@@KoishiVibin It's a bit more complicated then that. Ballistic performance is determined by several factors. Now a tank can only be so big before it starts running into problems, especially at WWII tech levels. This limited size meant a limited size turret which meant a limited size breech, which had to fit inside the turret. While you could fit a very large 100mm+ bore cannon on to a Sherman turret, the breech length would remain unchanged. Which means cartridge over all length does not change. Which means you go from firing a long skinny cartridge, to a short fat one, relatively speaking. While the short fat cartridge will hold more powder then the long skinny, the ratio of powder to projectile weight becomes skewed against the short-fat. Like a 5.56 versus a 12 gauge, roughly the same OAL, and the 12 gauge has twice the powder of the 5.56, but the projectile weight is several times more with the 12 gauge. Thus, it is much slower. All that said, the invention of APDS (Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot) made this issue irrelevant. The APDS design lets you shoot the same weight projectile (sub caliber projectiles) regardless of bore size. Since a larger bore size will let you fit more powder behind the projectile, larger becomes always better.
@@caseyb1346 what about heat shells, a larger bore means more explosive can be packed behind the copper cone, and muzzle velocity does not matter as much since the shell explosion is triggered on contact and does all the penetration.

I've read a number of articles describing how, in their tank manuals, Firefly TCs were told to stand outside the tank to effectively direct their fire.

*Yarnhub, an third History channel after Simple History and Oversimplified.*
Legend
Yarnhub is my new favorite, replacing Simple History, thanks to the animations
This guy had the magic hands taking out 3 tigers! Insane! It's awesome how you got him to narrate!
with this visualization style and history contents , this is the most underrated channel about history with only 90k subs, believe me you'll be big one day if you keep up this quality story telling.
The animation is good, congrats yarnhub, you have a new subber
A British Tank Hero 👍🙂 A great story. Real heroes are usually reticent and unassuming. They just get the 'job' done.
New 3D Cel Shading style is nice. Now you can have more 3D maneuver animation.
I always love hearing those old-timers talking about the war. They tell their stories with a refreshing humility. They just got on with it, never complained and never asked for, nor expected, any acclaim. True heroes.
Your story's and production are baffling so precise and very inspirational amazing work
Thank you for noting that the 17 pounder was quite a handful when fired. I've read a number of articles describing how, in their tank manuals, Firefly TCs were told to stand outside the tank to effectively direct their fire. This was due to the ridiculous muzzle flash created by their main armament.
What a well done story that tells of one man in battle, merely doing his job. His job that day was to take out Wittmann and two other Tigers- that he survived and received the credit he deserved was a happy ending! (Unless you're a Wittmann fan obviously)
SUBSCRIBED!
There's a reason the Americans turned down the Firefly and went with their own 76mm gun.
theres a reason the Brits put a 17 pounder on a rothmans
The tank animations were AMAZING
keep up the good work Yarnhub
Good job. I learn more about history in this channel alone than all years of school.
You absolutely ROCK for keeping these histories alive..!!! 😉👍
What a great video, YarnHub. The animations, the narration, the origianl audio. Congratulations. You, Simple History and Oversimplified are my favorite history channels in TH-cam.
the quality inproves every video
The tank Animation is Soo cool
Don’t much care for war stories, but a humble man doing his best in such a bloody challenging time needs to be recognized and thanked.
VERY well done video. Thank you for putting effort into your content. It's becoming rare. Looks and sounds great...AND YOU USED WORDS RIGHT!
Thats some high quality animation mate
Very good story as always!
*Thanks Yarnhub*

Thank goodness I see this in recommendation, this video is a lot more interesting and visually great. Good job!
You my friend are improving. I remember your first vids; they were on 2D. Now youre animating tanks. TANKS in 3D. Keep it up. This will totally set this channel apart from other historical channels.
I live in the town he lived in, I've spoken to people who's parents knew him and I think knew him personally. brilliant video, keep it up
The way you start you videos man, makes me feel like I’m watching a movie
Thanks Yarnhub this channel deserves more subscribers

Who Would Win?
Germany's most feared tank commander with 138 Tank kills and most likely has a premium tank from war thunder
Some shoe factory boi
Dang... It's a tough choice
No soldier is invulnerable on a battlefield, it doesn't take away from Wittmann's skill, experience and performance.
This is US propaganda, the germans said he died killed by airplanes
@@nomad8166 shoemaker was British.
I am amazed that you animated the battle it must have taken alot of time very nice work !!
Great video. This put a smile on my face.
10/10 video bro, nicely done!
Great animation!
If the man was left as a tank gunner, he may have become one of the most well known tank gunners of the era
This animations are beautiful, keep up the good job
Wittman: I was the Black baron
The Red Baron:Pathetic
Joe:Pathetic
What a ridiculously stupid comment you made
Oh man, seeing the side armor of that panzer made me click the right side of my screen. God damnit world of tanks.
Like ikr, it almost takes up all my ammo in a normal Sherman in WoTB to kill 1 fucking tiger
WWII generation was the greatest!! Thank you! You saved us ALL
Everyone else said what I wanted.
Just wanted to know where yarnhub cat went, and there he is at 6:56
German Ace:I'm the greatest man alive!
Some random shoemaker:I'm about to end this man's whole career
It`s so sad for me :( why he killed Wittman? ......
Playmobil-Agro Agro because it’s war, duh.
Had there been no war, not only Whitman would be alive, he wouldn’t be able to prove himself as a tank ace.
@@Kombajnistazbizona wehraboo spoted
It was very warm to read Velikie Luki on a board of that firefly , because all town was a mass killing point itself in ww2. It was a revenge literally for thousands killed there.
Joe: "Hey Wittman, Your shoe's untied!"
Wittman: looking down quizzically?!
Joe: Gotcha! 👞💥🔥
LMAO that's funny as
This is my favourite TH-cam channel 👍
Amazing content :)
Wedeh bang , suka juga abang nonton yarnhub
The Germans denied that the event ever took place. The official report stated: it was just a load of old cobblers! Lol
You speak to one. And I haven't known that until now.
going at it hell for leather!
According to nazi newspaper wittman got obliterated by a plane bombardment
Wittman was still riding the heels of "Villerss Bocage" victory where he had completed suprise. This time the Canadiens and British had surprise (the didn't know about each other) . With the British blowing up Wittmans platoon to his right, he never saw the ambush to his left.
The lone surviving Tiger when home and told Panzer Meyer HJ 12SS what happend.. they made a search party to search and bury Wittmans crew remains.. the were clear that he was killed by Shermans, but Goebbels said it was the RAF.
If I had the Money I would without a doubt visit the tank Museum because that sounds kickass.
I like How he just gets to The Action
Please do Micheal Wittman next.
Damn , these animations are great !
