13:30 "Garbage Mask" haha, this is exactly how my mind works too. Also, to save time, with the layer selected, you can hit Ctrl / Cmd + G to throw it inside the group and save a couple seconds
Thank you Anthony. I've been following you for long time. Despite Iam experienced real estate photographer I love to improve and learn more. Your teaching skills are very good and you offer lots of valuable information. Keep up the good work! By the way I would love to see some videos about drone photography and editing those images as well as filming real estates and video edit in Davinci Resolve. :)
Brilliant, thank you. One of the best editing tutorial I have come across and a great overview of Lumenzia and Nik Collection. A great pace and all explained so well. Is it possible that you could do something similar for a landscape image using these 2 tools. Pricing and how licencing works would also be appreciated.
Hi Anthony - enjoying your videos immensely. You have opened my eyes to alternatives beside the flambient technique. Also have discovered Lumenzia through you. I was wondering how you created the new layer 1 above Group 3 at the 16:45 min mark in this Video? Keep up the excellent work and you have an avid subscriber with me. Looking forward in the future to seeing how you handle flash as I have the Godox AD600 also.
Hi John. Good question! It's the good ol' monster shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + E. A gem of a shortcut, it takes everything below the active layer and stamps it into a new layer.
Morning Anthony, do you use lumenzia panel? Do you think it's worth getting for learning how to edit my own real estate photography photos as well as architectural editing 🤔 thanks mate, Bryan
Morning! I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/abhXyD5gBk0/w-d-xo.html if you like the look of it I've got a link in the description. Much appreciated if you'd help me out by using that. Also the instructional videos on luminosity blending that can come with it are an excellent resource from the guy, Greg, who created the panel.
Another great way to bring in some contrast and punch with Lumenzia is making a midtones curve then change the blend mode to soft light and lifting the shadows a bit
Just a bit of clarity on the technique... what mask option are you suggesting for the midtone boosted curves layer? one of the M (midtone ranges)? Cheers.
I use both. The control is greater with this method which I like, but Aurora (bit.ly/3gBvnQy) is still quicker and the results are usually pretty bloody good.
Great video Anthony! I have a quick question, I just downloaded lumenzia for the luminosity masking but I can't seem to get the panel to show up in photoshop. Any suggestions? Much appreciated.
Nah, no need. With the way I shoot and the corrections in post I just can't justify the investment. Besides, I also like being able to change my focal length on my wide angle zoom. The fixed aspect of a tilt shift kinda puts me off and I really don't want to have to front up for a range of tilt/shift lenses with a range of focal lengths. The day I get a client unhappy with what I'm producing I'll reconsider, but until then I'll keep rocking my nice and sharp 16-35mm and adjust in post.
The only difference is less flexibility if you want to make further adjustments on your layers. If they're not smart objects you'll no longer be able to access the raw data.
Hi Tyler usually +1, +2 and -1 -2 as a set of 5. If I percive the contrast to be greater, ie more dynamic range in the scene then I'll occasionally push to 7 or even 9 brackets just to cover myself. It's usually overkill but I'd sooner have data to throw away than realised I missed my brightest highlights for example... Cheers for watching. I've been in a bit of a rut recently so it's nice to get positive feedback. Thanks 👊😀
Hey Anthony, great video. Am working my way through the process but am seemingly getting some MILKY results when attempting to blend in a much brighter expsoure. Shadows seem absolutely fine but in some instances the highlights bits just looks plain wrong. I can get it to a usable spot with feathering, opacity, etc but it's still not as accurate. Any idea?
Hi Keith, it's a complicated process where several things can affect the final result. If you head to my architecture editing channel I cover the steps in a few videos along with trouble shooting.
Hi Anthony! I have thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial on merging HDRs and although I still find the process very complex, I feel like I am starting to get a good understanding of the steps used here. Do you shoot HDR in raw format or JPG? sorry this may seem like a silly question but I am still fairly new to the process. Thank you!
Hi Feriel. I always shoot my pro work in raw. Occasionally I'll convert and merge jpegs to speed up the process if I'm working on a bulk load of images but for exposure blending like in this vid, always raw.
Great tutorial! I’m trying this for the first time and the result is pretty bad in the highlights I’m trying to mask in. Does the base image need to have the highlights completely blown out for this to work properly?
Hi Chris. No not at all. It's a pretty in depth topic and takes practice to get good results. In the link for the panel I mention there's an option for training that goes with it made by the creator. Seriously worth getting if you want to go further with this technique and get good results 👍.
Thank you Anthony for such amazing content! I loved what you did here, i was one of those with the manual masking:-() - I have a question for you: I had to try this on one of my bracketed sets of photographs - however, the L mask it creates does not blend very well at all with the base layer. Are there some sets of bracketed photos that this method will just not work with?
Hi Kelly! 👋 I haven't come across any sets I couldn't blend yet... a lot comes down to preparing the different exposure layers correctly. I may do some more vids in the future going over some of this in a bit more detail...
@@theturnhams3905 Thanks Anthony! Absolutely another video on this process would be awesome. Focusing on the prep of the images in Lightroom as I think that’s where I’m going wrong. Thank you for your channel your work is amazing. Oh, yes Pricing - I’m now breaking into the architectural photography world. Just yesterday I had a discussion with a builder that is using a real estate photographer to do their photography and paying real estate pricing. I’m holding out saying if he is happy with the work stay there, but there is a difference when you use a professional architectural photographer for this work. I let him know that I would be able to do the work for the price he is currently paying. Thank you Anthony. E.
Glad you added that correction Eric. I was concerned you were going to be underselling yourself and cheapening your service. Good man. Hold out for the appropriate remuneration... and if this one doesn't work out, keep building a strong portfolio and the work will come... 😉😀👍
Thanks for these amazing tutorials. You really helped me improve my workflow. I did purchase Lumenzia but I am facing 2 issues. The first one is that at the end of workflow, the file created is so big that I can’t save it and re-export to LR. Second, once blended my final photo seems washed out and I lose all the sharpness it had before. Any mistake I make to end with that result?
Hi mate. Go for a .psb file which will allow you to save beyond the normal 2gb psd limit. The newer versions of Lightroom now support psb. Also consider discarding layers that are no longer necessary. I keep my psb and all layers out of habit but tbh it's sooooo rare that I ever revisit them after I've delivered work to a client. Therefore I may as well have just saved a jpeg, deleted the psd/psb saved myself a lot of storage over the years and moved on! Regarding softness after blending, it shouldn't happen if the layers are properly aligned. Shoot with a sturdy AF tripod and if necessary, use auto align (or the align feature in Lumenzia before you start.
@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks for your quick answer. Will try .psb. As for softness, I do use a Manfrotto tripod and of course align all layers before proceeding. Maybe I should look closer in the way I edit my photos in LRC before exporting to PS. Thanks again and please keep posting these very interesting tutorials. Cheers from Marrakesh.
Good question. Ctrl+G to group the selected layers, and then the monster shortcut CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+E to create a new layer from the visible ones below (probably my fav shortcut!).
Hello, congratulations on your work, I will use a translator since I do not speak English, could you have the same results in Luminar AI of this photo or architectural photos? I have followed several of your Luminar AI tutorial videos, I am an architect and it would be very interesting to see it in Luminar AI since it is a very friendly program, I also have AURORA Hdr and I do not know if it would be a good complement before I start developing these photographs with Luminar AI? Greetings from Colombia, thanks for your videos !!!
Hi there. Good question! You can certainly get a good result similar to this by combining bracketed sets in Aurora and then run the processing in Luminar. I've done a couple of videos touching on similar techniques for architecture with Luminar and Aurora
@@AnthonyTurnham Thank you very much, would you have a link to these videos? because I don't speak English well and it is a little more difficult to look for them, thanks for your help, congratulations for your channel!
Hi Anthony! I'm having a weird issue: the mask doesn't match properly with the photo and the result is an awkward ghost effect with the mask slightly shifted. The photos are identical (I shot with tripod and remote control) and in PS I pressed shift while moving the photos into one single window. This happened with different batches... Do you have any clue why I get this mistake? Thank you very much!
Even on a tripod there is a chance of image alignment being off. The shutter going of can sometimes shift it. The best thing to do is zoom right in and check before you make any masks. You could flick between layers or drop the opacity of the one on top to 50% to double check. Photoshop has an auto align feature that is good to use if they are out. Let me know how you go!
Hi Anthony, I've been using and loving Lumenzia for some time now, but I've always opened my brackets as layers in PS from LR and then clicked preblend. What is your reasoning and benefits of opening the brackets as smart objects?
Perhaps the pre-blend method does this (I've not been using the panel that long). But I always like to leave my layers with their raw data intact. At least for the initial blend. Then if I want to change the shadows or highlights after loading them into PS I double click, make an adjustment in ACR, and the layer updates non-destructively. Good question. I'll look into preblend, but if it's loading flat layers from LR I'll stick with this method.
Absolutely love your videos! But I did those steps but my image before clicking mask turns out so muddy and strange don´t know why... :( Thinking better I think is because I make 3 exposures, but they are bracketed too far one from the others I think thats the problem, going to try to photos with exposures more "near", the F-Stop, I think thats the term If I´m not wrong
Hi Diogo. Send me a screen shot of what you did and I'll take a look for you... anthonyeditsyourphotos@gmail.com Send me enough info so I can see what's going on. Perhaps a b4 and after and the layers you're trying to combine. You can send the original files too if you like. Cheers.
@@AnthonyTurnham Hey Anthony! Now I see results! I did brackets of 1F-Stop difference and your lightroom sugestion and now the blend you accurate, The others time its that I was using brackets to far from the 1 F-Stop difference, and then obvously they don´t blend to well, I was doing on super dark to save the highlights from the outside and one super bright for the interior and one base, but too far out from the 1 F-Stop difference, But now I understand right! Thanks again for the help! Love your content, it was been super helpful for my editing process
You can still use this technique. The grills on the window when viewed from inside would be darker than the exterior right? So you'd still have a luminosity difference for this approach to work with.
Hi Allison. Cut them out, paste them individually to new layers, then use transform to re-shape them (distort or perspective option etc.). I showed the technique in a hanging light fixture in another architecture vid. I think it was this one: th-cam.com/video/Zw2FR0LRyIE/w-d-xo.html
@@AnthonyTurnham This will work sometimes. Especially when the walls are bland. But is there a way to get this done when the walls or backgrounds are busy?
Hi Sophie, I'm releasing my new architectural videos over on bit.ly/ATArchitecture I haven't done one specifically on pricing as yet as I've only had about 15 or so requests but I have touched on it more in some of my recent vids.
Hi Anthony I bought this lumezia. but i do something wrong.. the image is getting very mudy -washed out, even i use this double masking. i tryed every L and every D... specially in the bright areas. the trees looking very strange and the colors fade out. can you help me? could i send you a screenshot so you can see what i mean? Thanks =)
Hi Marcel. Please send the images (your originals you're merging and your edited version) through to anthonyeditsyourphotos@gmail.com and I'll try and take a look for you. I'm exceptionally swamped with commitments at the moment but I'll try for you. Also if you revisit bit.ly/3dpGeub Greg Benz who makes the panel does an exceptional video course on how to get the most out of the panel and exposure blending in general. His course has much more detail than I could ever do justice to on youtube. Also there's a lot of problem solving video content that talk specifically about the kind of issue you've described. I bought it - and it's rare I learn new editing info these days, but I found his approach to be very informative and I even picked up some new knowledge so it gets my seal of approval! 😉👍
You can use the same concept. Select the dark range with bit.ly/3dpGeub and then just give it a brightening bump with the curves. Then mask out any areas that you don't want it applied to. Once you get the idea it's really simple to just repeat the process for the area you want to address, whether that's highlights, shadows or midtones. If this is work you do regularly I'd strongly recommend the panel to help you make your selections quickly and accurately.
I can’t try this out in Photoshop because after adding layers as Smart Objects from Lightroom, there’s no way to re-dock them. Is there a setting I need to check off? What am I missing here? I have PS 2022 using a Mac Pro.
@@AnthonyTurnham I’ve tried everything, click and dragged it everywhere at the top. Looked up redocking with no luck. I feel really stupid as this should be simple but I’ve never been able to re-dock a document after moving it. No problem redocking layer or channel panel. Update: Ha! I finally figured this out after many months. It was a setting not clicked. Sorry to have bothered you with something so mundane. Great videos!
Hi Alan. Hmmm... try jumping into the smart layer representing the highlights and add more contrast through the raw filter. If you're still unsure I'd recommend the set of videos that are available through that link to Lumenzia. Greg Benz has put some really in depth guides including trouble shooting.

Thinking better I think is because I make 3 exposures, but they are bracketed too far one from the others I think thats the problem, going to try to photos with exposures more "near", the F-Stop, I think thats the term If I´m not wrong
Hi Diogo. Send me a screen shot of what you did and I'll take a look for you... anthonyeditsyourphotos@gmail.com
Send me enough info so I can see what's going on. Perhaps a b4 and after and the layers you're trying to combine. You can send the original files too if you like. Cheers.
@@AnthonyTurnham ok! I will do that! Thanks!

How to blend widow mask .. when it have many more white grills
You can still use this technique. The grills on the window when viewed from inside would be darker than the exterior right? So you'd still have a luminosity difference for this approach to work with.
Overall a nice video. Anyone know how to make those lights on top left perfect rounds?
But is there a way to get this done when the walls or backgrounds are busy?
watched his - did you end up putting out another video going deeper into pricing?
Hi Sophie, I'm releasing my new architectural videos over on bit.ly/ATArchitecture
I haven't done one specifically on pricing as yet as I've only had about 15 or so requests but I have touched on it more in some of my recent vids.
Pricing model please, including how to generate costs to clients other than the original buyer. Thanks!
A pricing video would be greatly appreciated.
I see some dark patches in the ceiling areas. How do you fix that?
Hi holly. No special trick to it. Are you sure you're dragging the new docs to the correct bit of the frame inside the program?
@@AnthonyTurnham I’ve tried everything, click and dragged it everywhere at the top. Looked up redocking with no luck. I feel really stupid as this should be simple but I’ve never been able to re-dock a document after moving it. No problem redocking layer or channel panel.
Update: Ha! I finally figured this out after many months. It was a setting not clicked. Sorry to have bothered you with something so mundane. Great videos!

I hit "like" before watching the video, who does the same? haha
Pricing please. Thanks
Pricing! I realize this video is already a year old, is there a pricing video already out that I missed? Thanks!
No matter what I do the highlights have a milky appearance compared to the regular way I mask in the hight layers.
Hi Alan. Hmmm... try jumping into the smart layer representing the highlights and add more contrast through the raw filter. If you're still unsure I'd recommend the set of videos that are available through that link to Lumenzia. Greg Benz has put some really in depth guides including trouble shooting.
@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks for getting back to me, would love to see some videos on your marketing, pricing and contracts some day. Best.
