So the speedrun Canon is you go to the ship, find it's exploding anyway so you leave, you jack the guys pelican, quite possibly resulting in his capture, then when it's time to free him you just run away, leaving him to escape and fight escharum on his own (tough lad) before taking his pelican back from you.
I love speedruns like this, that start out fairly simple so you can just appreciate how skilled and practiced the runner is. And then you hit that first "I didn't know you could do that" moment as you watch whole minutes+ of content get skipped.
7:42 took me 25 attempts to manage this one. A few seconds could be gained if not being projected as high as possible. ie. not reaching the "return to battelfield" height but still going high enough to get to the platform, or a bit below and finish with the grapple
not a month in and i feel the run is more technical than some classic speedruns like Mario Sunshine... i'm in awe. the 30-minute barrier is in shambles.

That was fantastic! It blows my mind that in 2021 developers insist on having unskippable cutscenes and stuff like that. Having played the campaign many times, it got annoying pretty fast having to sit through power up and FOB explanations.
how does the part at 23:08 work? you just have to take a small amount of damage from the laser? and yes, I know there are faster strats but I'm trying to do it this way
This used to give you invincibility, but it seems like it was patched because I've been unable to get it to work since I did my LASO a few weeks ago. Edit: I can confirm it does still work, you just need to end game and load the save.
the laser gives him invincibility for one mission which lets him pass through kill barriers, and because being in a flying vehicle removes most solid invisible barriers, he can fly to the house of reckoning
when you get out of the pelican get the hammer then go and get the cutscene leave the game re join the game (NOW IMPORTENT) go and touch the laser that is shotting down and then go back to the pelican and leave (no you wont get killed)
@@unicornman1441 yeah I did all that... Touched the laser and confirmed invulnerable, but I get to a spot flying over the abyss that the pelican can't move and I die anyways like I hit a death barrier or something. Wasn't sure if you needed to follow an exact route or what
@@mdHugh no I just keep going straight and the plane will go lower then it just somehow it goes through and the I go up and just repeat. I’m just stuck on 25:48 I can’t go through the wall
@@mdHugh same thing happens to me after confirming invul. I tried following the exact route, but end up dying in one spot or another before the map transition to the next area. Might have to ask on the discord.
@@thefallingsorrow I had another speed runner comment asking if I tested invulnerability with my own grenade. He was having some issues with dying at the invis barriers and I think it's tied somehow to getting the invulnerability

I’ve seen a couple runs where they do get perfect height and don’t overshoot. He may have just been unlucky.

Damage yourself most of the way with the coil. Die to the DoT plasma on the ground during the cutscene. Quit and restart.
