Heard this story and my first thought was "MIL peaked in hs when she was nominated for homecoming queen (didn't win, just nominated)". It's some queen bee ish, but it can be very hard to call out, but damn do we need to start calling it out because it's honestly pathetic when we've got grown women in their 60s acting worse than Regina George. Don't get mad, don't yell, just point out how stupid and immature they look.

Wow!! I didn't think OP could get worse, but hearing that update. He and his brother are both mumma's boys and it's baffling that either of them have wives. This has been going on for years. OP's wife finally had enough. Calling the wife a bad influence is ridiculous

Honestly, I feel like we're gonna get an update where the OP is confused af why his wife left him and his brothers wife left him, and their mom just says they're crazy and better off or whatever.

When you grow up in a patriarchal home where it's encouraged that the women fight each other, it's no wonder that any and all men will end up feeling special and entitled. OP's wife and brother's wife should contact OP's mother and ask for samples of the dinner, explaining that they're checking if it's acceptable for their tastes and worth attending or if they'll be attending their respective family's dinners instead. If MiL is offended... well, that's just the way the cookie-that-didn't-make-the-cut crumbles, isn't it?

Story 1: "I don't know how this got out of control so quickly." It wasn't quick, and it got out of control the second that samples were demanded for testing years ago. Even if the mom were a professional cook, that would only create the expectation that she make all the food by herself (since obviously few people meet her standards). The fact that two wives have now dropped out leaves me hopeful this will lead to a mass exodus where many people choose to spend the holidays with the other side of their family.

@@dementedqueen4392 I never said that op shouldn't watch the kids, only that she had the right to refuse. I've had to watch my nieces and nephews for emergencies and I've even called into work once to watch the youngest for his mom to go to work. There is a difference between helping because it's right and helping because you are being forced. The reason I'm saying ESH is because op could have helped while the brother should have respected her saying no (especially as it was clear that op shouldn't be left alone with the kids anyway). Also, someone should have the right to say no without the fear that they would be kicked out if they do. Neither are fully innocent or guilty.

@@jedimasters1462 See? That restores my faith in humanity that you help your sibling out in a tight jamb. We do these things not because we have an agreement or have to be forced, but we WANT to do them as good human beings that want to help those around us (while not being a doormat). However, I don't think this was a situation someone was being forced into. Emergencies come up and a person shouldn't have to be forced to do something but WANT to do something because it's for the good of everyone. Technically you are right - the brother should not have kicked her out for refusing to watch the kids, and yes, if the sister really doesn't want to watch the kids and is that much of an AH about watching kids, then yes, it's probably a good idea they don't watch your kids for your own kids' sake, HOWEVER I stand by the fact that the sister SHOULD have done that to help the people who have so graciously been helping her (she could have taken them to her parents). And in the end, I am very glad they did kick her butt out. Why? Because you can not, under any circumstances, have someone who is so obviously a huge user around your family. It's not good for the kids, it's not good for the wife (the wife has to ask the OP to do things around the house - these are things OP should be doing without having been asked because they are staying somewhere for free and once again, it's the right thing to do), and it's not good for the harmony in the house. I really don't think this is an ESH situation. But I hope you can see where I am coming from. Reddit always says you don't have to do something you don't want to do but they never talk about when you SHOULD do them.

The Dog story: NTA. Look I'll give an example of the two dogs we've had.
Doggo 1 was a GSD mix that ONLY liked family, anything else that breathed in the yard was an intruder, so we kept him in the back yard if we ever had visitors. You could look at photos but you weren't gonna pet him.
Doggo 2 (The current dog) is another GSD and she's an attention seeker who'll bark until visitors acknowledge the Queen with appropriate belly rubs but she has a habit of peeing out of excitement so we don't let her interact with guests indoors.
Both of those stories and the one in the video have a common thread: You set limits to protect both your guests and your pet, which OP did. So they're NTA. If Brian's mom calls again, I was telling her to take me to court and show off the evidence of who the aggressor was.

I can no longer bring goodies for Christmas, but that's because of so many family allergies. Gluten-free cookies would cost a fortune in ingredients I'd not use again so I'm not upset. Plus, less baking.

Cookie Post: Clearly the mama's boys are AH. I honestly hope that this leads to most if not all the women who didn't make the list deciding not to attend. I hope the humiliation and cookies were worth it.

My Ex is an absolutely amazing Chef! Every time I’d ask what I could bring, I was told “Him” 😂 In 29 years of our being married, I’ve never cooked a Holiday meal! I wouldn’t know how lol I still miss his cooking!

_"No. I simply won't be bringing anything."_
Seriously, that's *all* it takes. Jesus...
