Love the backstory of this car. Didn’t know anything about your dad, but I appreciate your channel even more because of it! My first car was a ‘67 Chevy Impala 4 door with. 283 and a power glide! After I blew up the transmission doing burnouts I put in a turbo 350 I got out of my moms ‘69 Impala that her 350 broke in. I bought that car for 70 bucks and had to pawn my Star Wars action figures at a pawn shop and sold my 38 special co2 pellet pistol to come up with a whopping $50! I had to borrow 20 from my dad to buy the car! That was in 1982 when I was on 7th grade! Oh the memories.🥹🥹🤗

Please make sure you install a SERIOUS "theft prevention system" so that you do not receive a dreaded call that the car was stolen form some parking lot in the city...Beautiful machine.

Instead of a 4l60, i would build up a 700R4. Basically the same trans with 1 major difference. The 4L60 requires a computer, the 700R4 does not.
Like you, my dad was responsible for my love of cars. It does my heart good to see that you have your dads old car and are taking steps to actually enjoy the car again.

I grew up with a car almost the same as that. 67 Malibu. Blue with a black vinyl top. Started with the same drive line as yours. Ended up with a 4 bolt main sbc 350 and turbo 350 trans. Funny part was I live in New England and the car was originally purchased as a winter car for my Mom when she drove a then new silver anniversary 78 Vette. Great memories for sure. Great to see you keeping a family car in the family. Cheers

If you are wanting to put an overdrive transmission in the Chevelle, even though the 4L60E is free, it needs to have a computer for it to function and while it won’t be free, I would recommend installing a 700R4 in it as a it doesn’t require a computer and is plenty strong.

When I moved to Vegas in 85 my mother inlaw had 2 67 Malibus she bought new in Denver. One Green like yours and one Blue. They sat outside over by Liberaces old house. One had 9k the other 12k. I got both after she passed. The interiors were dust but they ran like a 283 should. Put a 4bbl and a small cam in one and with 276s it would run @ 90 mph all day. Fun cars. Still have my 67 wagon original 4 speed A/C 327 and the trailer tow package. And of course my Mopars.

I applaud you for how your going to do it, a mostly original car is more of a good historical piece for people who only get to see pictures of the original ones and the disc brakes and the transmission upgrade would be good but leave the rest of it as you said original car and realistic. Not a hoopy thing that looks like nothing but a restomod.

I love this project. I learned to drive in a 67 Pontiac sedan 283, 2spd so I can totally relate to the thrilling driving experience of that power train. 99mph top speed (maybe)....ask me how I know. What I can't relate to is the lack of rust. In the north east that car would be a rust red stain in the dirt. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Your dad burned the candle at both ends but he seems to have done a good job raising you. Cheers to his memory.

Pretty cool to have your Dad's old car, I restored a truck that my Dad bought new and taught me how to drive in. Gotta like the use of Gimme Some Lovin' in the background while running Patina around the track. That was always the song to get me fired up when I ran a circle track car. And that boat race looks like a riot.

We had a Gold A/C 8 track Malibu like that in our family. I loved that car more than life itself. I always thought if I was good and studied hard they would give me the car. Nobody ever gave me anything. The few cars I owned I busted my ass for them. They were never like that Malibu. Don't let that car go again. It's too precious.

Chris this is a great thing you're doing. I bought my brother in laws first car from him three years ago. It's a 66 Malibu with the 283 and 2 speed power glide but no ac. It has bucket seats and a console. Maroon with a new black vinyl top. He's a high school teacher who had two kids in college at the same time. When he stuck the for sale sign 8n the window I bought it right away. I put a new trunk pan in it the new top and paint. He's going to retire in two years and this is his retirement present from me. He has done so much for me and my family it's the least I can do. Especially since paint and body are my thing. I'm sure your sister is going to be blown away.

Hey Chris,. I've been hanging onto a car I got at 15 & 35 yrs later I still got it even though it's been wrecked and slowly rebuilding it for the past 32 or so years.
Plan to keep it as a top secret upcoming channel reveal in the future as I leave Easter eggs in many of my vids & continue to tease & disguise what the car actually is.

I agree with your plans for this car. It would be wrong to do too many changes/upgrades on this vehicle. The disc brake conversion and OD transmission make sense from a safety and roadworthy position. It would be great to fix all the maintenance and neglect issues. I would also repair the driver seat cover and put in a new dash pad. You could leave the paint as is for now. After the car is back together I would recommend driving it often and making new memories.

Thank you Chris for the window into your rich life. I wondered how you got your start into racing, now I know it was because of your Dad. Fixing up the Chevelle for your sister is a wonderful gesture, kinda wish I had a sibling to do that for. The boat races were a hoot! I would be inclined to replace the glide and if a Quadrajet with a cast iron manifold could be located, it would look like a factory option ! My brother in-law has a 61 Vette with the 283 four barrel and a glide. Its a dog till 40 mph but fun after !

3000 is about right, I know my mom had a couple she bought and they were a lot of money back then. Considering how you could get a good house for between 3 to six times that. We got our house for 8000 still have it 4 bedroom 1.5 bath kitchen, dining room, living room, tv room full basement and attic and 2 stall garage 26×36. We built the garage in 1982 for 12g and the old man was so proud of it because it was the first one on the block that had a cement floor and a opener for the door. 8'×16' door and the original Sears opener is still working and is 3.5 hp. motor. Sounds like a blast door opening and closing. We used to change those drive trains in 90 minutes in and out and down the road.

Very cool 67 and story to go with it! I would definitely ditch the powerglide , but a 4l60 needs a stand alone harness to run it and parts can add up. I guess it just depends on your budget and your connections for parts.

13:42 even though this 283 aint no power house, HA! my pops had a 61 283 impala convertible with a turboglide, he had to sell it as he was working overseas and the guy he sold it to got 5 tickets in the first month with it lol like the 283 is the motor that MADE chevy's name in the performance department, 4 barrel carb it, give it a good tune and that thing will give anything in your fleet a good run for its money.
as anything with any derivative of the 263, 283 and 327 motor in it, aint no carrucha, if it said 350 on the side that's different, that's the motor GM put in to cheap out on performance when they went mass production in 68' and then if you wanted a good car you went to olds and buick, and eventually pontiac when the firebird came into its own in the late 70's as the car that embarrased the corvette with how much better it was
hence why they sandbagged it with as many crappy non pontiac 400 motors as possible, as they always did love that fiberglass speedboat at GM at the cost of everything else.

It would be like a copy of the 66 220 hp 283 , 2004R transmission ( maybe drop the rear end gear to a 3:73/3:50), 67/68 Chevelle four piston disc brakes, (or 70's chevelle disc brakes), dual exhaust all optional on 67 Chevelles. Still maintain the stock look and have some nice improvements for not much money. Most important........ keep the stock look thing going. Hell you already have the disc brake wheels. That's half the problem solved!! lols

That 4L60 will make it a much more enjoyable car to drive. A power glide isn’t old technology, it ancient. The 3.08 first gear will make the old 283 seem peppy.

He went through drugs, divorce and the car is still around, he made it out better than I did. I f”ed off everything and everyone I had while I was on that road. I messed off a truck of my dads, I had completely restored it. I loved it but I needed more drugs. I miss it and kick my own ass every single day for the trucks, guns, tools I f’ed off on dope. The wife, don’t miss her , once I finally got my act together 15 years ago. I upgraded in that department.

Miss the days of no computers and so many wires you can wire your house. Two hours taking your time for a motor swap compared to today and their endless hours of work.

Here we go again... TH-cam. Commercial interruption one minute and eight seconds into video. Thankfully Chris has the best videos on TH-cam and I won't let them ruine the experience.
