I you form the Latin empire/become catholic, just aim for hre emperor. Then abuse the pretender rebels mechanic to quickly get imperial authority. You get 10 IA every time you get a new ruler and you can get new rulers every 2.5 to 3.5 years. Then convert back to orthodox to complete the byz missions after you revoke the priviligia
iirc they hotfixed pretenders giving 10 ia
They fixed this yesterday
Got patched
you can white peace the league war and convert then
It's so funny that you got the Burgundian Inheritance as the Latin Empire because the first Latin Emperor was actually Count of Flanders and Count of Hainaut as well.
Interesting piece of trivia
That should be an achievement
Cooler than my start of playing ottomans declaring immediately and releasing as vassal
And more fun than forming Byz as Austria/Venice
Just the other day I was playing Aq Qoyunlu and was planning to suck up to the Ottomans early to convince them not to expand past Anatolia. Then after a war with Trebizond I noticed the Ottomans... getting carpet sieged. Byzantine AI went Catholic and Ottomans were at war with Austria, Hungary, the PLC, & the pope all at once, and at war with Venice in a separate war. I then changed my plans and full annexed all the Turkish beyliks in a quick couple wars, like "What are you gonna do about it, Osboy?" After their war, they were actually so intimidated by me that they dropped interest in the Anatolian provinces and stayed by friend lol. I lowkey wish AI Byzantium went Latin more often, it's comfy.
Bonobo, the chimp, the myth, the legend
Revoking Latin Favoritism in the Latin Empire seems funny.
Amazing!
As an Orthodox myself I feel so much pain after you took that decision but it is just a game but still hurts XD
Yellow Byzantium lite with most of its actual holdings in Anatolia when the game gets started? Sounds like Nicea from Ante Bellum
this strat is actually harder and more RNG rage inducing than just the normal merc/block sea route. After 8+ tries i got them to declare on me, took the papal asshat almost 18months to intervene and then the ottomans fought 5 nations outnumbered 5 to 1 to a standstill. B.S.
Converts back to Byzantium: nothing to see here folks
This seems like a fun way to play the Latin Empire
I was gonna do research on Teddy Roosevelt's role in the Venezuelan Crisis of the early 1900's, but then I saw this, and saw that it was from monkey man himself, I couldn't resist. Excellent work my friend!
Thanks!
I didn't even know this path existed! How did you find out about this strategy? Cool video :)
Thanks! There was a suggestion in discord, plus there are a few posts on Reddit.
Honestly the yellow map color is both terrible and great, i hate and love it.
pretty cool this is an option
This is so damn cursed
It makes sense that it's hard and not fleshed out (you are basically selling your soul) but it's weird that the negative effects can't be removed. The path is unviable enough that both converting to Catholic through rebels (If Catholic purple byzantium is the goal) and just forming Latin empire as a different nation seems more worthwhile.
Least painful way to go catho is to just force epirus to make you catholic in the first war.
Well, they CAN be removed, it's just a pain. Devs just need to lower the tolerance requirement, so you don't need to either savescum or go reformed. I just don't understand why they made byzantine achievements not obtainable, Latin route is more difficult in the long run.
Amazing, I didn't know there was a lazy man strategy to survive :p
Rushing Ottoman as Byzantine is rng fest except with becoming Catholic but i figure out how to win with lesser rnf reliant even if it's slower.
As Byzantine you get a lot of money from the help of Serbia and squeezing the Greek merchant dry event(the one where you lose 20 merchant loyalty for money). Use it to hire mercenary after completing Impending doom and bluff Austria into thinking Byzantine are powerful enough to be Byzantine ally, once the ally secure just curry favor and wait until the right moment for the attack.
Yeah, basically now Byz strats are either random, or rely on allying Austria/Hungary. I also find the second one safer, thank you for sharing the Strat, always good to know the ways to make alliances easier
@@CoolBonobo The downside i comple against Ottoman at 1460-70 i think, when both Austria and Ottoman have mil tech 5. Because once i ally Austria i disband my mercenary except free company and just sit back and wait. Slower but less effort just watch out for pretender and union rebel.
>who cares about achievements
Me sweating nervously after going from 0 to 130+ achievments in the last 7 months
"The only downside is that we would need to convert to Catholicism"
Me, an actual Catholic: Downside?
Hello fellow believer
I have played 2 games with byz so far in 1.36. In my first try I took all my cores (except edirne) and max money but that caused the mamluks to declare on ottomans and gobble up most of anatolia by 1500. On my second campaign, I only took gelibolu and Macedonia, max money and war reps. The mamluks did the same thing once again. In both cases my only ally when declaring on the ottomans was Serbia, but I didn't call ottomans
Only logical choice: Trucebreak the Ottomans 😌
Yeah, that's why I usually try to focus on surrounding Ottomans, strong Mamluks are even worse than strong Ottomans.
omg lol this is OP. haha
Really a shame it ruins the achievements but I guess I understand why
You concentrated literally on everything BUT reconquesting your core lands
Cores don't go away, but Ottomans might go to Mamluks if you don't isolate them
when Hussite Byzantium?
i guess doing this also lets you grab Naples with less AE since you are fellow Catholics?
It lets you grab any catholic province with less ae (there are also some in Balkans), plus religious diplomats also increase relations with a lot more nations.
What unit sprites uses the latin empire?
Good question actually, I guess crusader ones because you change your tag when taking this decision.
if you are not able to get any achievements you just start with ottomans instead
Lore of This Cursed Strat Makes Byzantium Easy - EU4 1.36 Catholic Byzantium momentum 100
Blasphemy!Cursed that latin heresy.
Are the Ottomans actually coded to delay their attack if you finish missions? Or is it simply them seeing modifiers and thinking you're stronger than you actually are?
Kinda. For missions you need to find allies, and build troops. This makes you worse target. than some weak Anatolian beyliks, so they attack you only when weaker nations are conquered.
How did ya get rid of reliance on republics
There's a decision that does it
wat descion and wat are the requriments@@CoolBonobo
Oh, nvm. Sorry about this, mistook the privilege. No need for decision, you can revoke it the usual way, just have more loyalty than influence
@@CoolBonobo k
@@CoolBonobo so i need to make my burghers piss loyal
I think you and I have the same taste in the nations we play, that being said I find it hard to suggest interesting videos given that, any Italy game plays the exact same (except Venice my sweet child), the Iberian nations are kind of lame to play, ottomans boring, British isles same as Italy, maaaaybe a catholic Tarascan game?, that’s always been a game I’ve wanted to do but haven’t, coming up with ideas is hard.
Genoa also has unique gameplay, but other than this yeah. Ideas come randomly, I usually get them when I play around with random nations until it clicks.
going catholic as byzantium is strictly restricted by constitution!
did this but ended up getting declared on by venice and genoa mid war with the ottomans
update won the wars against them with mercs and a lot of loans but got coalitioned after my war with the ottomans and mamluks declared the coaltion just now
won the coaltion war took the entirety of karaman and a province to release syria from my economy is in shambels
Does this still work after patch?
Sure, that's not a bug or exploit, they won't change the event
First complete missions, then core. You are missing your claim discounts, or at least restart the cores if you didnt take too long to click the mission button.
I do cancel and record off camera, if it happens.
@@CoolBonobo ah, alright
Cursed strat is take the event to let Ottomans take Constantinople in white peace and make player vassal Morea then Ottomans just grants your cores back.
Funny enough it may be easier than conventional Byz start, at least it's easy to get allies.
this run is so curse
Bro just form the Latin empire with the knights or Cyprus if you want to do catholic, the eastern roman empire is meant to be orthodox
Blasphemy!
