Most people forget that San Antonio’s unofficial slogan during Duncan’s senior year in college was “Tankin’ for Timmy”. That’s why I used to laugh when folks would say stuff like “The Spurs would never tank, Popovich wouldn’t stand for it” 😂 When they do tank, they get rewarded for it!
Their best player, David Robinson was injured in preseason where he missed 18 games where they went 3-15 and then he broke his foot. Next best player was Dominique Wilkins. He retired in 1999.

I read an article months ago saying Wemby was going to be a Spur. So I wasn't surprised at all. It said Tony Parker set it up and the Spurs wouldn't even spend a pick on him. I guess they threw that part out but still not surprised by this fixed game.
If I remember correctly, Popovich became the head coach the year before Duncan arrived. Since he was the general manager, he fired the head coach and took over. How convenient.

When Kwame came into the NBA, MJ was still playing with the Wizards. They played one year together in 2001-2002. So, that’s a whole different situation. Lamelo is a gifted playmaker who can see over smaller guards. They would have been a defensive nightmare for opposing teams. MJ should have hired Ime Udoka before Houston and tell Adam Silver and Malika Andrews to f*ck off. Steve Clifford isn’t that guy. They need a defensive minded coach. A lot of these young dudes don’t want to play both sides of the ball like MJ did.
