her voice fitted better

I'm proud of her long journey from being K-POP Idol to Valorant VA and content creator. I also a KPOP fan and I listen to her song back then when Shannon was just debuted, but her company did her dirty. For now, i'm really glad, she didn't continue her idol career at shitty company and she looks more happier and comfortable with her career path

@@JigglePhysicsX To be fair, she hated singing it because her voice changed due to a 2-3 year gap between recording and performance, meaning she had to change her voice while singing if she wanted to keep it similar.

I supported her from her star king era till her kpop carer then she came back as streamer I played Valorant and every time I heard jett I smile remembering every appearance on Korean shows she had since she was kid I hope she find happiness where ever she goes
honestly, i was waiting for a video like this... when shannon was living her kpop star career, not many people appreciated her talent. i remember she was categorized in the "wasted talents of the kpop industry." kpop companies have a reputation of being unprofessional towards their artists, shannon became a victim of this. i'm happy that she now has something she genuinely loves to do, and more and more people are recognizing her.

Riot is definitely the best company in the world at giving voices to small artists. You look at the singers for their songs and a lot of times is tiny artists running bar room sized concerts but have so much talent (take the re ignition theme from Champs 2023). Its definitely their thing and giving a hand to these people is a phenomenal idea.
MBK entertainment was pretty much dead to the ground at that point. Feel so bad for Shannon that her career was not popping off

I felt so bad for her being a victim to the problems with the Korean music genre toxicity that abides to the problems within the korean society. Shannon was also one of the best vocalist in her generation. I was so confused when she suddenly disappeared. I'm glad she's doing well in another field. Also, she looks happier now.

I really supported her during her KPOP singer days, and its unfortunate she was mistreated so much so she's better off leaving the industry. She was also an actress in "Moorim School" Kdrama. Its a martial arts kdrama. so good. I love her ❤️

@@rxb1nn "very known" post-Jett let's be clear here. She didn't have a sizable following, was definitely not famous as a vocalist, and was part of a dying (well, dead) brand. She's got plenty of talent and is good in certain areas as a singer (as are many singers), but she is by no means considered by anyone with a modicum of objectivity as particularly vocally adept. There are plenty of K-Pop stars out there with higher ranges, better vocals, better technique, etc.
