      Thanks Michael!! Dialled is the exact word I should have used for this boat! 🙌 Just made landfall in south Portugal after a 9 day offshore passage and Safar sailed flawlessly !

    I have a boat same age here in Australia, its a Nantucket Island 33, build quality is very high, set for blue water conditions, see lots of similarities with your boat, they really knew good design in those days, for me they are a preference over the newer designs that followed. Nice upgrades to you yacht, well done.

      I’ll definitely do a boat tour video and try show additions that’s I’ve made etc! Check out Ep4 that I’ve just released, you’ll see the Saltram isn’t afraid of some weather.

    Hey, thanks for the vids, I’m enjoying following. Wondering if you’re watching the GGR, the around the world, non stop, solo, no assistance race. The race Sir Robin Knox Johnson won in 1969. One of the entrants is sailing a Saga 36. He’s an Irishman. Digging watching your vids, especially because you actually know how to sail. Thanks!

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really happy you’re enjoying them! I’m following the GGR with great interest, it’s so refreshing to see “your everyday normal” boats racing again. The sailor’s involved are some hardcore people! I’m routing for Pat I must admit.

    • @sunlovesailing
      @sunlovesailing ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sailingsafar Oh cool I’m super stoked to hear/know someone else into the GGR! I’m a GGR junkie, to me it’s the only sailing race that matters, though the OGR is going to be really cool! I don’t know anyone else into it for some reason. Haha, I’m sure you are pulling for Pat. I like Pat, he’s my third. I’m pulling for Kirsten, but I love Elliott too, though he’s doubtful to win, he’s a great dude, with a cool boat.

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sunlovesailing Yep I’m with you here, love the GGR! Also looking forward to OGR and seeing the old swans go at it!
      Have you listened to the offshore sailing and cruising podcast with Paul Trammell his interviews with most of the sailors are great!
      I think Damien probably has the GGR in the bag if his boat holds up. He’s clearly a different breed of sailor with the speed he’s making. Kirsten is definitely a strong contender too! Her boats amazing and she’s a hell of a skipper!

    • @sunlovesailing
      @sunlovesailing ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sailingsafar Yes, seeing the old Swans will be exciting. I actually know Paul Trammell, he’s an old friend of mine. I haven’t heard his podcast though, I’ll dig it up. He’s written a book too.
      You are right about Damien, he is a seriously good sailor! I think he would have it in the bag if his steering gear hasn’t failed. However, as Don said, if he misses the weather system the others get into, it’ll be hard to catch up, and I’ll favor Kirsten. If he does get in the same weather system as the leaders, I believe he could win. As you said, he’s clearly a different bread.
      At our channel, is my email, we’re can keep in touch that way as well. What’s your name, I’m Curtis.

    Great boat and some nice sails. Who did you get to make them? Andy UK

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy, Sails were made by “Sailmakers Of Polruan” who were professional from the offset, full of great advice and substantially cheaper than any of the mainstream companies that quoted. I’ll certainly use them again when when I manage to wear this set out 😅

  • @godangerdad
    @godangerdad ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m not a sailor just a fan.
    At the 2:00 mark I asked “why wouldn’t you sew a Velcro loop on the bag? Velcro the bag to the guard rail so it won’t blow overboard?
    The small sail between the main and stay sail?? Is that what you call a Yankee sail?? I like it. Safe sailing.

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s not a bad idea! Normally I “Hank on” the Staysail before I even depart(The staysail is the smaller sail) so the bag just gets put down below straight away, but when it’s getting rough at sea, any additions that make life easier and keep your hands free is welcome on this boat. Glad you’re enjoying enjoying the videos 🙌

      My sails were built by Hans from Sailmakers of Polruan, he’s based in Cornwall but was happy to travel and measure up for an accurate fit.
      I’ve been extremely pleased with my set of sails and he was very competitive on price as well.
