Hello, If you look at the instruction for this skill, Prometric requires the student to put on three things. (Shirt, pants, and sock) You must know who the testing agency is for your state. It sounds like you were viewing a Credentia site. I just checked the internet and the state of Washington test under Prometric. Double check this please. My instructions on this TH-cam site is for Prometric.
@@txcnaskills2599 I shared your videos with my CNA class here in New York and everyone loved you. Thank you for your attention to detailed and clarity.
Hello Sr. Maggie, When you arrive at the test site, the evaluator will give you a card with your skills listed. The card will indicated if the client has a weak right or left arm.
Hello HTowngurl17, Great question. The bed safety check is not required when transferring the patient from the bed to the wheelchair. This is different from the Pearson Vue guidelines. When you go to take your test, the evaluator will have the bed wheels locked before your partner gets into the bed for that person's safety. Therefore the wheels are already locked.
Thank you for your videos. Is it allowable to sit the HOB up while dressing the resident? Just the HOB, not sitting the resident on the side of the bed. They will be in supine position before the skill, so if we return the resident to the original position after the skill, is that ok? Thank you.
Hello Michael, Good Questions. If there is a chance that the top sheet will get wet, I suggest using a bath blanket to cover the patient so that you will leave the patient with dry linen. If you have to undress the client, a top sheet is thin and will not keep the elderly patient warm. Again, because elderly people are often cold I suggest using a bath blanket.
Prometric does not tell us to use a bath blanket or a sheet to cover the client. The instructions do state not to expose the client. Ask yourself, can you see a body part under a sheet when bathing or dressing a client. If you can a body part that is normally covered, the client is exposed. I would use this as my deciding factor for using a bath blanket or sheet.
Dr lee thank you for the video pls I have a question my question is this most I put blankets to cover residents, because when i went to CNA class they did not put blankets on any skills
Hello Angela, Prometric does not care is you use a blanket or the top sheet. The primary thing you will be graded on is keeping the patient covered. This will be graded under patient's rights for indirect care.
Hello, question. I take my test tomorrow when dressing the resident, does it matter if I put the pants or socks on first or does the socks always go first ?
ive seen some videos where they put the shirt over the bath blanket and button it up instead of trying to button the shirt up under the bath blanket. Is that ok to do?
Hello Michael, Placing the patient in fowlers or semi-fowlers position will definitely make putting the shirt on much easier. Keep in mind the patient will be in a supine position when starting the skill.
Hi Dr. Lee, I will be doing my clinicals on Monday, the 29th of January. I noticed that you don’t do safety checks for the bed. Is it not necessary? Am in the state of TX. Thank you
Hello, Gloves are not mandated for this skill. In healthcare, a professional does not have to wear gloves every time he/she touches a patient. We need gloves on if the skin is open or there is a chance of contacting body fluids. Take care.
Hello Atheena, Placing your hands through the shirt is a Prometric requirement. www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/NAClinicalSkillsChecklist.pdf See page 4 for the skill (PAY ATTENTION TO STEP 8) Dress a resident who has a weak arm The candidate is asked to put a long-sleeved button-front shirt, pants, and socks on a resident who is lying in bed. The resident is not able to help with the dressing and has a weak arm. A mannequin is used for the role of the resident Does the candidate: 1 Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self? (IC) 2 Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care? (IC) 3 Include resident in decision-making about clothing to wear? 4 Collect all garments before removing hospital gown? 5 Support affected arm while undressing and dressing? 6 Remove hospital gown? 7 Dress affected arm first? 8 Gather up sleeve to ease pulling over affected arm? 9 Dress resident by putting on pants, shirt with sleeves, and socks?
Hello, If Prometric requires the use of gloves, there will be a step to put the gloves on. For the dressing a client with a weak arm, GLOVES ARE NOT required.
Would the evaluator fail you for rolling the person to get the shirt under? Because to roll them you have to put some sort of pressure on the weak side arm? Would it be better to briefly sit them up, position the shirt, then have them lay back down? Thanks, I test next week
Hello Clancy, The evaluator WIll NOT fail you for having the client roll from side to side when putting on the long sleeve shirt. Remember is you roll the client not to get the person near the edge of the bed.
Hi Dr. lee, do we need to tell the patient that we holding the hands without over extending the limb and joints ? And I saw u didn’t wear a gloves on this skill. Thank u
Hello Aiko, Prometric does not require gloves with this skill. Gloves are only required with open skin, rashes, or peri care is involved. With all of the skills we must tell the patient what we are going to do BEFORE you perform the skill.
Hello Barbara, Prometric does not care which item the student puts on the client first. You will not loose points for putting the pants, socks, or shirts on first. What is important with this skill has to do with the shirt. Always undress the strong arm first. The student should place the shirt (dress the client) on starting with the weak arm first.
@@txcnaskills2599 Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly answer my question I appreciate it I was also wondering would you happen to have any idea how many mistakes were allowed to make on the clinical and still pass?
Are you going to be required to fully dress or just to put on the shirt on the weak side ? Arent you only allowed so many minutes for all of the skills you are asked to do ?
Hello Kimberly, If you are testing through Prometric, you will be required to put the client on (1) a long-sleeve button-up front shirt, (2) a pair of pants, and (3) a pair of socks. The evaluator will tell you which side is the weak side during the exam. Therefore, the candidate does not know the weak side ahead of time. If you are testing through Pearson Vue, you will only need to put a button-up shirt on the client. Pearson Vue tells the candidate the weak side will be on the right. The evaluator will tell each candidate how much time he or she has to complete their exam.
@@kimberlylester2804 Hello Kimberly, when testing through Prometric you will be graded on 5 skills. Each person will have handwashing as their first skill. Each person will be graded on indirect care skills. There will also be three additional skills that the candidate will not know until the evaluator tells him or her during the test.

Hello Natalie, The evaluator will tell you that the mannequin has a weak arm. It will be important to know which side is weak during the dressing exam. So, are you planning on sitting the mannequin up in bed into a fowlers position? To me this will be very hard to put the pant on the mannequin while sitting up.
Hello Edna, The state will grade you by which arm you remove the shirt from First and which arm you put the shirt on first. Those are the important steps. Now to answer your question, I would not turn the patient to the side and then back to the other side to put on a shirt. That is too much turning for me.

@@txcnaskills2599 in one of your other reply’s to someone else’s comment you commented the pro-metrics guidelines for this skill and it says greet resident, address guest by name, introduce self. First step and a very important one I was taught in my CNA school.
Hello Gullymuma Jen, The skills I teach are according to Prometric guidelines. In the state of Colorado the students TEST under Credentia guidelines. In your state, the student is told ahead of time which arm will be the weak arm. This is not the case with Prometric. You might want to find videos related to Credentia so that you will not be confused. Again, these videos are related to Prometric guidelines.

Hello, Under Prometric guidelines you don't have to raise the bed to your waist level or use siderails.
How many questions u mis on test and pass
Prometric requires 100% passing with the skills.
Can I raise the bed to dress them?
Hello, Yes, you can raise the bed to your waist level for this skill. Be sure to put the bed down before you complete the skill.
So how long is the skills test
Each candidate can have 30-41 minutes for the skills exam.
@@txcnaskills2599 thank you . Yes I am testing with Prometric .
Also how many skills do you have to do with prometric ?
@@kimberlylester2804 Hello Kimberly, when testing through Prometric you will be graded on 5 skills. Each person will have handwashing as their first skill. Each person will be graded on indirect care skills. There will also be three additional skills that the candidate will not know until the evaluator tells him or her during the test.

Thank you so very much for all of your videos it is so greatly appreciated and so helpful and for answering all of the questions also . Also will I know the results that day? Do you have any updated videos on foot care sitting in a chair or mouth care with dentures i couldn't find any updated videos on those from any one ? Sorry about all of the questions just need to pass this time and I am so nervous
Great but you don’t say weak, you say affected,?right?!
Hello Stacey, Check page 4 of the skills checklist. Prometric uses the word "WEAK"
Suppose the resident was sitted, have a weak hand on the left and had shoes on.
Hello, the dressing skill will be done with the mannikin in the bed.
Can we sit the mannequin up to dress them?
Hello Natalie, The evaluator will tell you that the mannequin has a weak arm. It will be important to know which side is weak during the dressing exam. So, are you planning on sitting the mannequin up in bed into a fowlers position?
To me this will be very hard to put the pant on the mannequin while sitting up.
Dr Lee I'm asking is okay tuning the parson on the side? then put shart on the weak head then let the parson on the back to finish other head
Hello Edna, The state will grade you by which arm you remove the shirt from First and which arm you put the shirt on first. Those are the important steps.
Now to answer your question, I would not turn the patient to the side and then back to the other side to put on a shirt. That is too much turning for me.
@@txcnaskills2599 thank you so much Dr Lee.
Do you guys provide for exams?
Hello dr. Lee my exam is coming soon may be next month .I need your help to pass the exam because of covid 19 my instructor doesn't allow me to do the skills practice I am worried how can I pass in skills exam without practice. I have 20 skills in list for the exam. I need Fowler position video...
Hello Sandy, Which skill are you speaking of when you say Fowler's position video?
There is no skill called Fowler's position.
❤❤❤❤
Love back at ya.
She forgot to check if its the right person
Hello Wild Frontier, Where does Prometric have listed in the guidelines for testing to check if this is the right person? I have NEVER seen that requirement.
@@txcnaskills2599 in one of your other reply’s to someone else’s comment you commented the pro-metrics guidelines for this skill and it says greet resident, address guest by name, introduce self. First step and a very important one I was taught in my CNA school.
In Colorado this skill is done on your partner not on the manikin
Hello Gullymuma Jen, The skills I teach are according to Prometric guidelines. In the state of Colorado the students TEST under Credentia guidelines. In your state, the student is told ahead of time which arm will be the weak arm. This is not the case with Prometric. You might want to find videos related to Credentia so that you will not be confused. Again, these videos are related to Prometric guidelines.
Gloves are not needed for this skill
Hello, Correct, gloves are NOT needed for the dressing skill.
Does prometrics says exactly how many buttons to do? @txcnaskills
No, Prometric just says to place the client in a button down long sleeve shirt properly. Therefore, you should button all of the buttons even the ones at the cuffs.
