when I make this, I use the Keebler Club crackers, since they have that buttery taste, I also cook pecan pieces in the butter/brown sugar mixture/ I agree - Ghirardelli chocolate chips bring it to a higher level
I was thinking it was odd that he preferred "Ghirardelli" chocolate, but uses saltine crackers. I agree that Keebler Club Crackers would be so much better. Might as well go all out on the crackers. LOL!
😮 You, my dear, are the kind of people we need more of! I’m gonna make a batch at the Airbnb when my best friend and I head to Colorado for her 50th birthday in January! 🤩😍
I make these every year. The only thing I do differently is when the chocolate is still melted on top I put crushed pecans on top. Then put it in the fridge. O YEAH. My kids and myself love this stuff. Enjoy
I just made 3 batches by request for Thanksgiving at relatives house 3 hours away. We use matzoh and I prefer the lightly salted. I use a 12x16 cookie sheet pan with sides, line it with foil for minimal cleanup but then put parchment paper on top of the foil. I don’t have to spray it and the candy never sticks. I put a generous cup of chocolate chips on as soon as I take it out of the oven and in about 5 minutes I can easily spread the chocolate as the caramel has hardened a bit. One box of matzoh crackers will make 2 sheets with some leftover pieces. We call it matzoh crack. My husband already took 6 goodie bags to his coworkers plus one for himself. When breaking the pieces, I collect the crumbs and use them for ice cream sprinkles. I put layers into boxes and since it can still be warm in our area I place wax paper between the layers. The other family members use regular crackers but prefer the matzoh that I use.
What a great gift idea! I spread peanut butter between Ritz crackers and dip in chocolate candy melt, place on cooling rack to set up and dry, and everybody loves these, there are NEVER any leftover! Try them out for yourself. I'm going to make this saltine/caramel/chocolate recipe for my family! Thanks for sharing!
I make those too! But I mix in marshmallow fluff with the peanut butter. They are so good! Last year I didn't get any because everyone ate them all on me. This year I'm keeping half of them for myself. haha
I like the Ghirardelli chips because they don't have whatever Nestles puts on theirs to keep them from melting when you put them in chocolate chip cookies.
I make them all the time but for any holiday I but sprinkles on for that holiday ( Christmas-Halloween-new year-Saint Patty’s day-Easter-memorial day-4th of July-and just because 👍🏻
I got this recipe from a parenting website years ago. I made it . Omgosh they don’t call it Christmas crack for nothing. It’s so good. Thanks for sharing.
My favorite thing ever!! My step mom made these for Xmas every year and that was it, I needed!!! Them for my present!! Which she would give me a tin even after she stopped baking💜💜💜. Although she put walnuts on top!!
I make it with matzo crackers....they are thinner and more delicate than the saltines - but anything with melted butter, sugar and chocolate is going to be delish!
I love this recipe! My grandma always made hers using Ritz crackers. It gives a bit of a softer crack and chew so if you have sensitive teeth that may be an option 😊 Yours looks delicious though! ❤
One of my fave recipes to make during the holidays. We call it fake Skor bars but also Christmas Crack as well. Definitely 100% better with saltine crackers.
You're speaking my language! Candied bacon vanilla ice cream is my jam! Ooo then with some some of that crumbled ontop woooo my imaginations going wild 😆
That sounds good but also maybe difficult to pull off maybe easier sprinkling with mini marshmallows or maybe heat up or thin marshmallow spread and drizzle ontop maybe
I add mini-marshmallows over top after all the steps...just so they bubble and turn tan. The crumbly debris after pieces are taken is perfect as ice cream topping.
I found that the milk chocolate morsels does not set well even after being in the frig-- I have better luck with the semi sweet chocolate morsels. That being said - these are delicious.
I like QUICK and SIMPLE recipes like this one. Thank you. Someone suggested turning the crackers with the salted side DOWN. Gonna try THIS! Make more simple stuff for us but DON'T use METAL spoon! PURTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON IT!!
I know what you're getting in your Christmas 🎄 stocking 🧦...... no, not a lump of coal.....a wooden spoon! LOL 😉 ........ Looks yummy 😋! Thank you for sharing this recipe. Merry Christmas 🎄☃️❄️ and Happy New Year 🎉🥂🎇.
I'm going to make this today. I have had this before. And it is really good. But today I am going to try something different. I'm going to substitute the chocolate morsels with Butterscotch morsels . I do believe that this will work very well with the saltiness of the crackers . I also intend to make this recipe using Graham crackers. And once I have my Carmel base applied, Sprinkle with Sea Salt. Then use Peanut butter morsels for the top part. I anticipate that this version will be undeniably delicious ! I'm loving this Crack Candy recipe. It is so diverse and many versions can be made to your liking. I'm also currently thinking on how to make a version of this using White Chocolate. Does anyone have any ideas ? Hmm . Maybe Ritz crackers ? We'll see !
@@midcoastmunchies Thanks ! I'm all about making & having some Christmas Munchies ! Just so you know. TH-cam suggested your video to me. So they are putting it out there. Good Luck on your channel ! And Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
You sure could i'm not sure how much it would clash with the caramel flavor, you maybe better off just making a peppermint bark of sorts instead but it's worth a try!
Work with me here for a moment - I made this and it came out crunchy like a heath bar ( which I loved! ) but the smoke alarm kept going off from the oven. Right now I'm mobility impaired and hopping between fanning the alarm and the oven took its toll. Instead I would like to use a heat gun for embossing, they get really hot. If you are still with me and aren't rolling your eyes while you roll on the floor laughing at me, I truly would like your opinions!
If it came out hard that would mean too hot or on the heat too long and definitely nothing should be smoking so I'd use half the heat and less time during any of those steps if you try it again
Some ground pecan and cake colored chocolate would make it decorative also with the graham crackers how about miniature marshellos chocolate hershey special dark make consour taste s'mores
I used gluten free Schaar Table Crackers, added a little carmel extract, used 70% dark cocoa chips and topped with chopped pecans and a pinch of course sea salt. I cut mine so they are all uniform in size. I made it for church. It was so good I ended up eating the whole thing in 2 days. I stored in fridge to keep fresh and so I wouldn’t see it on the counter. How about making it with graham crackers and finish the top with a nice flakey salt? Or alternate the type of crackers on the bottom. You know one graham one saltine etc.? Shoot, the skies the limit with this type of recipe
I'm sure it's good with the extras I really like it as is, sometimes simple is good let's you taste the caramel and chocolate with a little salty crunch from the crackers 😋
I personally have not ever had it last more than a few days so I'm not positive but I would say it would be good for a week , 2 sounds a little on the long side the crackers would also probably lose their crunch by then aswell!
when I make this, I use the Keebler Club crackers, since they have that buttery taste, I also cook pecan pieces in the butter/brown sugar mixture/ I agree - Ghirardelli chocolate chips bring it to a higher level
Oh My Goodness...... I know those crackers and I am going to have to grab some to try that I bet that's even another level of amazing!
I was thinking it was odd that he preferred "Ghirardelli" chocolate, but uses saltine crackers. I agree that Keebler Club Crackers would be so much better. Might as well go all out on the crackers. LOL!
Good idea! I'm going to try it this way this year

OMG...DUDE USE A WOODEN SPOON
METAL TO METAL 😟
I also use chopped pecans!
Might need to make 2 batches of this! 1 for the kids & 1 with infused butter😋
😮 You, my dear, are the kind of people we need more of! I’m gonna make a batch at the Airbnb when my best friend and I head to Colorado for her 50th birthday in January! 🤩😍
Spot on! I'd make a 3rd so after you have batch 2 you'll have some you can just munch on lol otherwise it could get dangerous!
I made this over the holidays & people raved about it.
And yes, it is so easy.
Thanks
Id use shortbread cookies to make it more like a Twix!
That sounds great!
The sound of that spoon was driving me 😵💫😖
Yes! Geez Louise sir please buy a silicone covered wisk or even a spatula. . Not metal on metal if you want people to watch your videos.
I assure you it bothered me just as much while editing lol NOTED!
ME ALSO! I commented on it!
Me too… wooden spoon?

Do you the semi sweet or milk chocolate ones. I got both. Does it matter?
@@milissas.8364 either will work I go semi because the rest is so sweet but still great either way!

Pretzels would be a tasty version too!!
I 200% agree!
Saltines, caramel, and chocolate. 🤤
My daughter's friend brought some over last Christmas. I had no idea they were this easy to make! So delicious!

I make it with matzo crackers....they are thinner and more delicate than the saltines - but anything with melted butter, sugar and chocolate is going to be delish!
Yum that just leaves more room for sugar and chocolate lol
And, that is why it's called "crack" very addictive.
Very!
Pretzels instead of crackers. And then white chocolate chips. That is the best
That does sound good!
Yum!!! I bet you could use white chocolate chips and scatter red and green sprinkles over that!!!
I think you're onto something!
Hey, necessity is the mother of invention, right!?! And good munchies!😁
Looks delicious! PLEASE use wooden or plastic spoon. That metal spoon is like scratching on blackboard with nails
Im on it!
Use graham crackers but hit the caramel layer with some sea salt. Yummy!
My mouth is watering!
My late Mom would make these and they were always a hit🎄
Always a Hit!
Hi, nice recipe and looks very tasty
Thanks a lot

The way we do it is to add toasted pecans on top before the chocolate cools. Also, I use Ritz crackers.
Oooo I bet the Ritz are good too!
I like cinnamon grahams sometimes, saltines are a fav
I've been known to munch on cinnamon grahams on occasion soooo goood!
Once boils. Don’t touch for 3 min. Xnay on the scratching of the pot. Great recipe

But you turn off the heat to it?
If you use graham crackers, you can sprinkle the chocolate layer with sea salt.
NEEDS MORE CHOCOLATE CHIPS, MORE ❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you reverse the crackers, so the salty top is on the bottom, they taste better!
take graham crackers and cover with caramello bars.heat in oven then spread it over.

Some people are using small pretzels for the base, too.🧑
Christmas crack needs Christmas sprinkles, crushed peanuts, coconut etc on top as soon as the chocolate is melted and spread
