I know EXACTLY what you mean about waiting for your hair tool to heat up, we have definitely gotten spoiled to the tools that heat up immediately lol. This tool seems pretty easy to use! I have bad shoulders, and it's hard for me to curl my own hair, and this is something I might actually be able to use!! I'll have to check them out!!!

Paul Mitchell has a great dry heat protectant, but it says to only use it on dry hair
This is actually the newer Beachwaver Pro, it doesn’t have the home button but the barrel is longer. So I guess you have to choose between having a longer barrel or having a home button. You should try the Living Proof Restore Instant Protection Spray. It’s like the perfecting spray but better, it doesn’t weigh the hair down or get wet. It’s dry and leaves the hair smooth and shiny before styling and after. Try it out!

I have one of these but in all honesty, what does this do that a traditional curling iron can’t other than wind up?
I have the most expensive model the 1.25 pro. It doesn't have a home button either. ☹
