- Bought in Tabanan, Bali in 1998. Gong Gede is a rare form of ceremonial gamelan typically employed in court processions and so on, predating the now-popular 'keybar' style

Gong Gde was exclusively Temple & ceremonial music, rarely if ever played at the courts. Thank you for the upload.

I love the musical transition from haunting West Java, to mystical Central Java, and finally to frantic ecstatic East Java and Bali
Definitely reflects their history and regional dynamics (anarchic rebellious East Java, courtly conservative Central Java, and aloof West Java).

I love the contrast between gamelans of slow, hypnotic Java and fast dazzling Bali.
That is exactly what i love in this music too ! The dynamics are very powerfull ^^
And it speaks beautifully of the different temperaments of Javanese and Balinese people, I think.
Indonesia is heaven on earth if it didnt exist we would all be bored. Even if you never been bali and indonesia fascinates and influences you. Beautiful

This music (percussion) it's traditional temple ceremonies, with Hinduisme religion, this mistic music brought them on the way of the Heaven. Really so greatest percussion and feeling so deeply. Loves Bali
Iggy Pop turned me on to this music 20 years ago. Absolutely unique on earth. The drummer leads the ensemble. The pitch scale is NOT western 12 tone.
Thanks for saving this majestic creation of our ancestor for the future as we balinese are begin to extinct, invade by our neighbor island.

The gamelan is really a set of instruments, like xylophones and gongs, they are very rare, I only know of one of the most complete sets in the US and that is in Portland.
