1.) Let the number of cars be C and the number of motorcycles be M.
2.) The total number of vehicles is given by C+M=54
3.) Each cars has 4 wheels, so the total number of wheels for cars is 4C.
4.) Each motorcycles has 2 wheels, so the total number of wheels for motorcycles is 2M.
5.) The total number of wheels is given by 4C + 2M = 144
6.) Solve the system of equations:
Equation 1: C + M = 54
Equation 2: 4C + 2M = 144
7.) Multiply Equation 1 by 4 to eliminate C when subtracted from Equation 2:
4(C + M) = 4 × 54
4C + 4M = 216
8.) Subtract Equation 1 from Equation 2:
(4C + 2M) - (4C + 4M) = 144 - 216
4C + 2M - 4C - 4M = -72
-2M = - 72
9.) Solve for M (the number of motorcycles):
M = -72 ÷ -2 = 36
10.) There are 36 motorcycles in the parking lot.
So, the correct answer is option D. 36

Correct me if I'm wrong ma'am gusto ko pong matutu dahil nag review Ako for afpsat exam
