I’m a vita sicko who has had the system since 2012 and never one jail broke it. I own 400+ games physically and still have more left to collect. My favorite system of all time.
I'm considering getting one next year but I'm not sure if I have much use for it as I doubt I'd enjoy the indie games tbh. I like my fps games ,need for speeds ,fifas etc but idk if I should get it just for that
Not enough support from Sony and other devs killed it... It simply cost too much to make games on a PS 2.5-power console, when they could have just been making regular games for the PS3 or upcoming PS4. Honestly I think it's the best handheld ever made, before the Switch or SteamDeck. Not to mention super expensive yet limited storage lmao.
Hit the nail on the head, Sony really just fumbled the ball. The memory card situation in particular was so absurd, still can't believe they charged $120 for 32gigs lol
It was just too early for it’s time. If it had come out even a year or 2 later things could’ve been much different. I still use my vita occasionally to this day and have used it to stream from my ps4/ps5
You're right that developing for the Vita was expensive, but calling it a 'PS2.5-power' console isn't accurate. The PS Vita was actually much more powerful than the PS2, with hardware closer to the PlayStation 3 in terms of graphics and processing. It had a custom ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a GPU similar to the PS3, which allowed for impressive visuals for a handheld. The real challenge for developers was the high cost and the niche market, along with the proprietary memory cards. Plus, most of the PS3 ports that came to the Vita looked and played terribly due to poor optimization, which hurt the Vita's reputation even more. Despite its power, it was hard to justify development for a system that didn’t have as large a player base as the PS3 or PS4
The first console I bought with my first part time job after deliberating between Sony or Nintendo. I was so disappointed with the lack of game released.
I remember having a blast playing all these games. Especially Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 where I can just just play for a few matches whenever I have free time
I just got my Vita in September and I love it. Mine is from eBay and pre-hacked so all the games are free and easily accessible through pkgj, Adrenaline is amazing for PSP and PSX games, the buttons, joysticks, touchpad, etc. are in great condition and are satisfying to use, I could go on and on about how great this thing is! I had a PSP growing up and love that the Vita is essentially a better PSP with access to a whole other library of games as well. I've been playing Persona 4 Golden, Telltale's The Walking Dead, LEGO Indy, and Lumines Electronic Symphony in bed lately, and have been having a blast!
10:36 The XMB UI was not from the PlayStation 3, the PlayStation Portable came out 2 years prior and even before the PlayStation Portable, Sony released a Japanese exclusive DVR/Console hybrid called the PSX which was the first device to feature that UI.
I got my first vita on April of this year from Japan and uh boy have i enjoyed my time with it, the console still hold great by today standards (besides de L2,R2) most games run at a steady 30FPS and even if some don't with homebrew is really easy to get them to, I have really had a great time playing games like uncharted, killzone, batman and MK9.
I still use my release day OLED. Still one of my favorite gaming devices. I also have the slim and the PSTV. I kept the OLED original, modded the slim.
I love my PS Vita OLed 1000 still rocks. I picked up this iconic device in Akihabara Japan last April not cheap but it’s a trophy buy from the Land of the rising sun.
The most frustrating thing is, that even with the rumoured new PS portable being developed, there isn't going to be real 'succesor' to the Vita. This mostly comes down to the time the vita was made, and like you said, was trying to compete with smart phones as an all in one entertainment device. The PSP and Vita could do so much more than game. Specifically, the Vita, you could transfer music and movies to it, and use either cable or bluetooth for the audio. And the music player was actually thought out to work with the whole system. So if you're playing a music, you leave the player and open a game, some games automatically turn off their in game music. And that is still an amazing and easy experience we won't get with the new portable, since I doubt they will allow the same ease of access to tranfer files from computer to vita like before. And will focus more on streaming services like Spotify and Netflix. It felt like all the best of entertainment on a specifically entertainment focused device. It was basically the walkman for me.
Incredible system. Bought one in 2015 to play Persona 4 Golden and never looked back. Played through a few PS1 games on it too! Probably the most underrated handheld we'll ever see aside from the neo geo pocket color
I bought my Vita a month before I deployed to Afghanistan. The console made it through the year like a champ, and I got it refurbished after I got home (new screen, housing, battery). I still play it on a regular basis, with it being full of GBA, PSP, and vita games. Fantastic console despite Sony's attempts to kill it.
Having had both the oled and slim models, the thicker oled verson fit really my hands better, regardless of the model, I love the feel of the buttons on the vita. They felt just right. A real shame that there weren't many AAA titles released for it. At least I'm in the demographic of odd Japanese/indie games enjoyers, so I was served well enough.
I still own my vita and play on it every once in a while Back in the day I bought it cos I had purchased quite a lot of PS One classic games on the PS3 and read that you could play them on the Vita as well if you already owned them. So I got one for that purpose but ended up getting hooked on Vita games too.
My favorite game on the Vita. My coworker and I used to play during lunch adhoc, and once we got home, we would play online together. I know I probably put at least 100 hours into it:
Even with the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, etc. The PS Vita was ahead of its time! I know if Sony made a modem version with more love it would be amazing!
Last Friday 13th I saw one at a local thrift. It was marked untested, no charger. I offered them $10 and they took it. Drove right over to a GameStop and asked the teen behind the counter if they possibly had a used charger. She literally asked what a vita was… The manager came over and explained he could probably order one for me, meanwhile zip clicks McGee over there chimes in “is this it?” She found one listed as “Nintendo-Sony USB” in their inventory and went and pulled it from the back room. I’ve had a lot of fun modding it. I play to keep from boredom while dashing. My set up is glass mounted holder so it’s floating, played with a ps4 controller. I’m in love, but I’m looking forward to modding a switch I’m looking at. Just for a bigger screen really, and the benefit of trying some new games. However the only thing that could make mobile gaming better for me is to play some ps3 gen zombies. Steam deck? Idk
Freedom wars was what made me get a vita and I just saw it was getting a remaster today for pc p4 and 5 and switch such a good game if you get a vita or if you pick up the remake when it drops
The vita is the biggest Sony casualty of bad management from this era. i had gotten mine around Christmas 2012-2013 when I was12/13, and I own two Vitas and the Vita TV now. Absolutely fantastic devices and had Sony been willing to pump some more effort in it really could have been special. I'm looking at the rumors for a new Sony handheld and I honestly don't know how it's going to work in modern day with the Switch (God forbid a Steam Deck that can play more playstation games from over the years than a Ps5 can natively at this point). Point is, this thing will always be my favorite console ever in my heart
I loved the Vita but the Switch Lite surpassed it in almost all aspects. If only it had an OLED screen like the Vita. Switch OLED is too bulky to really be compared to a Vita. Lately I’ve actually gone back to playing the PSP.
I remember buying first buying the 3G OLED vita when it first came out (also never using 3G since I never bought a data line for it) and very much enjoyed how advanced it was for a handheld, the perfect opponent for the 3DS.. After a few years I traded it, don't remember if I got something else but I forgot about it for years. I wound up buying a Slim open box, either from Ebay or even Gamestop. I don't understand how the thing has such amazing standby battery life and the PS2 collection games are just so fun to play. I wasn't nostalgic for the PS2 and I still loved the crap out of those collections
I lovemy Vita. Bought it in the call of duty bundle. But probably spent most of my time playing the god of war games from the PS2 and the PS P. I started collecting them when they got cheap. So I have an original OLED and a slim both still stock. And then bought another slim and modded it. I still use my modded slim all the time. Like you said it’s a great standalone companion.
I just started the video but i wanna say that i never had a Vita but recently with the jailbreak and emulation scene it has caught my eye way more than before. I think it is great sized handheld with good aesthetics and i think i want to get one to emulate old games on it
Never owned a vita but damn its still so underrated it got some of the most unique games like gravity rush, freedom wars, soul sacrifice and so on sony really didn't do it justice it had so much potential
I wish it wasn’t discontinued because finding a decent PS Vita is hard. I found one that looks new but the charging port was broken so I always have to move the charger around trying to get the thing to charge.
I always wanted a vita and a psp when I was younger. My little cousin had them and I was so jealous. However I spent most of my time at home so luckily I had a PlayStation. I still kind of want one. Hopefully we get another one soon. The switch looks cool but there’s not any games I want to play on it.
Objection, the 3G Vita is the best model cause you can replace the 3G modem with an SD card slot. I have 256 GB in mine, and can still use the cartridge slot
The missed opportunity for the PSvita was at least have it 1 or 2 GB RAM, then it would've been the ultimate emulation handheld on the go. But sadly, it has limits, and the community needed to optimize the games to port in vita and emulator apps aswell.
I like the free game store that is available if you mod the PsVita. I was able to get so many games that I otherwise would not have been able to afford by doing this. I was also able to add my entire PSP digital library, which is awesome. I was also able to add many PSOne games as well. I also love the emulation capabilities for older consoles like SNES and NES and much more which is pretty awesome too.😊
I'm not a Sony fan, but i love portable consoles so i got a PSVita, and was able to get a lot a really old games for it. Oh, and some PSVita games too.
The only regret i have is buying digital games only for my Vita, i would've loved a physical collection, im not going to make that same mistake with my Switch Lite 😊
Both the 3DS and the PS Vita both had a terrible start but Nintendo made a quick comeback by cutting the price and making a great selection of games. Thanks to all the mobile technology that was in the Vita and because of the OLED screen a price cut was not so easy, the slim was the only solution, and the games were also a problem because Sony did not have a Separate smaller team that makes handheld games like Nintendo does. Nintendo had such a big lead with the 3DS that Sony knew they had lost and so they gave up on the PS Vita
The only issue i have with the oled screen is the fact that it will eventually need replaced. The only reason being is this was a console known for the edges of the screen to eventually turn orange, especially towards the charging port where there was an excess of heat.
For the 4 missing bumper buttons that can be fixed with an attachment. Also Psp’s UI is not from ps3 its the other way around since psp came out before ps3
Yah the biggest issue was storage back in the day i got the slim because the og was too expensive, mine came with an 8gigs memory and couldn't really buy lots of games cuz of that and even today memories are still expensive, bought the og a year or two ago and was amazed by the colors and how premium it felt, unfortunately the cartiage slot doesn't allow me to insert game cards nor an sdtovita card anymore it keeps pushing them out dunno what to do about it such a bummer to go back to game on the slim😔
I can't be the only weirdo who has 4 PS Vitas right...? I actually just did a stick replacement on one of them after the stick started drifting, and a couple outdated apps aside, you wouldn't know it's coming up on 15 years old!
I have 3. Started off with a metallic red 2000 slim and loved it but always saw comparisons with the OLED model and knew I had to have one. I got a white 1000 from Japan which is so sleek and a couple years later I really wanted a black 1000 which is where I’m at now. I bought them all brand new and they’re all 3 still in mint condition. I’ll love the Vita till the day I die.
@@MadnessMan13 awesome! I started with a new white 1000 that came bundled with Assassin's Creed Liberation, then a new lime-green 2000, and then a used metallic red and a used metallic silver 2000 simultaneously a few years after that. Only the two I bought new are in mint condition unfortunately...though the red and silver aren't bad at all since they came from Japan. Now, another 4 years later, just a couple days ago I pulled the trigger on a sapphire blue 1000 😅
Giving it that touch screen on the rear was an absolute gimmick. How were you supposed to use Remote Play on a PS4 when you didn't have the same set of buttons?
Bought my first PS-VITA SLIM (2000) in late December 2019... From a PawnShop... Few months later, Modded and the rest is "HistorY"... Fun never end... 🙃🤣🧐🤓😎🤯
Even though i hacked it. I still dont know any good games to get..these days i just use my Galaxy fold And ppsspp to emulate games in hd and it looks brilliant.
I was a hardcore Sony fan, but then abandoning the Vita is the only reason I will bot buy anything from Sony. For a Japanese company they do some of the weirdest and dumbest things I have ever seen. The thumb sticks seem like they are awkward to use. They look too low. Cramping up thumbs would kill my play time, making this a useless device for me.
Yes!!!!! My cuzn has a steam deck..and a vita.... NOT ME.. ..the vita is lighter, quick to carry, fun games a modded psvita...is the BEST twisted metal, fight night, aliens... GENISIS SUPERNINTENDO and other stuff that's NOT MINE...ITS MY COUSINS😂😂😂😂❤
I still have my vita that came with black ops. Remember how disappointed I was with how toned down black ops was. I got that tennis game cheap and spent hours playing it 😂 dragon ball on it and killzone was amazing! Also used it for Skype, TH-cam and movies. It was the best thing I ever owned as a teenager, a shop near us had the SD cards on clearance since Sony cancelled it and I got the SD cards for super cheap!
I only ever bought 4 cards for the Vita - Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Final Fantasy X, and Need for Speed Most Wanted. The rest of the software library just didn't interest me.
Today marks the 30th anniversary of PlayStation - and so it only felt right to give some credence to the most underrated Sony console ever made, at least in my opinion. Did any of you ever own the PS Vita?

The Vita was a godsend on breaks when I worked retail as a teenager
I Used to work overnights at a grocery store when I was 19 and played it all night lmao.
I got these out of storage 2 oleds and install vita c to make usbc chargers also have a tb sd card with all the games and emulators is a beast

@ I do indeed

You’re missing out not jailbreaking bud… PORTABLE AMIGA!!!
Weird flex. Modded can get all games free. Waste your money tho!
My word... The 3DS had a dedicated TH-cam app longer than the Vita.
There’s another one on the hacked store that works just fine 😊
That is insane now that I think about it

I bought a pre-owned OLED model from Gamestop back in 2019. Literally the LAST Vita I ever saw at that store. I've never regretted the purchase.
I had a Vita OLED back in 2014. Lots of fun with the system
The first console I bought with my first part time job after deliberating between Sony or Nintendo. I was so disappointed with the lack of game released.
I saw someone playing a Vita in public just a couple weeks ago, I was stunned. It was while I was in line for a ride at Disney

Got my first Vita the day before you uploaded this, it is absolutely amazing once modded, spent $150 for the Vita, sd card, and sd adapter.
I bought myself a PS Vita 2000 this year just to play Muramasa Rebirth + DLCs and other games that I have missed out on.
I still use my release day OLED. Still one of my favorite gaming devices. I also have the slim and the PSTV.

The only issue i have with the oled screen is the fact that it will eventually need replaced. The only reason being is this was a console known for the edges of the screen to eventually turn orange, especially towards the charging port where there was an excess of heat.
Yes that's exactly what's happening to my oled edition.
I need to get a slim , I've always wanted one so heck why not .
I still use mine for jrpgs.
LittleBigPlanet is my favorite game on the vita
🙃🤣🧐🤓😎🤯
İdk why used vita prices increase like crazy almost same price with switch
Put it simply :
"There's no reason NOT TO HACK PSVita"
Even though i hacked it. I still dont know any good games to get..these days i just use my Galaxy fold And ppsspp to emulate games in hd and it looks brilliant.
great video🔥
i still use my oled model a lot, ive been playing gravity rush
I was a hardcore Sony fan, but then abandoning the Vita is the only reason I will bot buy anything from Sony. For a Japanese company they do some of the weirdest and dumbest things I have ever seen. The thumb sticks seem like they are awkward to use. They look too low. Cramping up thumbs would kill my play time, making this a useless device for me.
Would I still have access to the ps store and play online if i mod my vita slim? I could really use an sd card on there
I've just ordered a pre loaded Vita from the Sumo store. In orange.
Vita ftw.
I can see the Vita gonna go up in price now there's talk of a new ps handheld get yours now before you get ripped off
Sly cooper 😭 man
I still have my vita that came with black ops.
I just discovered a port of Hollow Knight for the PS VITA and have been using the Vita so much since. Such a shame Sony gave it the Google treatment
pls the the name of the song?? 1:27
I tried to reverse search it and didn't find the actual song but ended up finding one that kind of sounds similar: Omar by Bayonne
Switch UI can’t be forgotten that’s how Basic it was lol
3:00 sailing the seven seas actually cracked me up 🤣 and im not one to comment on videos but this is an exception
P4 golden music 😮
I loved my Vita up until it killed itself sadly it's boot looping and won't stop and I can't get it fixed 😢
I only ever bought 4 cards for the Vita - Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Final Fantasy X, and Need for Speed Most Wanted. The rest of the software library just didn't interest me.
I used to use remote play to play Bloodborne pvp while pooping.
I still have my vita. Building small game library 😅
