CORRECTIONS: 1. Weather tokens are placed on the SECOND tile and onward, which means the left-most trail tile shouldn't have a weather token on it. 2. At 40:02 the purple player forgets to flip their campfire token over when visiting an occupied location. 3. At 48:45 Green should have received one water from the current "Season of Reefs" card because they took at least one forest token on their turn.
Great video. Your way of explaining the rules as you go instead of overloading at the beginning makes for a very enjoyable learning experience. And keeping a 3-player playthrough under 1 hour while doing that is quite impressive. I have been eyeing this game based on the art alone but after watching this I think it's definitely worth purchasing. Thanks!
My gosh.. not gonna lie, I was apprehensive about watching the whole thing after I saw it was an hour. But honestly I’m a bit dual learner, and this was so comprehensive, I’m really grateful you made it! Thank you for referencing all of the canteen and gear cards so nothing was lost on the viewer. Really helpful video - thank you so much for making it!!
I know that the length of my videos is one of the biggest barriers my channel has towards new viewers. My style of teaching while playing simply takes more time but I do think it does a better job of teaching than a strict rules teach because seeing how everything clicks together really helps remember rules. That's the case for me anyway, and I'm glad it worked for you as well :)
I've been looking for this game for quite some time, but it's been just a little expensive. Well, after watching your video, I decided it was worth the price and bought it.
Great job as usual, Jon. This is the second tutorial I watch about parks but only with yours I managed to follow till the end (skipping part of the play) and understand the rules. Thx a lot!
Great video! I actually understand how to play now. I had watched several other videos and this is by far the easiest to comprehend! You are a great teacher!
Looking forward to giving this one a go at the convention I'm attending this weekend. Really clear and concise teach and playthrough as always - thanks!
Sadly, this is exactly why I don't watch simple tutorial videos (which are nothing more than much better produced "Rahdo" videos). I understand the extra time and stress full playthroughs add to you and it is ultimately free content. I just need to see playthroughs to their end (sorry). Thank you for your hard work and dedication though. It is not lost. Thank you. Much love from France.
I understand there is an audience who really wants the full playthroughs I do do try to make them when it makes sense, but these days it doesn't always work with my schedule.
Very helpful. I just got my game delivered to my house but when my wife and I tried reading through the rules and guide, it was kind of overwhelming. Your video made it easier to follow. The game itself isn't that difficult to play but it was a bit overwhelming at first.
Nice video as usual. This game has beautiful artwork. One rules correction is that when seeding the trail with the weather tokens at the start of a season, you skip the first space, and start seeding on the second space. Again, great job! Cheers!
I did miss this in the rules, I read it too quickly and thought it meant you skip the trail head, not the first spot on the trail. I added a note about this to a pinned comment and the Klingon subtitles, thanks.
Another great tutorial video! The last one I had watched was Great Western Trail (which I still have to play and will probably have to watch your tutorial again before I play). But I'm hoping to get Parks to the table tomorrow. Cheers!
Thanks so much! We always have a game night with our friends on New Year's Eve, and I was hoping to play this. I bought it for our family for Christmas with New Year's in mind. My hiking partner is the one we play games with - I think this is perfect for us to play together. And with your tutorial, I'm ready to go tomorrow! Happy New Year!
Hey Jon, great job!! Just got this game and am looking forward to playing it with my wife 😊 I think you may have forgotten to extinguish your campfire around 40 min in, you visited a trail tile that already had the green hiker.
Hello, a great video again, I am not sure but @48:45 when the player get a forest from the cantine, does he get a water because of the season? of is it only for forest token you get from trail cards?
I actually tried hard to get it UNDER 1 hour, I squeezed a couple segments to get it down to 59:58 in Final Cut Pro because I figured that'd look shorter than crossing the 1 hour mark. For some reason TH-cam ended up rounding up by 2 seconds anyway >.
I did miss this in the rules, I read it too quickly and thought it meant you skip the trail head, not the first spot on the trail. I added a note about this to a pinned comment and the Klingon subtitles, thanks.
@51:10 you say that a player locked in the camera, but another player could still jump to the river, correct? Then they could spend water to activate the vista and gain the camera?
Unfortunately I forgot to explain the specifics of that interaction. The camera is only moved when a hiker visits the vista, and the river just copies the action while not technically "visiting" the location. So the river can have a player take a canteen or a photo but they won't take the camera.
I do have one question that I had from the beginning: What stops me from going to the trail end immediately if I'm the first player? I would even get the First hiker bonus, so that I would start the next season again. I can imagine it can be a real quick game if you just visit one site with your other hiker to get a resource each season and visit one park in the last season.
I suppose you would simply get far less things done if you jumped that far ahead, and that strategic consideration is what is potentially stopping you.
I filmed this with a friend's copy from what was I think the first kickstarter campaign. Sounds like they may have changed somethings in later printings.
@@JonGetsGames I see. Thank you for your reply. I suppose that the elimination of text makes for reduced costs for international editions where only the rulebook needs translation.
@@JonGetsGames I also bought my copy retail. I just saw another video with the trail tiles named. My gear cards don't list a name, but the resources you gain instead ("when visiting the [mountain resource symbol]") Maybe because I have version 1.1? In any case, weird.
Very well done! Enjoyed it and actually feel like I can teach this game now. Not something that most video instructions or playthroughs actually accomplish.
Having watched now, I have to say that there are several rules I really don't like. The forcing a player to go to the end is ridiculously punitive, but also hugely open to abuse, since two players can conspire to get maximal resources at the expense of a third or fourth when they're already out. Like the blue player should have said to the purple player, "If I go here (Vista) or (Mountain) you can get another token and I can get another token." All in all, this is the first time one of your videos has convinced me not to buy the game... not that that's your fault, but merely because it so clearly points out a flaw in game design.
This isn’t an issue with the game. The issue is the people you are playing with. If those at the table are as you mentioned in your comment, you should find better gaming buddies.
I can understand why the designers did that, so that everyone has about the same number of turns. To your point, two players can try to take advantage with negotiating, but that falls into metagaming with that particular group. You’d have everyone negotiating then for the extra few turns and turns a non confrontational euro into one with teeth. For me, I don’t think all the effort/stress in negotiating for one or two extra turns is worth it. I really don’t think it would actually happen in practice too often either.
I disagree completely. This rule enforces somewhat even turns. If one player mad rushes to the end, he leaves himself exposed to this situation you described where the other players SHOULD exploit to get more resources because the rusher likely got the bonuses from getting the spaces at the end first. At the other end, if a player is lagging too far behind he gets punished as well by not being able to use the latter tiles. I think its a good rule.

Looks really fun
This was SO helpful, thank you!
@ 40:02, you didn't extinguish your campfire for going onto an occupied space.
Good catch, I've added a note about this to the Klingon subtitles and the pinned comment.
I think with the new seasons weather pattern, you start placing the tokens beginning on the 2nd site, not the first.
I did miss this in the rules, I read it too quickly and thought it meant you skip the trail head, not the first spot on the trail. I added a note about this to a pinned comment and the Klingon subtitles, thanks.
I think when seeding the Trak with weather tokens you don’t seed the first tile, but the second one on.
Ahhh. Found your Klingon subtitles!

Small question, can you take a photo anywhere, or just at the specific trail card?
Unfortunately, it's been too long since I played this game to remember the rules enough to answer your question. Sorry about that!

My copy has iconography instead of text on there boards and card backs. Is this because the copy shown here is a review copy?

@@JonGetsGames I see. Thank you for your reply. I suppose that the elimination of text makes for reduced costs for international editions where only the rulebook needs translation.
Maybe already said but the weather pattern skips the first trail tile
44:50 I thought that you'll finally get the item that transforms water into forest tokens but you've wasted this opportunity. Why?
At that point it seemed like we had enough forest tokens to complete our plans anyway, so that extra utility didn't seen necessary.
Great video. Now I’m interested in picking this up. How many advanced tiles come in the game? Just 4 or are there more?
I'm honestly not sure, I borrowed this copy of the game and no longer have it here to check.
My trail tiles don’t have the location names on the bottom (e.g. ocean, mountain) like yours. Was that exclusive to the Kickstarter?
Huh, I'm not sure. I filmed this with a friend's copy, and I believe he bought it at retail instead of backing the KS but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Ha, yeah it is. I guess my bias is showing!

Jon, what are the chances you'll cover new Dominant Species: Marine? :)
