Blast back to the 90s with the old skool DAW that is the Roland W30 Workstation. In this video you learn how to sample sounds into the workstation and edit them for your track or project. I'll be using a smartphone as the input source and the samples direct from online videos. The track we will build is "The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place" as it was originally created on the W30 by Liam Howlett and is fun to attempt to recreate.

This is some great, informative stuff here. Definitely a top video on W30 on YT 👍
I love my W30, I`m never selling it ❤ Getting to play some The Prodigy tracks on the original hardware they were made on is too much fun.

I had one back in the early nineties with a Syquest drive. Loved it! But also clearly remember the noise coming from the LCD that bleed into the audio out... 🤔🤔

Best way to find the start of the sample is play sample a few octaves down, while moving the start point up with wheel. That way you'll hear the very start of sample at a slowed down speed giving you the actual start point .

13:45, can adjust the truncate, on the second dial, going to the option below 'Search mode + - 1,' increasing this value, and using the second dial turning until you find the right point :)

    Dude, Where's my car?
You appear to be into the same stuff as me. I own a Roland W30, A Moog Prodigy, A Yamaha cs1x, An Alpha Juno and a Alesis Quadrasynth Piano Plus. The only difference between us is that you can use yours while mine are just gathering dust. I lived through the 80's and 90's and was addicted to the sounds of these decades that's why I bought my equipment. This tutorial helped me blow the dust off my W30 and I eagerly await your follow up video. I am currently trying to play Gary Numan and OMD on my equipment but am failing miserably. All your tutorials are most welcome. Please make some more.
    My Music Preferences are..
    The Human League
    Jean Michelle Jarre
    OMD
    Georgio Moroder
and all Analog Synth and TB303 hit songs
did you know that rebirth is a software containing 2 TB303 unis a 909 and some other stuff. This software is available for free from propellorhead. I'm sure you could make good use of this while I follow along while watching your tutorial.
    Keep up the good work

So I'm new when it comes to floppy disks and units that use them, if I put a system disk in there, take that out and put a blank floppy disk in there, sample 808s , and take that disk out, will it save to the disk? I would imagine it has a save function. But I see they also have data disks, and I dont know what a data disk is

15:15 hey what's up with that blip noise in the sample? I got that too and i kept thinking I did something wrong.
Also, any way to set the sample to loop on the time signature instead of right after its done? Because it sounds whack when it repeats superfast and especially if it wasn't a musical sample to begin with.

Hi. How do I sample the chord from the W-30's wave bank, the tone, and the patch?
I've been trying to do the same thing as the following tutorial but the W-30's built-in sampler cannot sample its internal sound source.
    th-cam.com/video/g7XjYBAYq8g/w-d-xo.html
What I'm going to do is that I want to sample the W-30 wave data with chord without having to use any external sampler such as Akai S-series or MPC.
After loading the distortion guitar sound disk floppy, I chose [62. sampling] then did every settings you mentioned.
The loaded guitar sound was heard until pressing Auto. After pressing Auto, nothing was heard or triggered to internal sampler either.

Does anybody know if you can play a sample just by hitting the key once instead of holding the key down on This machine? I forget what it is called when you do that but you basically press the key once and the whole sample plays
